Waalx animals creatures error .kf not found

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:51 am

I have tried now unsuccesfully for a few months to contact Waalx who brought out those excellent creatures as I want to add some into the Mesogea mod. I have decided to press ahead with the dozen or so creatures and animals I would like to use in the mod and just credit them to Waalx with a link etc.

The difficulty I have hit is that some of the creatures are a single .nif file that contain the entire creature that is otherwise made of several nif files, such as head, body etc. All works fine in game and there are no problems except that every time I try to view the creature in the CS either in its placed state or in the preview screen of the creature editing box I get repeated errors saying. .kf file not found. I can shut the errors down totally just clicking "yes to all" that basically shuts the error reporting up, but I want the mod to be error free as far as possible so there must be something I am doing wrong.

The model list in the creature/animal edit box has a list of all the files but as I said some of these consist of only one file, not several. Generally the error is linked to the creatures head, as soon as it is unchecked in the model list, the errors flood in. Any ideas? because I cant have creatures with more than one head.

IIRC it is a fairly common thing with added creatures since in the original game the heads were created differently (I believe using Facegen) using the morphs etc. and most added creatures do not have them so the animations give the errors in the CS about the missing .kf files but in game all works fine (the heads just move with the rest of the body without morphs (like opening of the mouth when biting etc.) So your mod should be fine using them as is even though in the CS you get those errors.

Thanks, I will use them then. I had considered removing them all. Now I just need to let Waalx know and get permission.

It's unfinished, but the beta is available at http://waalx.com/RealSwordsForum/index.php.

As far as I know, it's still intended to be available only on his site, except for mods that use a selection of some of the animals with his permission. The Elsweyr team linked to his site if you want the extra animals.

Ive sent another PM to Waalx asking to use some of the creatures. Taking a while to get a reply. Any idea who over at Elsweyr obtained permission or a thread concerning that, I need to get a move on with this as I want to release another update of the Mesogea mod.

I'm pretty sure that Telyn was referring tohttp://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35817 In that case there is no 'Elsweyr team', it's Iliana's Elsweyr, Waalx's WAC and there's me who created the patch. So no permissions were required there.

However, I'm sure that Waalx gave his permission to Black Marsh team. So, I guess that he's just busy or something.

He's also been pretty clear in the past that nothing gets redistributed at this stage, though with over 100 pages in the main WAC thread, I don't much feel like trying to find the exact post(s) at this point. The last thing I recall him saying was that mods would need to be made dependant on the WAC esm. I'm not sure whether his general position has changed since that, but I don't remember seeing anything from him to the contrary. Perhaps others who frequent the Realswords board remember something more recent...
