Vvardenfell or Solstheim

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2009 7:54 pm

Why anyone would pick Solstheim is beyond me. It's just cells and cells of ice, or forest

Indeed it is beautiful :)
simply inferior to the complex and wonderful variations of environment offered.

You mean the ash and sand? :goodjob:
And there are no Gods on Solstheim. Or Daedric shrines.

Thank God
Or Telvanni. Or Balmora.

Meh

Vvardenfell, I love the alien landscape over there! Mushroom forests are great!

Both are really cool islands, but Vvanderfell caters to a lot more character types, while Solstheim can only accommodate a few types.

I hate cold, snow and earth-like environments.

Know what I loved about Morrowind when I first started playing? It's a unique, alien landscape. So I pick Vvardenfell any day. It just seems different enough from the world I grew up in to keep me fascinated.

You gotta love Thirsk, and that Svenja is a doll :hubbahubba:

I actually had Karl′s recall location right outside his free shack in Seyda Neen from day one. But it didn′t take long after his arrival to Solstheim before his new safety location was right outside the mead hall instead

So are you going to play Skyrim then?

I loved Morrowinds landscape because it had an alienensque to it. I can't remember what came out first, but I also like how Morrowind has Lord of the Rings feel to it as well. Now only if it had Dwarvendell (or Moria) in the game it would have been (as The Miz says) Awsome. :D

Although I do like the winter wonderland which is Solstheim, I prefer Vvardenfell overall. Maybe down to the fact I have spent so long there and because I find its appearance strange and appealing.

I am fascinated by Solsteim. I do love Vvardenfell too, but solsteim is so appealing. I don't like cold myself, but how the Nords survive is fascinating. Can't wait for Skyrim!

To me that question is easy. Because I′m nordic myself it′s Solstheim all the way. The pine trees, bears, wolves, ice and snow, that′s just home to me. I felt it right away when getting off the boat and I have no intention of ever returning to Vvardenfell with all its politics, sand and dunmers calling me 'outlander' all the time.

Heh, I live on the edge of the west pennine moors, with much grass and limited tree growth, so for me, the Grazelands region feels almost like home. Its probably because of this resemblance that I imagine vvardenfel as being cold, rather than warm as most people seem to see it.

Bloody hell that looks barren. You could fit all of Vvardenfel into that expanse of dirt and grass.

Solstheim with its snow and pine feels almost exotic to me.

Yeah that certainly looks cold. But the reason why most people think Vvardenfell is warm is because of the volcano :)

I'd say another reason why folks think Vvardenfell is a warm place is because we start the game in a swamp. The Wiki describes the Bitter Coast as being a place of "humid, putrid swamps and salt marshes." That's bound to color the way many players see the rest of the game world.

I actually have a hard time imagining Vvardenfell as a cold place, to be honest. Even southern Solstheim seems temperate to me.

I think it's the desolation that does it for me. The northern ashlands in particular, and the bitter coast feels more like an irish bog than a tropical swamp.

Vvardenfell being an island, and with no forests or other obstacles there to speak of to block the wind, it should be a very windy place. Other than the occasional blight storms, that is. Come to think of it, it looks like much warmer a place than it should be, especially the Grazelands. Also, people might be outside without a shirt on, the area is vulcanic... Who knows if it truly is warmer than it looks like.

Heading north in Solstheim, that island for me turns into snowy and cold place so quickly that even the southern part must feel freezing. :)

Its difficult to compare them due to the size. If they were the same size I would say Vvardenfell but only just. As they are though Vvardenfell wins hands down. I am pissed off that they destroyed Vvardenfell :( lol

Reason? Many diffrent places and climates :D Ill prob stick to one place though, grow my own house... sit in the sun :P

Indeed, and it does have some snow here and there too so I guess it cannot be much warm at all :hehe:

Note to self: Bring snowmobile :D

I like a long winter, always have. Plus it really makes springtime more beautiful than it would be without a real winter preceding it :)

Pretty nice point of view. :)
But as far as I am concerned, Solstheim svcks. The Bloodmoon main quest svcks (seriously), Hircine svcks, the Riecklings and their ridiculously strong reflect svck, etc.
I remember that before I played the expansion for the first time I was so eager to try it out, the werewolf thing and all... Gosh, I was very, very disappointed.
Generally speaking I find that both expansions are far below Morrowind in terms of everything. You could say that's because they're just expansions after all, but I feel there's more than that. There is a kind of magical feel with Morrowind which I did not find in Mournhold or Solstheim.
