[WIPZ][RELZ] VOILA - Voices Of Imperial Legion Amalgamated

Post » Tue Nov 02, 2010 10:14 pm

New version is released!

Version 0.7 features:
  • Squad (company) system for both existing and new Imperial Legion soldiers:
+ Battlemage, heal injured squad members
+ Captain, all squads are led by a "captain" or squad leader; squad with over three members replace its captain whenever the captain dies
+ Rest break, squads do not patrol the roads at all hours; at certain hours squads visited nearby taverns.
  • Revamped A.I routines for all original Imperial Legion riders, with some riders incorporated into existing patrol squads while others formed entirely new squad exclusively composed of riders (cavalry)
  • Over a dozen new Imperial Legion soldiers of various races patrolling the streets of Cyrodiil province
  • Several new Imperial Legion foresters with dogs companion
  • Viera Lerus (Bravil Guard Captain) now becomes a proper guard and can apprehend law-breakers

It shall be available at TES Alliance soon, at the moment you can download the latest version at http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=5771.

wow! is that the beginning of an "Imperial Legion Rewamped" mod?

I like it! ^^

BTW, it would be cool to add voices as if the player was also a member of the Legion, or even a superior. I'm sick of playing mods that adds Legion-related quests where other Legion soldiers doesn't address to you properly, not even as you were another soldier (imagine my char then, who's an Officer...).

Is it just me or does Planet Elder Scrolls have some weird errors with the website's appearance? In any case VOILA is now available at TES Alliance and I've uploaded it to MediaFire too just in case.

Well, I didn't say that ;)

I shall give that some thought. But for now, I need to refocus to my http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1015102.

This mod looks great, finally someone put the ODDC tool to good use. Thanks!
One suggestion about the unique guard captains (Viera Lerus, Ulrich Leland, Burd). These people aren't guard class in vanilla, not only because their race prevents them from playing arrest dialogue (though Viera is Imperial and could actually arrest you if she were a guard), but because they take part in the Battle for Bruma quest (Ulrich does take part if you didn't send him to jail before the quest). I think this was done to prevent possible arrests while the battle was taking place. So my idea would be, if the Battle for Bruma quest is running, swap their class back to the original, and after the battle change them back to guards with the SetClass command.

Edit: wait, after seeing the changelog, did you already do this?

Lol, last night while my guy was taking a leisurely ride through the forest to Skingrad, three Legion riders galloped past me one after another, heading toward the IC in a whole lot of hurry... It was such a kick to see them all working together ... but I really hope it wasn't tavern time! :biglaugh:

I have noticed, though, two fights between Legion guards and Tamriel Travelers--which really shouldn't happen ... could be just the result of an accidental hit during an earlier battle, but I didn't see any other bodies, so it may well be a faction thing. I've given CorePC a heads up on the possibility, and I'll mention it here too--both mods are too good to have to choose one or the other.

Yes, I added some script parameters to revert Burd and Viera Lerus back to Knight class when the Defense of Bruma and Battle of Bruma quest are active. I didn't remember to add it to Ulrich Leland, though  But he is a corrupt guard, therefore he might still be looking for opportunity to fine people in battle. :P

I'm glad you like it!

The issue with Tamriel Travelers sometimes occurred to me too without VOILA activated, and I didn't modify the Faction stats of both either. It could be one of Oblivion's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8hetpJxXSw with Radiant AI. But I'll see what can be done about it.

Okay, thanks for checking... in my game I haven't seen much infighting going on between them. But hey, I'm guessing the Legion feels it's time to crack down on their wearing 'unusually flamboyant' purple clothing on occasion...  :hehe:

Did anyone find any strange behaviors with the Imperial Legion soldiers and riders?* Or any other oddities?

On other note, I've uploaded the plugin to ModDB.

Not so much... although they remain unusually prejudiced against Travellers and their pets. Not saying it's your mod, but I've used TT (alongside Reneers too) for a long time, and it is just rather startling to suddenly start coming across dead Travellers and/or guars alongside the road in almost every savegame profile I've run so far. I'm quite fond of my Travellers (forget trading, my youngsters count on them for backup!)... :biglaugh: But then again I am using TT 139b--there has been an update since (that I guess I missed) that addresses this issue, but its friendly refactioning seems confined to SI ... no offense to Bethesda, but I just don't care for SI and don't go there much, so I may have felt it wasn't critical to update.

