Wait, did I just figured there are no Iron Sights...again?!?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:07 pm

Guess the question was answered. I just hope those weapon part mods with customizable iron sights for all guns is true. If not, I'll drop this game like a hot potatoe until a modder fixed that.

I guess in order to understand why that is so important to me, you must have fired a real gun yourself. You do not fire guns from your hip like some hitman internets skillor, or aimless Rambo on limitless bullets, or hold it far away from your eyes. You actually really want to use those aims to be capable of hitting something. And yes, that slight detail of realism , imho, is very important in modern shooters. If I want straight down fast paced action, I go play Unreal Tournament or similar.

Fallout does a damn good job in simulating/emulating a realistic display of a preapocalyptic world, and I didn't want it to miss this little, but very important detail.

Are at least hunger, sleep and thirst confirmed? What about hypothermia?

Umm... it showed up in the E3 presentation.

Also, so-called "iron sights" actually stinks when it simply blocks the view of the target (something that was usually the case in FONV). It certainly is not wanted for any RPG, of course, since outcomes are dependent on character ability, not player twitch reflexes. "Correct aim" in an RPG means "choose target and see if character skill is sufficient to hit as well as see how effective the hit is if a hit is made", not "choose target and see if player twitch reflexes are sufficient to hit."

BGS does not make "modern shooters" nor is Fallout a shooter (nor will it ever be one... or I seriously doubt it ever will since doing so would cost it the vast majority of its player base).

You must be confusing an RPG with an FPS like COD. Two different genres, two different play mechanics.

But this is not Fallout 3. Not to mention that much of the guns revealed in the Fallout 4 gameplay videos showed proper aiming with sights (either iron or scoped).

Ohhhhh ok. I see what you're saying. I think people are confusing you because you're so adement on Fallout 3 having iron sights that you kind of neglect that you can't even [censored] use them. OP wants bits of metal on the end of every gun even if they aren't useful. Got it. /thread

Can someone snap shot the literal dozens of Iron sights that have been shown so the op can try to explain what his problem with them are?

The fact that you said the last game you played without iron sights was half life 2....

This thread hurts my brain. You can look down the sights of all guns so I have no idea what op is talking about.

Having functional iron sights does not preclude a game from being an RPG... we've already seen it's pretty stat heavy and offers lots of character choices - so it's an RPG regardless of how good a shooter it also is.

His problem is that he's caring about the actual metal bits welded to the gun barrel (i.e, "an accurate representation of sights on the gun"), rather than the game mechanic of aiming down the gun (what most people mean by "iron sights").

But Half-Life 2 had those, didn't it? You just couldn't aim down the barrel. >.>

You're wrong... I'm talking about the aim.

You can look down the sights of three guns out of how many? 12 or 13 different displayed guns in the video?

There's a lot of displays of the pistols and laser weapons in diverse videos on youtubem and non of them had iron sight aiming, so? They knew that this was important to many players, as the RH iron sights Mod for FO3 was one of the most used ever. How can they not correctly inform us about this detail? They want me to preorder...please correctly inform me. I do no longer base game acquisition on chance.

...to what you see in the videos. If you can't tell the difference then I'm obviously the only one having a appropriate eye for detail, probably because I'm a huge longtime really devoted fan of the franchise...

Very confusing thread.

Only thing I'm even slightly worried about in regards to iron sights is the way the iron sights for the Sawed-off Shotgun seemed to be a bit unrealistic. The sight is sort of halfway between "off the hip" and "iron sights", as though you're looking from an angle above the shotgun (or as if the shotgun is angled upwards). Hope that makes sense, and I hope it isn't that way for any other guns. But only a minor gripe.

I also hope that all weapons have iron sights, unlike in New Vegas where they didn't give them to Laser Rifles for some reason.

Man, you're the first one that exactly notices what I did. And now to repeat myself. It was exactly the same in FO3. Yes, there are iron sights, yes the video shows iron sights, but no it can't follow that all guns have them, just because I know it was the same in FO3. I'm afraid they've enabled proper aiming for some guns, but not all, and even if they did, the aiming looks way out of proportion. Is it so hard to follow what I'm saying, or are users just ignoring because they can't stand any critic of the game?

There were no iron sights in FO3 at all, I think you might mean New Vegas?

And yeah I understand your concerns (as I have some of them!), but for the most part I think the iron sights look fine and not out of proportion. It was only really the Sawed-off Shotgun that raised the alarm to me; the rest looked fine.

Proper aiming was somehow enabled in FO3 (I refer to it as iron sights for easy argumentation), but you had to modifie certain meshes and scripts to probarly apply it to all guns. Some of the guns where easily adjustable to allow for iron sighting by just improving the zoom factor on that gun. That's why I'm saying there was iron sighting on FO3, just not probarly enabled...

And right now I'm witnessing the same for FO4.

Again, it's just as easy as one of the devs or mods with profound knowledge steps in and say:"Don't get wuzzy, iron sights are in for all guns".

I can guarantee that you're wrong, and that Fo4 will have full ADS (aim down sight) functionality. They harped on about improving the gun mechanics and bringing in guys from Bungie to help out with it. You don't need to stretch your imagination to believe that they added ADS after the criticism they received from the last game. They pay attention to mods like the iron sight mod for Fo3, and even FNV had ADS functionality on most guns (miniguns naturally don't need ADS).

Time will tell. Devs aren't going to come out of the woodwork and assuage your concern over ADS. If it helps, you can make a twitter account and message Pete and hope he answers you - maybe you'll get lucky.

If you're still hesitant, don't pre-order. Bethesda isn't going to toss and turn over it in their sleep and the general community isn't either.

Why must every gamer who games on a console, be stereotyped into some belittling label? I sometimes game on PC myself though those type of accusations really gives PC gamers a bad look.

I don't understand why the OP is ignoring the fact that we've known the guns to have iron sights since the E3 presentation. Baffled.

Mate, this thread is confusing enough as it is; don't start using your own particular idioms and expect everyone to understand what you're talking about.

You went from claiming in the OP that there was no ADS footage whatsoever (only scopes), which is patently untrue, to worrying that only some guns have ADS. But why would BGS, which at the very start of the e3 demo makes it very clear that they're very picky about details, implement ADS for certain weapons, but force you to use crosshairs for others, a la FO3? Particularly when in that same e3 demo you can see that different ironsights can be attached to your weapons. Why? Give me one good reason, so maybe we can start having an actual discussion.

Please, just stop accusing Mofakin of being a troll. He is not. To answer the OP: No one can answer that untill played the game (or being a developer). Do not preorder, wait either for an answer some time after the release or for the release of GECK +month or more. I hope you will get the game to the shape you want, good luck :icecream:

Stop patronizing people who don't agree with you. If you really were old enough for this statement to be true, you should start acting like a grown up instead of belittling people.

I played Fallout when it came out (although I was to young back then, really) and played every single installment since (skipped Brotherhood of Steel though, because it was shot...and I am one of the few people who actually liked the design of the Deathclaws in Tactics). Fallout, for me, is about tone and setting, not about if I can aim down the sights of a gun or not. Fallout is a RPG, not a modern shooter. I would actually prefer if aiming wasn't even a thing in Fallout. The character's skill should decide if the enemy was hit, not my reflexes. But Bethesda didn't do skill based hit calculation since Morrowind, so that ship has sailed. And many people like the more immediate experience. But since my preferred playstyle in Fallout includes a Powerfist to the face, this is not so much a concern for me anyway.
