So.. Vvardenfell is no more ?!

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:39 am

According to the Wiki

4E 22 — Red Mountain erupts; Vvardenfell is destroyed.
In Vivec's absence, the Ministry of Truth becomes unstable. Vuhon creates an Ingenium that uses at first dozens of dying souls, then a small number of living ones to stabilize the rock. The soul of Sul's wife Ilzheven was among them. In a fight to free her, the Ingenium is destroyed and the rock crashes into the city of Vivec with all the energy it originally had. The impact causes Red Mountain to erupt and destroys the entire island of Vvardenfell, as well as causing massive destruction to the rest of the province.

So I wonder, is the Island really gone completely or just reshaped ? :)
What′s your opinion ?

Well, because it was a volcanic eruption, eventually the island will be hospitable again and the terrain will surely have changed. The island certainly isn't gone, it will just be a much different place. In TES III I can't say that Vvardenfell is all that advanced aside from the greater cities of Vivec. Who knows how far they advanced between TES III and the eruption, but if a lot was lost, it could take many years and generations to rebuilt what once was.

I, for one, would love to see a Dunmer come back where they rebuild Vvardenfell and take it to those slimy Argonians.

You know your people has it coming when a TELVANI admits they deserve what the Argonians are dishing out.

A weak man, who was distraught by the dead of his wife, to scared to fight for his land and his ancestors. He cowered and hid, he's about as much of a Dunmer as a Dark Elf born and raised in Cyrodiil..

It's no longer the tallest mountain in Tamriel. This is from dialogue inside Skyrim, saying Hrothgaar is the tallest peak.

This only makes sense.

So I take it you're totally cool with the Dunmer slavery/racism thingy?

Fair enough, then. We'll just have to agree to disagree on whether or not the Dunmer deserved what they got.

Well no, not really. Still, I really don't like what's happening in Morrowind right now and I wouldn't have minded if nothing like that happened at all.

I agree with fire_hawk_767. In this case I'd assume "destroyed" means the terrain was rendered inhospitable, not that the volcano obliterated itself Krakatoa-style.

In fact, if you clip beyond the playable area of the game you can actually see Vvardenfell. I'm not sure if this is something you can legitimately see in-game, but with graphics maxed out it wouldn't surprise me.

It was never the tallest mountain on Tamriel; that's title's always belonged to the Throat of the World.

Whoa.

Makes me wonder what Bethesda has in mind... I mean, why would they put it there if it wasn't intended to be seen.

Only the dunmer complaining in Windhelm, should they leave. The rest seem to be more concerned with surviving the next day, and doing as much as they can to earn a good living.

There's a difference between a mountain and a volcano. Right?

Yeah, technically... But Red Mountain is a volcanic mountain. It's a volcano that's formed a mountain. If that's what you were getting at.

Some mountains are volcanoes, but not all. In this case, I think Red Mountain is a stratovolcano.

I'm pretty sure it was always intended for Dunmer culture and influence to go downhill after the events of Morrowind. After all, Sotha-Sil and Almalexia were killed off and Vivec disappeared shortly afterwards. The feudal society was slowly transformed into a centralized rule, governed from Mournhold rather than Vivec (and by an Imperial puppet, no less). The power of the great houses waned. While it might not have been the main plot of Morrowind proper, much of the Nerevarine's story was directly interwoven with the rise of the empire and the falling of the great houses - but also in unification for the Dunmer race (so I guess something positive came from the events).

I'm not really surprised it turns out Red Mountain exploded. The fall of the Dunmer began two games ago, didn't it? By the time of Skyrim, it seems Dunmer have almost scooped down to Khajiit level of poverty and nomadlife. The difference is, of course, that the Khajiit don't seem very bothered with their life at all, whereas the dunmer seem kinda miserable.

My poor poor Dunnmer. *sniff*

I hope they get their glory back someday....I'd hate to see them fade away. :(

I say bleah, to mostly human dominated fantasy. >_<
