A voiced Protagonist?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 9:28 am

So a popular rumour seems to suggest that our Vault Dweller will have a voice of their own with which to converse with the denizens of the Wasteland, however given what I know about the Bethesda Fallout/Elder Scrolls fanbase I would have thought that such a thing would not be so welcome given their appreciation of the power of imagination and blank slate characters that allow them to fill in the gaps.

Honestly curious, is a voiced protagonist something you would want?

There are also rumours that you wont be able to choose your character's gender but such rumours seem a little far fetched even if the source has been right about most things so far.

Whether the main character is voiced or not is irrelevant to me and won't disrupt my playing.

Trailer has the symbolized PC say a three word line at the end of the trailer, everyone loses their minds.

Unless the female PC happens to be voiced by Jennifer Hale, it's a plague. PLAGUE.

The Last Dragonborn in the Skyrim trailer said three words and everyone thought it was cool as hell.

Still don't see it happening.

The dog featured heavily in the trailer, so I still think what we saw was just how we can command the dog to do stuff without having to start a conversation with him with some dialogue fluff for style, a-la a dragon shout just for the puppy.

If I'm wrong on the 14 and there's a voiced mc, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.

Just right now, I don't see it happening.

That was a shout. Not the same.

Also, that shout is in the game. Therefore that was 100% representative of the actual game.

I don't mind my PC saying "Fus Roh Dah". I don't want my PC saying "let's go pal". Ever. Especially not to dogs. To me, dogs are the enemy.

Personally I like it, gives more life to the protagonist, but I do hope there is the option to turn it off, for the sake of those not so fond of the idea.

I don't see why this has so many people upset. It's not any more limiting than full-sentence dialogue choices, which Fallout 3, New Vegas and Skyrim all had.

That shout sounded a lot cooler than the one in the actual game though.

But anyways, I don't mind the voice as long as the VA is good and he doesn't say stupid things.

What if the main character also speaks in the game? That would mean what we see in the trailer is a 100% representative of the actual game. So I don't get what was the overall point of that sentence but okay.

I don't mind either way, but if it's voiced then I'd better have many voices to choose from.

Unlikely because of the amount of dialogue in the game.

That this is why people are flipping their [censored].

Like I said in my edit, a lot of us don't want our characters talking like that, and the trailer seems to point to our characters doing just that. Esoteric shouts in draconic is something else entirely.

And so it was, that the Last Dragonborn entered the Rift, finally escaping the clutches of Hermaeus Mora, into another world. A darker world. A world of Jumpsuits...Another life. A life of jumpsuits. And guns. And mutants.

All this can be easily solved by making it an optional feature. I hope they don't make the mistake of forcing this feature. I'm fine with it myself but, like you said, a lot of people are not.

I don't like half baked features (such as greetings with voice and rest of dialogue with text a la Morrowind). Either full voiced character or a completely mute character (no battle grunts either). I [censored] hate aberrations like beast races shouting with human voices.

Because they're worried about an establish personality. We want to make up our own personality for 111 and that includes the way we imagine our character to talk. If 111 talks like 'Hey, I'm hopeful and endearing!' then those who planned to have 111 sound differently than this will be in for a nasty shock. For instance, my FO3/NV character was sarcastic/world-weary. She would not say, "Let's go, pal" to the dog. She'd say, "All right, time to head home. Keep an eye out for any Raiders, 'K?"

That poll is utter stupid and meaningless. Why not create a choice for optional voice-over? Like the last thread

If the protagonist has a voice it aint gonna be optional, only fitting the poll reflects that.

That's it, I've inspired my first character. The Dragonborn escaped Apocrypha, sending his true soul amongst the thousands within him, trapping it within the comatose body of the Vault 111 dweller.
