[Relz] Vurt's Weather Settings for Bloom

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:36 pm

These are simply my .ini settings for the weather. I've spent a lot of time tweaking these to my liking, but your mileage may wary, since you might not be using the same shaders or shader settings as i do, though I have posted which shaders i'm using and also my bloom settings (see below).

The vanilla weather settings in Morrowind are terrible for MGE with Bloom since they tend to overbrighten the weather quite a bit making textures and the sky look washed out, with these settings i've tried to correct that + making the weather more beautiful, more convincing and more varied looking.

In clear weather everything is now drenched in http://i37.tinypic.com/24qibg4.jpg, like clear weather should be. In overcast and http://i35.tinypic.com/qsqpna.jpg it will be darker, http://i33.tinypic.com/2n6ckxy.jpg and http://i34.tinypic.com/2vkiwr7.jpg are even darker and blight at night time is pure terror! (almost complete darkness). http://i33.tinypic.com/wmczmc.jpg are much darker, clear and http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=kean2h&s=4 weather are less dark. http://i37.tinypic.com/33c2fec.jpg are more beautiful and more http://i34.tinypic.com/2zeb0oi.jpg now, http://i33.tinypic.com/mku815.jpg in clear days also looks nicer.

I've tweaked those settings for use with the standard Morrowind skies, if you're using other textures it might not look right, but you're very welcome to post your results.

Remember to back up your Morrowind.ini!

Shaders i'm using / settings for Truebloom_g6_3. :
http://download317.mediafire.com/hevjmbeyw0wg/mwzh2zztjlm/zHDR.fx (vector HDR = 0.34) Optional since this makes clear weather a bit too dark, other weathers looks great.

Copy/paste over the editable section in Truebloom_g6_3 settings (Tools, Shader Editor and browse to "Truebloom_g6_3" in the upper left, just paste my setting over yours and exit MGE.)

const float bloom_mult_global = 0.8f; // The overall multiplier for bloom. Effects all areas.
const float bloom_mult_uwater = 1.2f; // Underwater mutliplier for bloom. Only takes effect when the camera is underwater.
const float bloom_mult_inside = 0.86f; // Interior multiplier for bloom. Can combine with bloom_mult_uwater when both are true.
const float bloom_mult_outside = 0.5f; // Exterior multiplier for bloom. Can combine with bloom_mult_uwater when both are true.

const float bloom_depth = 1.0f; // Changes the effect of depth shifts on bloom
const float bloom_cutoff = 0.3f; // Effects the strength and focus of highlights (higher produces softer, weaker highlights).
const float bloom_power = 1.0f; // Effects the focus and hue of hightlights (higher creates more narrow, single-color highlights).
const float bloom_blurDiv = 5.2; // Effects the brightening/darkening performed during blur passes. 5.2 is even, lower is brighter.

You can change how often weather changes occur in the section below by changing "Hours Between Weather Changes". I'm using "5" so weather will be more varied. Edit to what you prefer.

....try both and see which of the settings you prefer. the new one has prettier sunsets ;) but can look dull with the newer truebloom (g6_3 looks best, imo).

Wow... i like it alot... How do I get my morrowind to look like this??

EDIT: I love every screen except for the one in the Tamriel Rebuilt town. It just seems a little too orange.

Well um, its what this thread is all about :D i've even posted which shaders im using.

edit: yeah its a bit orange in that pic! i think its just before sundown.

Sky Day Color=028,90,137
Ambient Day Color=80,65,50

is what you want to tweak if you think the clear weather is to yellow.

Cool... Sorry I'm kinda new to MGE. But is there simple instructions about how to apply shaders?

Oh and what texture/mesh replacers are you using?

http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/morrgraphext/index.php?title=Main_Page

Ask in the official MGE thread if you have problems. Basicly you just install MGE, go to tools, edit active shaders and add them from there.

I'm using a mix/match of everything there is out there + also a few of my own. Like many other on this forum im a big fan of Conary's textures, unforunately there are no official links for them (he took them down because he's making new ones), but they can be found using, well, common knowledge about how to use the internet ;)

Thanks for sharing, your Truebloom settings are pretty nice.

I'll try the weather settings later.

