Fallout 3 didn't have true iron sights at all, you needed to use a mod. You could zoom a bit, but there were no actual iron sights.

New Vegas did....

Also aiming down the barrel is using iron sights, I can't help but wondering what you mean by them being "limited".

Just believe me when I'm telling you, the display of the iron sight, or how you'd named it barrel, is exactly the same as in FO3. Some had iron sights, but limited aka not correctly displayed. Some had scopes, others didn't had any sights whatsoever, and then there where weapons like pistols that only zoomed in 45° to aim from the side of the gun. The same is displayed in the videos...

I don't see how ~50% of the guns not having correct aim is nitpicky.

If you need to verify that ALL guns have iron sights before you preorder... well, you won't be preordering. 0% chance they'l release details/video including every gun in the game and it's functions of zoomed vs not zoomed. You'll just have to wait for someone to compile more of a list that includes screenshots of them using the gun during that game. Don't see why aiming down the barrel wouldn't be included as it was a huge improvement in NV. But ok lol whatever sinks your ship

Yeah, you'll be able to aim down the barrel for any gun (save the Minigun/Rocket Launcher types), but whether or not there are dedicated sights on the gun depends I guess on if you mod them. But it seems like every gun has a default "Standard Sights" for the Sights mod slot - I don't think any gun lacks sights outright.

yeah he is right u wont get anything in the 1 and a half week left for release so u wont be pre-order it.

I get what u want with iron sights but since is a game where most weapon are fantasy not having a iron sight isnt something they missing.

Plus have fate since they hire ppl from shooter to improve combat they probably fix a lot of that from F3, and i didnt see in any video where the aim from the gun is at 45 degrees

Sure it's essential for me. Last game I've played without iron sights was Half Life 2, and how long is that ago? I'd feel naked without correct iron sight display on all guns.

Can we say modifie when speaking of modifying the guns, so we do not confuse it with modding the game... :D

Well if that's true. So the iron sights are a modification parts?

Edit: It's as easy as just one of the devs or mods with profound knowledge stepping in and saying, "don't get all wuzzy, the game has iron sights". If I hear that I could sleep well and preorder... :D

I always found it a little weird that energy weapons had iron sights in NV honestly. I mean it makes sense, but I always found it a little off putting. Sawed off's have more of "iron sight" than iron sights, but I get the point. Can't wait for these two weeks to pass already!

1.) What exactly do you mean by limited?

2.) Depending on modifications and base designs, it would make sense if some guns did not have traditional iron sights.

Also, hip firing is a choice you can make when shooting enemies. Just like how the player was hip firing on the Sentry Bot with a scoped rifle. I feel that you are getting a bit too nitpicky with this game.

Why on Earth would the absence of iron sights for some weapons be a complete dealbreaker for you?

Fallout 3 did not have iron sights! Scoped weapons sure, but none of them had iron sights.

He probably didn't play Fallout 3 until it had an iron sight mod... which you can do here to if you like.

I guess the full weapon list must have been released. Otherwise, I have no idea how you came to the conclusion that 50 percent of the guns in the game cannot be "aimed correctly" with.

Yeah Fallout 3 was just a zoom there were no iron sights. We've already seen them using iron sights in the trailer. So..... what's the problem? Cuz I still don't get it....

FO3 had iron sights. Problem was the zoom was only going half way in, so you basically aimed with your cross hair and from the side of the gun, that's what I mean with limited. Some guns also aimed from behind the iron sight, but to far away to make a realistic display of iron sight aiming. That's exactly what I'm seeing in the FO4 videos for those guns that aim via iron sights. You'd need to be much closer. Get my point? Anyone over here ever fired a real gun?

I'm basing this on the imression of playing vanilla FO3 and having seen in the videos of FO4 exactly what I remember from playing vanilla FO3.

Lulz. Reason your notion. I guess you weren't even around here by that time, given your post count...

Yeah, plenty of communication confusion in this thread. Most of the time I see people say "iron sights" when referring to a game, they're just talking about the ability to aim down the barrel. Not the actual metal bits on the gun. And they're not referring to scoped weapons (which have always been their own thing, as far as I thought.... plenty of games that didn't have ADB, but did have scoped weapons.)

edit: and honestly, I usually prefer FO3-style zoom & crosshair, at least in games with bulky guns. Doing the ADB thing just blocks so much of the screen.

No, nothing you are saying makes any sense. They have clearly shown that all guns have iron sights.

What on earth are you talking about? The aiming system is nothing like FO3.

What you do in Fallout 3 wouldn't be called iron sights. The player character in the Fallout 4 gameplay is clearly using iron sights, lining up the front an back sight in front of the camera.

Realistically, placing your eyes and face too close to gun sights can actually be a hazard. Not to mention that stocks can increase the distance between you and your weapon. This isn't like Call of Duty where you can mash your face up against your sights.

There were certainly guns that had iron sights on them, but you could not use any of them functionally. I can't think of a single non-scoped gun that you could aim down the barrel in FO3, unless you can provide an actual example.

So yes, there were technically iron sights but they were non-functional. Usually when people refer to iron sights in video games they are referring to functional sights (aiming down the barrel), by this measure FO3 had no iron sights.

Funny story: last week I was finally finishing HL2 for the first time (I know...) and I figured I'd google if there were any iron sights mods for the game. There were, rolled into larger gameplay overhauls (so I didn't touch any mods), but I was bombarded with a bunch of forum threads just utterly crapping on the concept of iron-sights. I mean, these guys were pissed at the mere mention of iron-sights in Half-Life. I thought it was a little silly. (I also found it a little weird when I realized that none of the Half-Life games have just a regular rifle)

Honestly, I love the Half-Life games more for their level design than for their gunplay.

I didn't like iron sights in New Vegas. Was I using them wrong? I feel like I could never hit anything when I tried using the iron sights.
