Vvardenfell or Solstheim

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2009 1:11 pm

To me that question is easy. Because I′m nordic myself it′s Solstheim all the way. The pine trees, bears, wolves, ice and snow, that′s just home to me. I felt it right away when getting off the boat and I have no intention of ever returning to Vvardenfell with all its politics, sand and dunmers calling me 'outlander' all the time.

So, what say you?

I'd have to say Vvardenfell. I enjoy the company of the xenophobic dunmer. :D

Vvardenfell only because it is bigger but if Solstheim were around Vvardenfell's size it would definitely be Solstheim.

Vvardenrfell, but only because i like to use Rallen Hlaalo's place in Balmora as my base of operations. (small, tidy, infinite storage.. plenty of crates to lock and unlock to increase my security skills)

I answered the exact opposite for the exact same reason. :D I'm from Finland, and I can't stand the pine trees, snow, wolves, bears, etc. in Solstheim. It's just icky. I don't want to have to deal with the gross cold Nordic winters in real life AND while I'm playing - so Vvardenfell for me, any day. I loooove Vvardenfell.

I loved Vvardenfell, but Solstheim is just awesome. I think in the end I spent more of my time on Solstheim than on Vvardenfell. Solstheim had such a great atmoshpere. The bloodmoon quest was incredible, probably my favourite quest. Solstheim was like a game unto itself for me. I hope that if they choose to make the next elder scrolls in Skyrim (crossing my fingers) that they wil carry over things that made Solstheim so cool, like draugrs and stalhrim and such.

Haven′t done the quest, but otherwise I′m totally with you there :tops:

I like solstheim even though Vvardenfell is alot bigger and has more places to explore its just a pain to travel anywhere and the dust storms and creatures are just annoying on Vvardenfell. When im on Solstheim i can just run straight to anywhere that i want to.

Solstheim offers a welcome change of scenery from Vvardenfell, but due to being smaller and less varied (Not that I'm criticizing, it's an expansion, of course it won't offer as much as the standard game.) it just can't keep me occupied as much as Vvardenfell can.

Though even if the two places had the same amount of landmass and content, I think I'd still favor Vvardenfell, because its exotic landscape and wild life still interests me more than pine trees and wolves, I've seen those in real life too, but mushroom the size of trees and bipedal creatures with an absurdly huge head and tiny forelimbs are things I don't generally get to see in real life, and as much as there are some aspects of Dunmer society I can't admire, as fictional cultures, I still find the various Dunmer cultures more interesting than the Nords.

Vvardenfell because it's larger and contains more people. Also if you're including Mournhold with Vvardenfell, that would be another reason I would stick to the island.

Vvardenfell. east coast specifically. solstheim is a bit too empty of settlements, and lacking in magic for my tastes.

that and flashbacks to "the ice level" of many other games. sometimes i have nightmares about a rieckling showing up in a blue parka and shooting icicles at me.

Try rp-ing as a Nord character living on Solstheim...

After a few hours its like: "well... now what. ive done everything, been everywhere, and my only companion is a barrel full of approx 120 boar meat."

Yea i made a mod that put boar meat in boars for myself. Sort of made sense to me...

Vvardenfell because you don't have a general merchant on Solstheim unless you want to work for a trade monopoly.

Personally I liked working for the EEC and helping a new settlement get built.

Oh, it wasn't bad, but my character struggled to do it because he hated the EEC. Actually, as far as RP goes, he would refuse to have any role in it.

Same here. Karl the Northener despises any empire trying to force their way onto others and thereby eliminating their own way of living. I must say however that a village at Raven Rock would be nice in a way...

Solstheim. I like it much better than the main land, mainly because it seems more contained and less threatening.

Contrary to what many have posted, I really didn't enjoy Solstheim, aside from parts of helping develop the Raven Rock settlement.

For whatever reason, I just didn't enjoy the frozen landscape, and thought it was relatively boring and mundane compared to the rest of the game (I felt the same about the bland depiction of Cyrodiil, but thought it at least had enormous potential due to political, economic, and military possibilities which were never realized). I didn't complete the BM expansion's MQ, never felt any urge to play a Werewolf, and don't intend to go back again to do so, even though I still load up MW and the TR maps fairly often. I'm definitely not looking forward to an entire game being centered in a Nordic climate for TES V; hopefully Bethesda will tackle Black Marsh, Elsweyr, or Valenwood next, although I wouldn't object to the Sommerset Isles or Hammerfell either. Come to think of it, I think I'd enjoy anyplace BUT Skyrim.....

So, what say you?

(I remade this thread to include the poll that got lost)

I say, I take offense! You N'wah!

Seriously though, I picked Vvardenfell mainly because of how huge it is. I'm pretty sure I've still not explored every nook and cranny. Don't get me wrong though. The Nords are my second favorite race ( only to the Dunmer ) and I'm a huge geek for norse mythology. So, this was a very tough choice for me.

Spoiler
I was actually sad when people started calling me the "nerevarine" instead of outlander

I prefer the style and general feel of Solstheim, but if I had to stay on only one island...it'd be Vvardenfell, definitely. There's just a lot more to do, many places to explore, quests, factions, etc. Solstheim just doesn't have the bulk of content that Vvardenfell offers, and so it wouldn't be as interesting for as long a period of time. I'm also sure I've missed exploring a few places on Vvardenfell. I only found the Fat Lute for the first time around a month ago, and have been playing Morrowind for years.

Solstheim definitely. The very minute that expansion was added I took the first longboat out, and with exception of the responsibilities of a hero, I made it my character's home.

I love the cold, and all things Nordic and Scandinavian inspired. The homes were a treat.

That's why I added many of the other remote ice and snow mods, like the Lokken, Solstheim Castle, and the Morningstar Islands. If one ever wants to feel that cold, isolation of an arctic version of the Wilderness, the Morningstar Islands is just that.

Mirocu, I don't know how you could do this to me.

If I HAD to pick one or the other to live on for the rest of my life? I'd love Vvardenfell because it's so alien and the Dunmer are my favourite race.
But Solstheim, oh hell. I want to live in Scandinavia irl, and the people on Solstheim are win. Nords are my second favourite race >.<

I think I'd go Vvardenfell though. It's bigger and I could be with my brothers from House Telvanni.

I do love Solstheim. but Vvardenfell will always be home. Seriously, if there's one place in a videogame that has transended the virtual boundries and become as close to a real place as possible in my mind, it's Vvardenfell.
