Voiced PC?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 8:56 pm

I would love to hear my character... I hate mute characters. I know they would need to hire 20 actors (or less) for the job for every gender of every race but it would be so worth it. Mass Effect did it great imho... although they don't have 10 races :D .
If they don't do it at least they have an excuse.. the character will be too powerful to speak! And will probably communicate telepathically with the quest givers and other people.. (sarcasm at it's finest :P ).

I expect them to (at least) do a voice over for those Dragon Shouts. I hope those aren't some high frequency shouts that no one can hear :D. (I know they won't be! :P)

P.S.

If there's a topic for this stuff already or I made a horrible, huge mistake, lock this one and forget me... me and my shame :( ...

Oh no... I like the PC being mute. Better for roleplaying, I think.

[Edit] I say mute, but I expect there to be voice work for when the PC gets hit and the dragon shouts (although I don't think they will sound too "human"), I just wouldn't like anything more than that.

I would like to have a voice. One that I can choose at the beginning from many.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Mass Effect 2! However, I did not really enjoy having a voiced PC. I did not like the voice actress. She sounded too cold for my type of character, lol. Even when she's nice, she sounds like a mean person, especially when she sarcastically jokes to Garrus about his "ugly" face.

I like RPG's because I like to role-play a certain character who has a certain personality and this would also include voice. I may imagine that my female Nord is kind of soft-spoken, even if she's physical. I would not like it if all of a sudden, she had a harsh, booming voice that makes me think, "Who is this person? She's not what I imagined..."

I don't mind the Dragon Shouts being voiced, since that is the point of Dragon Shouts.

Anymore than that, though, is not something I would particularly want. And, it's more money to pay voice actors. I want them to save that money to work on better graphics and gamplay and create a richer world. =)

EDIT: IF there is voice acting, I would like to have an option, like many MMO's (and even fighting games like Soul Calibur had this!), to adjust the tone of my voice. =D

Heck I don't like voiced dialogues in general, so no, I definitely don't want the PC to be voiced. Considering Beth's track record, the PC won't be voiced. :)

No-oooo! Fortunately, it won't happen in Skyrim.

It'd bad enough listening to the NPCs.

I'd rather remain silent. I mean, I expect the shouts will be voiced, and I don't have a problem with that. But after I read the dialogue options and select one, I don't need it to be read back to me in a voice that I don't recognise, and which possibly sounds the same as the person I happen to be talking to... even if that did happen, I'd skip it every time anyway.

While I liked it in Mass Effect (because you were already playing a certain character), I would never want it in an Elder Scrolls game. Besides, one must remember that in ME, they only needed to record all the different dialogue options twice (male & female), while in Skyrim they'd need to record them 20 times! Would you imagine how much disc space and the developer's time and money it would take?

Just keep the dragon shouts and various grunts when fighting/hurt.

Dragon Age: Origins maybe? :D

I really liked the option to choose the voice for your character even if you were silent during conversations... :\

I have to take issue with this. IMO the performance by the femshep voice actress is the best performance by a voice actor in any game I have ever played. Jennifer Hale delivers a brilliant, engaging and nuanced performance, exponentially better than the male sheperd actor.

I can''t really say I feel strongly one way or the other. If they did give the player a voice, I think they should implement it the same way that Neverwinter Nights 2 did: You can choose from 15-20 or so different voices at the start of the game, but the character doesn't say everything except battle cries and such. Include an option to pick no voice at all. Everyone's happy. There's no way the player would be fully voiced though - think of all the questions you ask NPC''s over the course of the game. In regards to the "dragon shouts" or Way of the Voice use, it almost begs for a powerful voice to do it justice.

I have to admit I would much prefer non voiced characters. I don't even like the idea of the dragon shouts actually being shouted if I'm honest. I guess we'll have to see how it plays out.

Please, no! It's not just a male and female voice for each race. It would be very jarring if your rogue spoke like a crusader and vice versa. ME2 and DA2 have relatively pre-defined PCs. TES is much more open. Voiced PCs would be intrusive, an annoyance every time "your" character spoke with a stranger's voice..

I've got to agree. Besides there are mods for this that adds voiced comments to your actions in Oblivion - might just be something similar for Skyrim if that's your thing.

I'd say NO. I prefer much more NPC dialogues and choices rather than spending disk space and resources on voiced PC's.

Having the pc use these powerful shouts while silent would be bizarre. How else could they pull off these powerful shouts that bring with them might power other than convincing voice work?
