Vvardenfell 200 years after Oblivion

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 10:11 am

since I am working on a complete new heightmap for Tamriel...how would you expect Vardenfell to look like 200 years after oblivion ...I mean the Red Mountain exploded and a huge crater where Vivec was once before ...that is what we know from the infernal city...do I have the freedom to create a complete new Vvardenfell..leaving just the basic shape of it ?...any thoughts are welcome ...

cheers

A new heightmap? Is this for Oblivion? What's wrong with your current heightmap?

As for Vvardenfell in the fourth era, I imagine you would be free to use a lot of artistic license there. I can imagine a massive crater where Vivec used to be, perhaps with a huge lake at its center where water has gathered, and nature recolonizing the area from the outside in. Encroaching forests of trees and mushrooms around the perimeter?

I'm not sure how the Hist work, but could they be causing an environmental change to the south of Morrowind as well? Since the Argonians now control the province.

well....the new heightmap will be lore acurate this time, enlarged using a factor of 1,5 and probably get its own worldspace...but I will not deceid how to use it before Skyrim has been released...

for vvardenfell..yep I would like to create it as an island completely destroyed by the eruption of the Red Mountain but was not sure if we have got any lore background yet....for the Hist..I am not sure how Black Marsh or at least parts of it will look like after the events of the infernal city ???? I fear we will not know before the second novel comes out in september...

What remains of Vivec is “an island of ash and shattered stone, still surrounded by water, but this water appeared to be boiling. The steaming air stank of hard minerals, and the sky was bleak and gray.” p.256

“The island stood in the center of a bay that as close to perfectly circular, with a rim standing somewhat higher that the island except in one place where it opened into a sea or larger lake....
To the left, beyond the rim, the land rose up in rugged mountains.” p.257

If you're waiting for Skyrim to decide what to do with it, maybe you should wait to use Skyrim's map of Tamriel.

I will of course include the Skyrim heightmap data from TES 5 for the new map but I dont think we will get much more of tamriel except some lod border regions and some backgound info that can be found in ingame books etc...Cyrodiil will be remade as we know it from TES 4 though.... but improved with better erosion filter etc

We'll definitely get a new map of Tamriel. It won't include heightmap statistics, but it will be codex. Guessing what Vvardefell looks like, based on the novel and fan-terpretation, will only be wrong.

But if you're set on making the heightmap now, I'm not helping you by suggesting to wait.

Somewhere was a tread with map of Tamriel after the Crysis. Speculative, but this is what you want. We just need to find that tread! :banghead:

So that means you gave up on Summerset Isles and the other providences for the TWMP Heightmap for TES-IV: Oblivion? I hope not!

Yes, but that's 160 years before Skyrim.
