Vurt's Ascadian Isles Tree Replacer II v0.1

Doesnt break the lore as much as my previous "Vurt's Ascadian Isles Mod". Unlike the older mod this mod is a pure tree replacer, it does not come with any landscape, flower or netch textures. I've left out animations as well, this to make the mod more performance friendly.

Most of the leaves textures are color matched to the original textures using Photoshop's "Match color" funtion, small tweaks has been made to make them fit together and look a bit more varied.

If you have my old mod "Vurt's Ascadian Isles Mod" installed i highly recommend that you remove these files from your Morrowind installation, this to get a more coherent look of the landscape.

data files/meshes/f:

flora_emp_parasol_01.nif
flora_emp_parasol_02.nif
flora_emp_parasol_03.nif
flora_bush_01.nif
flora_comberry_01.nif

data files/meshes/o:

flora_willow_flower_02.nif
flora_willow_flower_01.nif
flora_stoneflower_02.nif
flora_stoneflower_01.nif
flora_gold_kanet_02.nif
flora_gold_kanet_01.nif

you also might want to remove xnetch_bully.nif and xnetch_betty.nif from meshes/r, they can be a bit too colorful imo, and the glow doesn't help them fit any better ;) The landscape textures from this mod might not go too well with these trees either.

Awesome, based on the screenshots this looks very nice!

I'm a big supporter of lore friendliness. :D

Any recommendation for an AI texture replacer? I was thinking of using http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8610 again myself.

Looks like a good choice, i'll test it myself too.. i've been using vanilla landscape textures for my "main" install too long now ;)

The bark texture for flora_tree_ai_04 seems to be missing. Other than that I'm liking these trees a lot so far. Nice work.

Thanks for reporting that. If's fixed + collision was also removed from leaves on 3 trees.

Sweet looking replacer vurt, I like how "full" the trees appear.

Looks very nice, Vurt! :goodjob:

I liked using your original Ascadian Isles mod, but going back to something closer to the vanilla look is a welcome change in my game right now. Perhaps a little darker and/or more contrasted textures for the leaves wouldn't hurt, but that's just my personal preference.

Early last year Zackg had an Ascadian Isles mod in the works which unfortunately was never finished as far as I know. It featured the Ascadian Isles region with a strong Mediterranean/Greek look, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSp6KbLyn0k a working video I've found of his WIP. While I do realize that asking you to create something similar would be inappropriate, I thought I'd bring this up in case you find this concept intriguing and perhaps draw inspiration from it.

Thanks for the input, yeah the leaves could perhaps need some more tweaking. Everything was done fairly quick, a few hours (though i did have most textures already) so i can't say i've tested that many different colors schemes yet.

I remember those trees, they looked pretty good! Zackg always made quite "spindley" trees, he's got a good feeling of how to make the stems look very natural.

Edit: oh, and he did finish them i remember now.. here they are: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8171

Ah, that's cool! I didn't know there was a finished version of Zackg's AI replacer. I believe his ultimate goal was to create a more complete region overhaul with new types of trees added, new ground textures, etc. but a tree replacer is also very nice.

Looks great, I figured you were working on these after seeing less updates on the grazelands. My only recommendation is to maybe make the leaves a little darker so they don't blend in with the grass as much.

It needs a healthy mix of both dark and bright, otherwise the canopies blends into each other and you cant make out their forms. Something like http://piclair.com/data/j1sch.jpg.

Vurt, that is looking FINE, exactly how Ascadian Isles should be (for some reason I think "Elysian" when I read it, and this latest version fits perfectly with that mental image). Will this version have original-shape mushroom trees in the vanilla locations, or have you replaced those?

Currenty i use the old parasol trees, only with new textures and uv-mapping. I might do new that resembles the originals but with more details, not sure yet, i dont think the old ones are that bad (except the textures/uv-mapping).

Love the WIP shots.

One small issue: flora_tree_03 is used in a lot of interiors, and in some places it clips rather badly (e.g. with the flowerpots in the Telvanni towers). I've already shrunk it down a bit for my own game, but I thought I'd mention it - of course, if you're creating a new model for the update then it's irrelevant anyway.

And I would like to see new vanilla-styled mushrooms as well ^_^

Oh, that's very good to know, i'll try to make it the exact same size as the original then. I rarely visit interiors it seems :D Doesnt this tree clip real bad with my other AI mod then, no one has mentioned it before heh

Oooh, Very nice! Those mushroom trees do seem a little over-dark though (I realize that you haven't altered them yet.)

Tested, those are too saturated, doesnt look good at all with those trees + it doesnt come with new stems which i think is pretty weak..

Thank you for the new AI, I like these trees :) I just noticed that I can walk inside the ai_02 tree  Maybe something's wrong with its collisions.
