[RELz] Vurt's Wasteland Flora Overhaul

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 12:33 pm

Vurt's
Wasteland Flora Overhaul

Features:

* 44 all new tree and plant models

* Replaces most trees in the game including the Yucca plants and trees in the forest area around Jacob's Town

* .esp that adds cacti, dead trees, juniper trees and other kinds of trees that exists
in the Mojave desert.

* New grasses. Higher resolution and better colors to fit most ground textures better

What's new in 1.6:

* New cacti models

Installation:

Delete the old .esp (vurt's trees & grass) if you have this mod installed previously. You can
also remove the folder "vurt" in /textures before you install this since there might be old textures
there that arent needed anymore.

Copy the "Data" Folder to your Fallout: New Vegas folder

I haven't created LOD 2D models for these trees so the view distance of the trees
should be set to max in the options, this makes the LOD models useless (they're not activated when this is set to max).

FAQ:

Q: Do i need to install the previous version or any patches to use this mod?
A: No. I really, really dislike mods that has patches, it's better to just pack everyhing up again. You'll never see my file page cluttered with patches, it'll always be just one file that is needed except when there's optional files like an optional .esp or a completely new theme of trees.

Q: Does the wasteland become a forest with the .esp? How many trees are added?
A: No, but it does add a lot of trees, around 600 trees and 300 cacti (the default game has 4564 Joshua trees and many thousands of yucca plants, as a comparison). There are sometimes smaller patches with a lot of trees. The focus has not been to represent the Mojave Desert as it looks today 2011, though all flora that is modelled does grow there.

Q: There's a tree/cactus blocking an item/person/path!
A: Enter the console, click the tree, enter disable and save your game. Also report this in the comment section so i can fix it for the next release.

Q: This mod is incompatible with mod X because it places a tree in a bad spot!
A: See above - use the console.

Q: I don't like the additional flora, the wasteland is supposed to be dull and boring!
A: Don't enable the .esp if you only want the mod to replace the existing trees with more detailed models.

Q: Can i use your 3D models for my mod?
A: Yes, as long as you don't take credit for my hard work i'm ok with that. Please also send me an email with the link to the mod, its always fun to see what other people come up with.

Suggestions for additions or improvements is always welcome. Use the comment page or email me.

Awesome.

I've been enjoying the previous version very much, I feel like I'm exploring many areas for the first time again.

I might do a lite version. If you're not using the .esp there's no point in updating, i didn't update the joshua trees.

I've uploaded a "Lite version" of the .esp.

The vanilla game has 4564 trees (not counting the thousands of small Yucca plants). My mod adds 603 trees (439 in Lite version - where they're also placed further apart and their sizes are often reduced). I've also removed over 100 Joshua trees at spots where i've placed mine, so it's not as much as it might sound.

I will try it out, though it does not sound that lite, plus the Joshua are very quite abundant in the base game, I had no issue with those. I was hope for like half, but I can always disable stuff. Anyway I will let you know.

Update: I just spent 20 mins running around the Mohave disabling about 30-40 trees, there were a few areas I thought were too abundant. But that was only a minor sweat off my back.

As to your mod, awesome! I love the cacti, the trees look better and some even seem to have a more pleasant green to them, I know the cacti do, great job.

The joshua trees are everywhere, I placed 600 trees and i thought that was quite a lot, but its really nothing compared to the 4500 Joshua trees in the vanilla game heh

For the next version i'm replacing many of the older joshua trees which i don't think look that good, i'm trying to make them a bit more "chaotic" looking, which is how they often can look.

Your right actully I delete a few of those too, but whatever, the mod with some easy work on my end is what I wanted, thanks alot for the lite version!

Project Nevada seems really cool. I'm bascily also just waiting for mods to mature a bit before i start playing FO:NV, it seems great though (i loved FO3).

What about mutation and flora, I could replace the tree models and maybe grasses with some really twisted / mutated flora to give the place a completely different atmosphere.

I'm not sure it would make any sense or if anyone would use it. Opinions would be good.

I'm not sure how well I'd like it as a replacement per say, just because I like the Mojave flora and replacing it all would make the game seem less like the Mojave. But I think if you added some of the new mutated flora throughout the wasteland it could give it a good look. They turned out really well.

Well the point of such a mod would be to make the whole Mojave look really alien and foreboding and not so much like the Mojave that we know :)

I'm not too keen on placing any of these in the original mod, i think they're too "out there". They need to be in a specific mod with a new theme. Mixing them with the normal trees looks really distasteful.

I kinda like the models themselves, but the burnt out blackened textures don't really fit, in my opinion.

Hey vurt, any plans to convert some of these models (especially the cacti) for a future Mournhold overhaul? :icecream:

you're free to convert them yourself, just need to open them in blender and resave as a Morrowind .nif.

Oh, okay :) If I do a conversion, is it alright if I release it? All credit would go to you of course.

I am using the lite version, but can I dl this just to get the replacers for Jacobstown? I finally went there after 100+ hours of play it was really neat(I like snowy/conifer type environments the most). It would be nice to have better pine trees there.

yes, you can use the lite .esp with the latest version, but you won't get the chollo cacti and some of the other new models. you'll get new yucca plants and new trees for jacobs town since those are pure replacers that doesnt rely on the .esp at all.
