Volcanic Tundra

Post » Mon Sep 27, 2010 1:22 am

Did anybody see on the map from the Behind the Scenes of Skyrim video that near the border of Skyrim/Morrowind there is a "Volcanic Tundra"? I think this territory will have a sort of glow if there are openings with lava surrounded by snow. This will look cool and maybe be a fun place to explore. What do you think?

I saw that too, but I wasn't sure if I read it right because it was a little blurry when i paused. No one else was talking about it at the time and I was too lazy to start a thread like this :P It sounds really cool, hopefully there will be at least one awesome unique snow-cano dungeon

Hmm lava rivers and magma chambers.... Lava bombs would be crazy if you reached a certain proximity in the area.

Judging from info & pics on google it could simply give the reason why it is a tundra (a volcanic layer preventing trees from growing, only grass and shrubs.)

well then it should just be "tundra", right?

I would expect geysers and magma pools with steam from the ground.

What exactly is a tundra?

wikipedia said:

In physical geography, tundra is a biome where the tree growth is hindered by low temperatures and short growing seasons.

Tundra would make for great hunting on horseback, stalking large herds of animals if that were possible to implement. I would imagine stuff like elk, bison, and the mammoths around there.

Being near lots of small lakes, perhaps the tundra could look like this

Not necessarily, the map clearly shows forested regions.

Isn't the middle made up of tundra ad well? So the middle and the northeast are all tundra?

Here's what the volcanic tundra will look like...adding to an glow-like visual. (Even though its high up, you get the picture, right?)

I belive this area will have some farms. I you read the book series Begger Thief warrior king, they talk about some farming that is done by volcanoes.

Perhaps it's a bit premature to say anything at this time, but so far it does seem that they've learnt their lesson from Oblivion RE: the lack of variety.

I meant 'premature' as in we haven't seen enough screenshots to tell whether it does actually have that much variety.

oh i get you now...based on its idea this is what we think it will look like though...and remember Morrowind as being made up of volcanic terrain
