[wipz / Relz] Vurt's Leafy West Gash

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2010 10:43 pm

Vurt's Leafy West Gash

This mod replaces 5 of the 8 dead trees in the WG region + adds 1 new unique tree to a few locations.

The mod should be compatible with other mods that adds trees, such as TR, since i made the entries for my trees unique (thanks to AnOldFriend for tip!) - same as my other tree replacers..

Wow, they look extremely well done! I was wondering if you had any plan to make a few trees with red leaves at some point? I really dont know why but I've always thought that trees with red leaves would be cool around Gnisis. Anyways just throwing an idea you've probably heard many times/considered yourself, feel free to ignore ^_^

Again, they look great!

(edit: by "red leaves" I mean like in fall, orange/red leaves)

Any chance you'll release a version just changing the leaves, and not the trunks? That'd make it compatibly with other mods, such as Tamriel Rebuilt.

Kalian,
Hmm I dont really see the point, they're easy to access from my http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Portfolios.Detail&id=8790 on PES :)

Aeven,
It's .esp based, like my other mods so it's compatible. It wont replace trees added by other mods.

Mandamus,
My suggestion if you want red leaves is to download Paint.net and you can alter the hues of the leaves to you liking (red, blue, whatever! :D) and re-save them as DDS files (paint.net supports this format). It's really simple, feel free to PM if you need help.

Nice. So, you've done the Ashlands, Ascadian Isles, and West Gash. What other areas are left to tackle (Grazelands)?

Very nice indeed, I really like all your tree mods.

Thanks for sharing.

edit - sorry am confused a bit (which isn't hard!) in the first post you mention replacing 4 trees and then say it's esp based so won't replace trees from other mods. Just want to clarify as I'd actually prefer a straight up replacer for all WG type trees but it's not a big deal. Thanks.

very nice. do you actually add trees? i think you use a mod for that, don't you? will the animation be available for those that don't use mge? maybe it'll hit my fps too much. and i will translate it again, so the german community can use your replacer as well... :)

i love your trees. they look great - all of them!

Vrenir,

Next is Bitter Coast i think, i've done quite a few trees for that region, but i think im gonna start over instead of using them, I've learned a few tricks since i made them.

Sister,

No, i dont use any mod that adds trees, it looks more dense with these trees compared to the small leafless and dead trees. The animation is the same as for my AI trees, it doesnt require MGE. You're welcome to translate it as usual :)

Mr KWMonk,

Glad you like em :) it replaces 4 of the vanilla trees for that particular region, it does not touch other areas that might have been added by mods, like T.R. At least to my knowledge, it should look for the default meshes, and not my meshes which are named differently.

Hey vurt.Great looking mod, although after I downloaded it and installed it, for some reason I only get this:

http://img214.imageshack.us/i/mgescreenshot24.jpg/

I've no idea why this happens and I'm not a first time mod user. If you have any ideas that be great.I'm gonna see if I can fix it anyway.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: I fixed it. You forgot to put your meshes in the F folder when you packaged the mod

Looks great ingame.Noticed a few floaters though. But its nothing too bad.

The trees are excellent.Thank you :)

Screenies look good thanks for the download, Vurt

Also, whilst I'm here, why are the flora_root_wg_0*.nif meshes included, there are no statics defined to use them... Are they straight-up replacers? Not sure if those are vanilla mesh names....

Looks great ingame.Noticed a few floaters though, and some roots that are not connected to any trees. But its nothing too bad.

Meh, i always seem to forget something in the first upload i make... I'll update it tonite or tomorrow. One tree is also too sunken into the ground.

PES is usualy quite slow to approve mods so i expected that i would have time to check/fix stuff before people started downloading it :D

For now the roots are pure replacers for the vanilla ones, i will fix this in an update.. i had to alter the roots so they arent showing up at all, because they don't fit my trees.

Yeah I guess I'll do it myself when I download this mod eventually. I know how to recolor a texture lol but thanks for the offer to help, I merely said this to possibly give you ideas for future trees and mods, although I'll admit the idea may be bad, I dont know :P
Thanks for this release! ^_^

thanks to you vurt :)

did not see them ingame so far but in cs (finished some stuff) and there they look awesome, so they must be great ingame :D
and i used them as real replacer, no esp - so i had no mesh prob at all :P

@mandamus: the idea with the red leaf trees is a real good one. so if you retex and put red trees near gnisis sharing your work would be much appreciated ;)

Vurt's work is amazing! What impresses me a lot is that he actually replies to people's questions. Don't see that too often in modders. Or maybe you do and I just don't come on here enough. I just realized that Vurt is the same guy who did those gnarly trees in the Ashlands. Man, I can't wait to see more of his work. I have Vurt's portfolio bookmarked. Vurt's up there with Connary as far as retexturing. I wonder if he accepts donations.

They look very nice from up close, well done but they seem really odd from far away like in your bottom right have pic in the collage picture that you posted. Or is it just me?

CoolShady,

you mean only in that pic, or you think all trees looks odd in your game from far away? if you mean the pic the trees really lacks detail because of the lightning and you can only really see the shape. Maybe the shape is a little off, the huge trees are maybe a bit too dense..

Tes96,

I think most modders here are really nice and answers questions, the MGE guys are doing a great job for example..
..and thanks! Donations, well maybe if i put up a web site with my stuff i could need it to pay for the site. I've been thinking for a while to create a site with free textures, once i've built up a bigger library of my own textures maybe :)

These are really great quality work as always Vurt, but I think I'm gonna pass on this because it makes the West gash region look too similar to the Grazelands for my tastes.

Still excellent work though. :)

yes, all my mods can be used as resources, all i ask for is the credit where it's due.

I'm thinking of releasing a pack of unreleased trees too, just as a resource pack..

I have no problems with that, but why don't you give me some constructive criticism instead, at least that would be of some interest and maybe even of use to me (so i know what i can do to make them better).

I know you're a modder Khunka, would you find it useful or even interesting if i posted something like this in your mod threads..?
