[RELz] Vurt's Grazelands Trees II

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 2:54 pm

Here are some pics of the Baobab tree if you are unfamiliar with it.. it can be really gigantic:

http://files.myopera.com/deenone/albums/710311/pokok_besar_giler.jpg
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/23/Adansonia_Grandidieri_Baobab_Morondava_Madagascar.jpg

Both of these pictures look fake to me. They might be real, but something just strikes me as off with the pics, especially the 2nd one.

The second picture is from Wikipedia, I doubt they would include a fake picture.

I just downloaded a documentary about those trees, they're really huge, some are 2000 years old so they've had a lot of time to grow, to say the least. They're far from the largest trees on earth though, they're not even close to a 100m high (like the Coast Redwood tree)...

Some screens of the upcoming version.

Fruit trees and palm trees has been suggested, any more ideas? :)

The extra trees will be optional (i'll make an .esp for them and place various unique trees around the grazelands.)

I'm sorry Vurt, I'm a huge fan of your work; but those palms look funky.

The rest is nice though.

"Funky" doesnt help me, how should they be improved?

The reference palm tree had a thick trunk, but i think they probably look better if i make them a bit thinner, like http://piclair.com/data/vsrli.jpg (placement is just temporarly, they'll be by the coast line)

Yeah that does look much better. The trunks on most palms (at least the ones around me in Florida) aren't all that round/smooth though, They tend to look more like http://www.pdphoto.org/jons/pictures4/trees_1_bg_010304.jpg

I liked the palm trees with slightly thicker trunks as well.

I also appreciate your improvement of the Joshua tree's textures, and introducing some dry trees - they all look great. :goodjob:

Yep, they really fit the bill. Reminds me of the palmtrees used in the Elsweyr-Anequina mod (TESIV) by Iliana

Vurt, that is an amazing coconut palm!!

What about a Pindo Palm? They're a shorter, squatter variety.

Obviously I'm partial for the tropical variety of trees :)

Those palms would be absolutely amazing with a swaying leaves animation. And everything else looks better than ever, vurt.

Some really tall palms could look good (even inland) if they were the right varieties. I like http://texastreeplanting.tamu.edu/treepictures/palm_calif_fan.jpg. Especially the tall ones.

skaeps.mp3. Yes im looking into making them sway, would make a lot of sense since they're at the coast and it should be quite windy there.. One of the trees currenty drops a coconut too, but its mostly for learning practice, dont know if i keep that.

Guitarjoe91: I was looking into fan palms yesterday. I really like http://image10.webshots.com/11/5/64/30/134256430suDXyv_fs.jpg. A real challange to model that one though.

Link's broke.

Those screens look awesome though.
I think Morrowind might be a bit too far north for all those palms, but they look nice so who cares ;)

GuitarJoe, yeah maybe so, but i think they go quite well together with the all the Hackle-Lo plants there (which looks quite exotic and palm-like).

1.0 is released. Sorry, still no animations, but i'm learning slowly ;)

Actually IIRC Vvanderfell was a tropical island before the volcano got active.

Thanks a whole bunch for making the palms Vurt! :foodndrink: Love the work, as usual!

Wow, those palm trees look great! They look great where you placed them, but they would be perfect on the island added by the Black Mill mod (Sunset Isle, I think its called).
