http://www.imperial-library.info/content/skyrim-map you linked us to only has one more town than Oblivion. It's really not that much to ask.

Oblivion was bigger than Morrowind, but it didn't feel like it. Mostly because Cyrodiil was bowl-shaped and incredibly easy to travel through. I have a good feeling that mountainous Skyrim will remedy that.

You'll notice I never said they were very good at following lore :whistling:

Very true. If you enable Morrowind with all the high-res texture packs, you will see how small it really is. It was just MUCH more difficult to get around. Cyrodil is much easier to travel in.

And Beth doesn't need to follow established lore, imo. They MAKE the lore. I wouldn't mind them changing the lore of Skyrim, to make a better and more diverse game. Although I assume it will be snowy. :)

Interesting, I didn't realize that Oblivion was larger than Morrowind, I feel rather stupid now XD and if you don't believe that they were good at following lore, what makes you think they'll put in all the cities and towns that are supposed to be in Skyrim?

Eight cities in skyrim and what I see in the trailer most likely one of those cites is destroyed by the dragons maybe. Anyhow there must be few towns somewhere in the map.

I would much rather have a few large cities than several small villages.

But I would rather they made the game in half or even a smaller part of the region so they dont cut any villages and towns and can keep up the quality and size of each.

Meh, blind faith mostly. I would like to think they don't want to pull another huge mistake like the jungle, or Sutch, again.

Hmmm..... A province of the world dominated by a handful of large cities, in which one of them is destroyed by super-powerful beings, effectively beginning a war? Where have I heard that plot before.... :P

All sarcasm aside, your prediction all hinges on the idea that dragons are evil, but unless we go off the idea that these aren't the historical intelligent dragons of Tamriel, then I suppose thats a good prediction.

Who knows, maybe we've got it all backwards, maybe we're playing as dragons this time around, trying to reclaim the homeland from the evil forces of man :P

Sutch.

Was never in any previous lore. The imperials couldn't of built a city in 6 years.

Cyrodiil: Nine Cities
Skyrim: Eight.
Granted, Kvatch was destroyed in Oblivion, but then thats still the same amount of cities. I'm pretty sure Bethesda will include better villages and all this time. Even so, its not unlike them to create an amazing, extensive world.

As long as the cities in the game flow well. I don't want closed cities, like in OB.

Open cities, and I will be fine.

From what we gather from the triler, there will be a war happening. Skyrim is a nation of fighting, so it would make sense to have closed cities to protect from invading forces.

We want no loading between wilderness and city. They can be gated and walled though.

Really? Cuz I count at least 9 major cities there

I seriously doubt that Skyrim has even 5 settlements that could be called "cities", townships and hamlets more likely with maybe 3 or 4 only qualifying as cities. Of course I'm assuming based on the descriptions of the region from previous games. I'm expecting more NPCs but in medium sized towns mostly, with about 3 cities that are more to scale than what we saw in Oblivion and Morrowind.

But if the cities are as extensive as everyone wants them to be, there will have to be loading screens and such, unfortunately.

I just hope those cities will feel like true cities, where one can actually spend some time and do a couple of quests without having to leave the city. I liked that about Morrowind - although the quests were rather small, most of the guilds had quests that took place in the same city they were given to you. Or at least in a village close-by. It made the world larger, in a way, to be able to spend so much time in the game without even seeing the rest of the world. It's the Balmora effect... many players actually got stuck there, and it became their favorite town simply because it was the first one they encountered, and there was so much to do!

So yeah, that's what I want. And personally, I'd love it if there was a Thieves Guild in every major city, with their own fences. I can understand that Fighters Guild and Mages Guild would give out quests on a more global scale, but a Thieves Guild should mainly concern itself with local business, and shouldn't make you go to a completely different city in order to sell your loot (higher ranks are an exception of course, because the higher the rank, the more political and influential your thievery should become... gosh I'm so Morrowind-influenced)

While I agree with people's claims that TES5 could possibly be smaller than previous games, you have to consider that they've had 2 years to plan this out, 6 months years of minimal development, and 2 more years of actual development.
The game is probably already playable, just not full yet.

I used to love The Elderscrolls. But 11.11.11 as the release date? Thats nearly 6 years after TES4 was released. IMO all that waiting for the next TES game to be released in Skyrim, is a huge dissappointment. No doubt the graphics will be great, and the engine spectacular; but how about we leave the fantasy "jar of mayonnaise". We've already been to High Rock, Cyrodil, and the boarder regions of Skyrim (Bruma, Solstheim). We know the feel. Nordic arcitecture, snow everywhere, draugrs... We have yet to truly play a game (ARENA aside) in Valenwood, Black Marsh, Elsweyr, or Summerset Isles.

To end this, I cant say that Im surprised. When in the business of selling games, you have to make decisions that will generate the most revenue for your company. Skyrim would be a safer choice for bethesda seeing as how its average customer could play TES4 or TES5, look around and see alot of people who resemble themselves and feel somewhat at home. Whereas in Black Marsh for instance the player would mainly see an "enemy" race of "hostile" reptilians...

-snip-

You really think that Bethesda would be stupid enough to make an entire province snowy and bland? They aren't ones to make games look he same everywhere.
And you seem to have forgotten that the game was announced less than 24 hours ago. 11.11.11 isn't very far away, its the shortest amount of time between announcement and release.

People keep talking about this in present tense.

They've more than likely made up their minds by now. & put into practice their decisions.

It's a new engine and this means better things to come. So if it's entirely new and not the garbage Gamebyro then expect to see more cities/towns and more NPCs.

Who are you? Bob Kotick?

I trust Bethesda to have enough passion in the series to do the right thing.

I have to agree entirely with this, heck I just finished my game deign degree and the final was to as a group create a video game, we build the engine and then add content so you could wander the maps but there was nothing but floor. I have to say they already have the quests written, they just need to copypasta them over to the quest items and prefect dialogue, etc.

"jar of mayonnaise", had to think about that for a second...but I believe they are going to change something on us, like volcanic springs that heat up a lot of the area or something because the "jar of mayonnaise" would be boring to even create let alone play so expect to be surprised at what they come up with (maybe magical heating or something).

Edit: I also look forward to an eventuall Black Marsh game, see as even in the lore(http://www.imperial-library.info/content/pocket-guide-empire-third-edition-war-trees-argonia-and-black-marsh), it hasn't been fully explored by anyone but the Argonian and just as dangerous.

The original Nord settlements were generally established on rocky crags overlooking a river valley; many of these villages still survive in the more isolated Holds, especially along the Morrowind frontier. In most of Skyrim, however, this defensive posture was deemed unnecessary by the mid-first era, and most cities and towns today lie on the valley floors, in some cases still overlooked by the picturesque ruins of the earlier settlement.
(from The Imperial Library)

I'd be amazed to see cliff-side dwellings, abandoned or not. I think things like that could make this game extra special.
I'd also like to see a number of big cities, but I think in accordance with Scandanavian kinda' living there should be lots more little villages.

yes. yes i do. Bloodmoon anybody? When I played Bloodmoon, i liked it partly because it was something new. All the snow, and nordic influence. Now its just plain played out. The only difference is that im 21 now instead of 13 when i first played it...

yes it was less than 24 hours ago. 11.11.11 is nearly a full year from now, which isnt bad but 6 years for the next installment of TES? Keep making excused for them and wait til 2021 for TES 6 if it comes out at all..
