[WIPz RELz] Vurt's Groundcover

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 4:25 pm

Finally Solstheim gets some loving :)

-kwm

ps - I think Vurt is correct. The position variables in the grass gen tool are for changing the placement of the mesh in relation to the ground surface, not for setting rules on where on the terrain it goes. That's done by the ground texture. My suggestion, if you really want to try underwater, would be to use the disallow placement option and set the offset quite high for any non water ground texture. That way grass wouldn't be placed close edges where the terrain textures transition to land based ones  Dunno how well it'd work tho, you'd have to try it.

There are two variables for height, from what I heard in some mesh placement tips from Mireneye, fMaxHeight and fMinHeight.
He had got it working so his mesh placement method didn't place trees above a certain height, so I'm sure you could use a similar method to place grass underwater.

You could try contacting him about it if you're curious.

Does your machine need to able to run distant land for this to work?

That's the idea yes.

Coleman: Vality doesn't come here anymore, but he hasn't quit modding. The latest screens he showed me blew my mind, best graphics i've seen for Morrowind and probably ever for a mod. Haven't talked to him in over a month though.

Well pooh, does that mean we won't get to use the stuff that he's using? I take it that he is just modding for himself nowadays. :(

piinyouri: No, it just needs MGE.

Tes96: I'm sure there are modders who still releases Morrowind mods but arent active in these forums.

Dirnae: Ok thanks, good to know :)

Awesome! It was time someone picked up this idea, since Vality doesn?t seem to get back to MW modding. The screenshots look amazing.

I remember when Vality first disappeared and everyone was panicking!

"Who will bring Morrowind's graphics up to Oblivion's standards now?"

The answer seems to be Vurt...

Could you possibly make a version that only covers the grassed areas of Solstheim? In an area of near-constant blizzards, I feel like grass like that would be uncommon at the very most, and more likely nonexistent.

Yeah it now has two versions..

cut/paste from PES;

Change log
Solstheim v.1.1 released

* a much more varied flora, 20 different plants/grasses covers the grassy areas and, sparesly, some of the snowy areas (only in Lush version).

* 2 versions of the grass included; Lush and Sparse.

* Grass no longer covers the dirt textures (in forts and on roads etc).

* Grass is now random in sizes to make it look more natural and diverse.

Vurt, nice to see your gem. very nice look as allways.

what will happen if rename your grass file to original morrowind grass file name, will it run as a pluginless replacer of grass ? can it run without mge?

Dude, leave Solstheim alone! Its mint! It'll drive me nuts cause I won't be able to choose from your 5+ updates, bet they'll all look stunning. I could have never imagine grass to look good on Solstheim but you really did it! I'm starting to think I need to mod Oblivion to keep up with Morrowind because of you!
The Ashlands on the other hand need a little more work, It'd like to see a more brownish/grey grass and maybe mixed with the current ones, kinda like what you did with Solstheim. Also the grass should be shorter there, like it normally is in very dry / hot areas, otherwise it looks like a fresh prairie which it is def. not.

Look at some pictures of the Idaho lava field online for inspiration. Thats kinda how I imagine the Ashlands in real life.

Solstheim looks great!

I think I'm just going to leave Morrowind alone for the next month and then install everything that comes up, instead of regenerating distant land once a day. :P

sphinx: Morrowind does not have any kind of grass in its original form (well it has ground textures that looks like grass) so no you couldnt rename it to the original mesh names because they dont exist :)

The Buffet: Yes, the Ashland grass is highly unfinished. I always release my mods in an early form. I never seem to learn that i WILL continue working on them, i always think that i probably wont, for some reason hehe. Thanks for the pics, i'll try to get inspired by those, it does look a bit like a prairie right now.. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3253/2341290564_5e490dcce2.jpg, its from some lava field.. i think i have photos of a very similar looking grass somewhere on my HDD.

Povuholo: i've, kind of, left Morrowind alone since it was released (i've actually never finished it!), just waiting for mods for the absolute perfect playthrough ...and then i kind of got tired of waiting for stuff that i wanted so i started modding :hehe:

Well I noticed you have a sweet texture replacer for the ashlands. I looked at your screenshots and it looks a lot better than mine does with the grass. I kinda have a more vanilla like greyish texture which doesn't fade in that well with the grass. Can you tell me where yours is from ? I wanna try it and see what it looks like.

Unfortunately i dont keep track of my textures packs, i have so many, and they're also mixed/matched. I should probably remove my ground textures when i do this stuff, to match them with vanilla instead of a trillion random texture packs ;)

After being told "it's dangerous out there" Surt was a little amused at finding a pair of legionaires http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg282/MrKWMonk/MGEScreenshot635.jpg

Moving on he ran into a http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg282/MrKWMonk/MGEScreenshot638.jpg

Might post some more when the weather clears.

These are with the sparse package. 6000+ ref cells in the lush one makes my PC cry :P

Thank again for sharing.

Man I like it. I just checked out your other mods, didn't know some of them actually. Are you doing something like that for a living actually ? I can imagine this takes a lot of your time, how can you handle all this in your spare time ?

Well, I originally came here a while back after seeing some of Vaility7's stuff on google and youtube and dug out Morrowind again. He seems to have disappeared, anyone know what happend there ? But by now I think you dethoroned him, if this goes on I don't think I'll ever be playing this game again, but modding it up more and more while constantly upgrading my PC instead.

Well i happen to have a lot of spare time ;) I'm very interested in learning Blender and Photoshop at the moment + I love Morrowind, so it fits me perfectly doing this.

I had a conversation with Vality yesterday, he was busy modeling stuff ..for Morrowind.

@vurt
Oops! The uploaded v1.1 on PES has copies of the texture files in place of the meshes under:
'Data Files\Meshes\Grass' folder.

The meshes are MIA.

Those grasses fit the ashlands quite well in my opinion.
And the Solstheim-Grasses aren't bad either. They have become even better since you have added those variations.

SGMonkey and me have consulted about our Solstheim-Grass-Mod and we have decided to keep our meshes for the Skyrim-Mod then as some relief from our many modding-duties is more than welcome. :)

Ok, well i think i'll skip the AC region since i like your textures so much :)

I've decided that im not going to split the mod into several parts, except maybe for Solstheim.