Anyway, I can live with that for now ... everything else seems to be working great. Almost like somebody gave the Imperial Legion a pep talk... ** :twirl: I've yet to take a trip down the back road to Leyawiin, though ... always a war zone ... best spot to meet up with Imperial rangers, and maybe a few more of your new soldiers I would guess. But I'll take someone with a few levels on him, just in case.

**What??? Either those dirty rotten Travellers are dealing under the table again, or there's free donuts at the Inn of Ill Omen:

those screenshots look great. how did you get colors so bright? it looks like Ambient Dungeons when it was still bugged and would apply high saturation to forests instead of to ayleid ruins

HDR + it was one of the rare very bright clear days in All Natural ... while most of my older guys are bogged down in mud or snow, this little 'lady' is still young enough to enjoy the summer. :shifty:

I've noticed the mod has been blocked from view on Nexus.
Still available from ModDB, though.

Any news or progress? Since it's version 0.7 I assume it's not quite finished?
Anyway, I love the new guard lines and I look forward to see guards doing more than just riding back and forth.

Busy, busy, busy... :read:
I don't remember the exact details with TESNexus, but I think something's gone weird with the account there after TESNexus have gone through several updates, and the access to files were "blocked" prior to new updates...(Might come back to TESNexus once things become proper, for the moment I'll stick with TESA and ModDB)

By the way, yes you're right, VOILA is currently not finished. I'm still curious though whether anyone often stumble upon any phenomena (like daemondarque experienced), such as captain or a soldier separated from the main group, or seemingly lonely soldier patrolling alone (I recall there is one rider that I missed), or whether the latest UOP updates conflicted. I haven't tested it thoroughly, and I'd like to squash any bugs before adding new features (I'm thinking of adding a new topic that allow you to ask for Imperial Legion help during the main quest, but that's just a thought).

Amidst the inconsistency of my schedules, I tinkered a bit with the ignorant legionnaires.

It annoyed me that the Imperial Legion soldiers often asked "How may I help you?", "How can I assist you?", etc, pretending that they actually can want to help the player. The fact is even though you are a famous knight, a Hero of Kvatch, or have other famous titles on your character name, you cannot tell and ask for their help if some doomsday event is happening in Tamriel. At most -without any modifications- they will only tell you about Gray Fox, Captain Lex, and rumors you already know about. So I thought what if the Imperial Legion soldiers actually do...

Just popping in to say that I really love this mod. It's really cool to see the patrols charging off the road to engage somebody/thing that I don't even know is there... and if there's an Oblivion gate near the road, they're always in there fighting before I get there. I've lost count of the times I've passed a patrol, and then had to run back toward them with an enemy hot on my tail. There was this one time when I saw a large cluster of torches ahead on the road at night, and it turned into a group of about 20 Reavers... Oh, and I wonder if they get free food and beer at the inns ... because they sure deserve it.

BTW, I haven't been seeing nearly as many Travellers dead at the hands of the Legion, so I think that was probably caused by a rash of accidental hit(s) in battle. They do still end up dead on occasion, of course--they're tough, but being a Traveller in FCOM is a hazardous occupation.

This mod looks interesting, I'm looking forward the feature that allow the legion to assist you, they are quite ignorant as it is.

There is mention that you can also get it from http://www.moddb.com/mods/voila-voices-of-imperial-legion-amalgamated, which I recommend (no need to register and no hassle), the site existed from good ol' days when I still experiment with Starcraft, ah, the memories...

Just loaded this up and it looks interesting! Just passed a mini-army of legion soldiers :) Although I also passed one guy all by his lonesome with no horse either. I suspect it's just taking a bit of time to cycle through - I installed it on an existing game. Oh, and by the way, the horses are all properly armored too - I have a mod that puts the DLC armor on Imperial Legion horses and that's working fine too.