Very colourful too. :)

Grrr... Connary... I saw all his stuff before and it's awesome but my computer couldn't handle it before (Was barely getting playable FPS). Now that I got my new rig all his textures are gone... :(

Thanks for sharing your Ini settings, I love seeing what tweaks other people have come up with. I'm kinda obsessed with Ini settings, their true power seems unknown to many.
I'm going to compare with my own and test yours out, even though I use more modest shaders than you it should still improve my visuals. You definitely took more time perfecting the Daytime coloring than I ever have.
Thnks

edit: I find AOF Skies don't get too bright, and still look similar to vanilla, but then again I only use ps1.1 bloom.

Thanks for sharing these settings, Vurt. I've only modestly tweaked my night sky, but your daylight screenies are luscious so I'll try them. :twirl:

Question. What kind of machine are you running this on and what kind of FPS do you get with these settings?

Intel C2D E8400 overclocked to 4.2GHz, ATI 4870x2, 4GB RAM, Windows7

you can see my fps in the left corner of the screens (view them as "raw image" and the screens get bigger ;) ).

Right now i'm having really good FPS, crossfire is working and its doubling my FPS. 45-60 FPS usually, but sometimes in the low 30's.

edit: no, the fps is in the lower RIGHT corner.

Wow... Impressive. I think your machine is even gonna outperform my new one... That... That makes me angry! :stare:

Just kidding! :foodndrink:

EDIT: I have the 5870 but only one currently. And I can't get my overclocking past 4.0 on my i7. Are you using liquid cooling?

Nope its air cooled. The e8400 is, imo, still best for the money/performance if you want to overclock, but its also luck.. some batches of CPU's overclocks better than others, i guess i got lucky :) 4.3 is the highest i'v gone with this, with another bios.

Oh well... I went cheap and got the 2.66 GHz processor but it overclocks to 3.8 so I guess I don't have too much to complain about. Plus my solid state drive and 12GB of RAM may help me out... :hubbahubba:

I quite like the weather settings, though there are a few issues...

If I use Phal's sunshafts shader, the sun it renders http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/iamerik/MW%20and%20Oblivion/MGEScreenshot34.jpg.

Late in the evening, the clear weather sky also has http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/iamerik/MW%20and%20Oblivion/MGEScreenshot31-1.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/iamerik/MW%20and%20Oblivion/MGEScreenshot32-1.jpg (using AOF's skies). And then one hour later you can http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/iamerik/MW%20and%20Oblivion/MGEScreenshot33-1.jpg. The difference between night and near night is a bit big. Sometimes in the evening the sky seems to http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/iamerik/MW%20and%20Oblivion/MGEScreenshot35-1.jpg

It does fix the problem with Truebloom making the sky too bright when you look even a little bit down in most situations, except for foggy weather (maybe because of my low distant land view distance).

But often it looks good:

Hey Vurt, the Ini you posted has no info for the following...
[Weather Foggy]Sky Sunrise ColorSky Day ColorSky Sunset ColorSky Night Color[Weather Overcast]Sky Sunrise ColorSky Day ColorSky Sunset Color

Is that part of your technique, or did you forget them?

This might be why Povuholo is getting some odd skies.

Oops, sorry about that, i must have messed those settings up somehow, or some other mod has removed these settings.. I'll check everything again and tweak/update the .ini settings in the first post! Good that you noticed it Pluto :)

I've updated the ini now, sunsets for many weathers are tweaked, including cloudy weather that you showed in your screen.. cloudy weather (day) is now a little brighter also, it was a bit too dark before..

What are you using for the Ascadian trees. I like the way it looks. Is it just a texture replacer for Vality's?

(Someone should fix Vality's billboards for MGE. Same goes for Nich's WG billboard trees.)

Aeven: I'm using some of RazorJack's Better Trees as a replacer for the original meshes.

I've updated the .ini again, quite a bit of difference from the first i posted here.

That reminds me, I stopped using billboards on trees once I picked up MGE because I heard there were some issues with them not looking so nice at a distance. But, it seems you have only mentioned two of the three billboard tree mod creators I know of out there, would this indicate that SWG's billboards render okay in MGE distance?

I really don't want to switch to them until issues with distant land are worked out, otherwise it seems a little redundant to me.

I'm gonna have to try these. Nice resource, vurt. Good settings take so long to find.

You're gonna have to rework them for 6-5, though. ;)

That should be 6_3... I'm starting to lose track of all the revisions.
Time for a release!
