Vvardenfell or Solstheim

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2009 9:03 pm

Seriously, if there's one place in a videogame that has transended the virtual boundries and become as close to a real place as possible in my mind, it's Vvardenfell.

Same for me, but with Solstheim instead :) (and well, with Vvanderfell too, but in a minor scope).

I do love Solstheim. but Vvardenfell will always be home. Seriously, if there's one place in a videogame that has transended the virtual boundries and become as close to a real place as possible in my mind, it's Vvardenfell.

I have to agree with you. Vvardenfell is the only place I've felt truly at home in a video game. Sadrith Mora was like my second home for quite a few years. I miss playing Morrowind. That said, the Skaal village had a very homey feel for me also. I made an effort to make friends with everyone in the towns I owned houses in (RP'ing and mods), so that probably helped. The people were quite "real" to my over-imaginative self.

Hello brotha :wavey:

heh, what else could I say? I love snow, cold, an 'untouched' or pure alpine nature/environment, nordic runes written in stones, cozy wooden houses with a warm fire, a good meal, berry juice and mead. I'd be idiot if I had chosen Vvanderfell instead :)

I would choose Solstheim, I like the cold, I like nords, I like horkers and I hate volcanoes. So Solstheim is the perfect choice for me.

Spoiler
Plus, Vvardenfell gets destroyed by a giant rock and a volcano anyway.

Vvardenfell, just because it's so winding and cozy. I love Nordic architecture and the cultural elements of Solstheim, but the entire landmass is just a bit too open for my liking.

Vvardenfell is just to badass to not vote for, the rainy atmosphere is just classic morrowind, nothings like it

1. Stay at Thirsk

2. Get drunk

3. Party

4. Cry

5. Get killed by bear

If that isn't a good life I don't know what is.

Vvardenfell, I never really liked Solstheim much. Argonians don't like the cold.

Which is why they deliberately heat us up :flamethrower:

Vvaardenfell.

Solsteim is bitter cold. But there is a boat from Khuul if you have any reason to go.

Contrary to what many have posted, I really didn't enjoy Solstheim, aside from parts of helping develop the Raven Rock settlement.

For whatever reason, I just didn't enjoy the frozen landscape, and thought it was relatively boring and mundane compared to the rest of the game (I felt the same about the bland depiction of Cyrodiil, but thought it at least had enormous potential due to political, economic, and military possibilities which were never realized). I didn't complete the BM expansion's MQ, never felt any urge to play a Werewolf, and don't intend to go back again to do so, even though I still load up MW and the TR maps fairly often. I'm definitely not looking forward to an entire game being centered in a Nordic climate for TES V; hopefully Bethesda will tackle Black Marsh, Elsweyr, or Valenwood next, although I wouldn't object to the Sommerset Isles or Hammerfell either. Come to think of it, I think I'd enjoy anyplace BUT Skyrim.....

Finally someone who feels the same. All you snow lovers must live somewhere where you rarely if ever get snow. Snow might be pretty for a few weeks but not for several months a year...

Vvardenfell only because it is bigger but if Solstheim were around Vvardenfell's size it would definitely be Solstheim.

This. Although I'd probably hate the cold.

Vvardenfell... So i can retire from adventuring and drink tea with Divayth, his daughters, Ahnassi, Draren Thiralas, Andilo Thelas and Jiub while we sit in the Onyxhall and have a nice chat.

Edit: Oh, and Indrele Rathryon will be there, too.

Actually, I′m Scandinavian ;)

I like a long winter, always have. Plus it really makes springtime more beautiful than it would be without a real winter preceding it :)

Well I guess you're living in the right place then ;)
For me winter was fun as a child, at least for a little while. Nowadays it's just annoying. It takes twice the time to get to and from work. There's nothing to do outside (No I don't ski) and when you decide to walk home from the pub you might break your leg and freeze to death... :cold:

That's partially true in my case. I grew up near the Illinois/Wisconsin border where there was snow on the ground from late November through early March, and January temperatures sometimes didn't reach zero during the daytime. These days I live in Oregon where it feels like a mild summer day all year round. Maybe having Scottish ancestry on both sides of my family also has something to do with it but whatever the reasons, I love snow and cold temperatures. ;)

Prefer Vvardenfell. Don't like cold. Solstheim likes to lag a lot on my computer anyway.

I live close to the Alps and we get lots of snow from late November through April sometimes. It doesn't get as cold as Scandinavia / the continental US, although -13F is not uncommon. What really pisses me off is when in March you feel spring is coming, it gets warmer, you hear birds singing and BAM 1 week later it snows again... I need to move to California and in winter when I miss the snow just go on holiday in the old country...
But enough with my ranting

Solstheim just felt too empty for my taste. I need green, I need life. Winter is just "dead nature" to me

Living in Florida now, I haven't seen snow in 14 years. My wife even longer, and her nieces and distant family, have never seen or experienced snow. Some of them are in their forties.

Hmm, sure you′re not living here in Scandinavia after all?

I can see the beauty in both islands, but as I said Vvardenfell is too ashy, sandy and cliff racy for me

Thank god no  I like Scandinavia in the summer though
Your winters are a lot tougher than ours. Your snow stays for 5-6 months right? We sometimes get 15°C in February or March... But like I said earlier 2 weeks later it will snow again. The last snow we get is usually in mid/late March or sometimes early April. I remember ten years or so ago we had 20°C on Christmas Eve, that was weird

Now this is the first real reason for liking Solstheim more

Yes, I can agree with this. By March even I'm ready for a change ;)

But the same thing can be said about summer. Just about the time I personally am ready for summer heat to go away, and it looks like relief is coming in the form of cooler fall temperatures, BAM we get hit by one last heat wave.

For me what it comes down to is this: if I'm going to be uncomfortable, I would prefer to be uncomfortably cold rather than uncomfortably hot.
