Not just mute, but give the actual lines of the dialogue options, not only some bloody keywords.
I voted, "Yes," but it's not an issue with me. When I play Bethesda's games I have all voices turned off and subtitles turned on.
i couldn't care less, and i guess it would make some people quit whining about it. Although it looks like its supposed to be more cinematic so i would assume it would look very strange to see your character talking and no sound coming from their mouths
It's not an issue for me. It's something that Bethesda had to eventually do.
That being said, I hope they take this opportunity to write a better story than Skyrim had. If we have to sacrifice a silent protagonist for better writing, I'll take it.
I don't really mind the "bullet points" in the dialog options - I've been playing Witcher 3 and that's how that game does dialog. It really hasn't bothered me much.
I'm kind of agnostic on the voiced PC so far, but if we're going to spend the entire game listening to all the huffing and puffing and grunting the E3 demo showed the PC doing when he climbed out of the vault, that's going to get really annoying really quick.
Maybe the huffing and puffing will be reduced if our character improves in fitness?
I couldn't vote. Generally I prefer an unvoiced main character--and to see full text before choosing a conversation option--but would want to see how the intended system plays before muting or installing a mod to change the dialogue system.
A third person protagonist is an entirely different design perspective. A toggle would help, but not solve the problem.
I think with this change, open world RPGs are a thing of the past for me. If I'm forced to play someone else's character, I want a tight, story-focused game. And I'm not listening to that [censored] voice for hundreds of hours. It's bad enough that "I should go" is a Shepard meme... with the sheer scope of what a Bethesda game is supposed to be, the repetition is going to be mind-numbing.
I haven't voted yet and I'm not sure how I feel about a voiced player but I'm open to giving it a chance. I really hope I end up liking it and the female voice is hitting the emotions I'm feeling.
For what it's worth, they said you can switch to first person view.
I often play with sound off, so I'll be reading subtitles/text anyway.
You were allways limited... You only could choice between given options. The only difference is that now the options are voiced...
I'd prefer to have a silent protagonist, however, at this point we get what we get and we don't throw a fit. Just being practical.
edit: I didn't vote because I need more info.
This, it depend a lot of how it sounds.
I'm honestly more concerned about the new dialogue system.
I actually listened to the female's voice and it's actually pretty similar to what I imagine my FO3/NV character's voice.
Still going to use an alternate start.
I actually prefer a voiced protagonist. I never liked playing a mute in the previous games. It kept me from getting emotionally invested in the character because i would never hear from them. After a while i'd even forget what they looked like. I didnt see them as a character in a story, more like a floating head i was pushing around in the wasteland.
I was more troubled in that Todd said there was only one voice actor for the male and one for the female, so apparently we don't even get to choose the type of voice we want ... and if we don't like the voice, or it doesn't fit our role-play, we're just screwed.
Would love the voice to be off.
I think this, along with a mass-effect style of conversation will steer up some people. cus HURR DURR WE DON WAN CHANGE
but whatevs, i quite like how Mass Effect brought some life into otherwise boring conversations. I'm glad Fallout 4 is taking the same route
I dont really care if they do our not. But seriously this is like complaining about chris pratt's performance in Jurassic world before even seeing the movie. Come on people give the voice actors a chance.
The part i'm skeptic about however is we are still forced to play in a certain age group anyway I feel like between the voice and the story we are still forced to play someone who is in their late 20s early 30s. Well as opposed to playing a 19 year old fresh out the vault.
I'm sure the VA's they have are great, but I don't always play the same character.
People will vote no for an option?
I don't play as my character. They are not an extension of myself nor do I live vicariously through them. They are their own entity with their own voice.
If that voice is projected through the game, then so be it. It's not a real negative for me.
I think the male protagonist being an android theory has been proven given the guy's performance in the demo.

It's incredible that the actual robot has more personality in its voice.
