Vote for Vaults in Skyrim.

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 9:26 pm

For those who dont know what the vaults were like from Morrowind, do a little homework on google and see some of the amazing loot they EACH contained. There were multiple vaults, and each one was pretty darn hard to get into, especially for a low level character.

The question is would you like to see this, or something similar come back for Skryim. For whatever reason, these style vaults were not in Oblivion, and there werent really many areas like these vaults in Oblivion either.

Whats your thoughts?

Yeah, looting those vaults are some of my fondest memories of Morrowind. The fact that I discovered them about thirty hours into my game time was brilliant because it just served as a reminder of how many little things were under the surface of the game, and really made me feel as though I was part of a world.

Something like this is Skyrim would be wonderful. The dungeon-dwelling dead shouldn't be the only ones guarding huge hoards of treasure.

On a side note, ordinators were completely underwhelming. Why would I care about them?

I think having vaults would be great; they would be the ultimate heist for every thief. However, the vaults in Morrowind weren't very hard to loot at low levels due to the Amulet of Shadows. If there are vaults in Skyrim, they should be more complicated IMO.

I do miss the Ordinators from Morrowind, they were my favourite group of people in Morrowind (when I'm playing as a Temple guy, which happens to be my favourite faction in Morrowind) but I doubt they will be returning in Skyrim. Indoril was always my favourite Dunmer Great House, so if even one set of Indoril Armour made it into Skyrim, I would definitely create a Dunmer character at some time.

lol. Its funny because I discovered them the same way, long into the game. They were hidden gems that I stumbled upon, and if I remember correctly had MANY master and expert locked doors and containers.

As to the Ordinators....I dont know. Personally they are something I always remembered about Morrowind also. Their armor was cool looking, and they would kick your ass if you didnt know what you were doing. I like the idea of a select group of highly trained guards that will beat you up if your not skilled highly enough.

I think there should be banks with vaults. each city would have it's own bank and it's own treasure. some cities' vaults should be really hard to break into without being seen, with traps around every corner, and a 24 hour watch.

My character is an ex-Ordinator. So they'll technically still be around in Skyrim

Vaults and value items was missing in OB. Hope they are in skyrim make thieving worth while. I also found them 30+ hours into the game. So many hidden goodies in morrowind.

I liked the Ordinators there armour was sick.

Like that idea. That is similar to Morrowinds setup, there were separate vaults in separate parts of Vivec. I agree they should be hard to break into, and the loot inside should be level based. So even if you find a way to cheat your way in there at level 1, you wont get nearly as much valuable plunder as level 50. This way, it would kind of be a reward, if you waited until level 50 to enter the vault, because it would then contain the best loot possible...

Just a thought.

Edit-

Amen to that. All of that. There did seem to be a LOT of hidden goodies in Morrowind. I agree with level scaling and applying this to weapons, but I also wish there were still some bad ass weapons, right at the beginning of the game. They could be in random, hidden places that will be hard to get to, or just places you wouldnt expect a wonder weapon. Same with armor and similar items. Alkavari Dai-Katana....anybody remember finding this puppy at the plantation in MW??

I want most weapons to be tailored to your level, but it would be nice to see some unique, well hidden items that are available immediately, albeit hard to obtain.

Yes remember the daeric Dai-Katana you took from the guy in the watch tower at the Dren plantation, all my character who used swords visited him as early as they could, he was around level 20 so you had to be prepared.
Problem with well hidden items is that you know their location the second time you play. Solution is to scramble them so you usually get something cool at the boss locations but not always something you need or something you can use well.

THATS what it was. The daedric katana, at the Dren plantation. God I loved that sword. hahaha.

Honestly, I think that is the best part about well hidden items. On the second play through you know where they are right from the start. Thats why they should be hard to get to, be heavily guarded, very well hidden in discrete locations, and so on. Also, they should be good, quality, un leveled items, but yet not grossely over powered for this reason.

I'd rather the higher level items be in areas and places that a low level character can't go or open. I like how in Morrowind I knew where specific secret items were, but they should make it harder and harder to get the items depending on the items power/armor/attack.

I don't want them to "scramble" the items so they randomly appear at the end of dungeons at all, at least not the artifacts and ultra powerful items

Instead of making Vaults Vaults, why not make them Dragon Lairs? Same purpose, just halfway up a mountain and guarded by a giant beast too.

lol I thought you meant Fallout vaults at first. But yea I loved MW's vaults, they had a lot of loot but were hard to plunder with lots of guards around so it was fair.

I don't really know how these Vaults where in Morrowind, don't spoil me, but I don't think there should be Vaults in cities. Perhaps dwemer built ancient vaults deep in Mountains with totally different types of enemies and dangers than the rest of the mountain dungeon.

Agreed. Ancient treasure rooms that you can discover, filled with loot beyond your wildest dreams. Also very well guarded by traps and enemies, and puzzles.

I wouldnt mind a centralized bank though that you could break into. Mostly, I just like the idea of these highly secure areas that contain good loot and treasures.

To have vaults would be great, but I hope for an Ordinator-ish enemy. Not the Ordinators, but their Skyrim counterpart. And I hope I can taunt them and take their helmets again :D

If the game had ten fold the numbers of uniques it had in OB then id vote yes for vaults, if there were vaults in OB you could probably collect every unique item in the game just by visiting 1 vault . . . also the loot should be randomized, id hate walking into the vault knowing exactly what it contains

If it fits Lore Wise then yeah you could put them in. Although don't have them like Fallout's Vaults have them be like a cave that acts as a small village.

True, but it should contain some powerful non-random loot though :celebration:

I don't care about vaults, but Ordinators have absolutely no relation to Skyrim.

This. Ordinators were cool, in Morrowind, but there's doesn't seem to be any reason for them to be in Skyrim.

i dont know if agree with that simply because im not 100% sure what you mean

if you mean some uniques should be found at the exact same place/vault in every playthrough then i disagree completely, i honestly cant find a reason for that

if you play it for the 1st time then it doesnt matter since you wont know where everything is, but on the 2nd playthrough ill know exactly where some uniques are which would totally ruin the sense of exploration for me . . . and i just know some wise-ass will respond with that dragged out line 'if you dont like it then dont use it . . . hit yourself over the head with a blunt object to forget the locations' (or something even more stupid)

i just love that feeling from diablo 2 when i kill a high lvl enemy or open a high lvl chest and i see unexpected green and gold items pop out . . . it made my genitals tingle

i like that idea, so that unique items within a certain range of how good they were could be in a different vault than before..
the only problem with doing to too random is having an amazing nuke of an item endingit up in one of the easier vaults
