Skyrim has an overwhelming crap ton of cities and towns. And now that they're making a game there, I have the inkling most of those towns and villages are going to go away in favor of just having five or so big cities.

Does thay bother anyone else?

No!

As in "No! That is NOT going to happen!", not "No, that doesn't bother me".

Maybe it won't be the entire province, similar to how Morrowind didn't cover all of Morrowind.

We dont know if they will remove any of the cities... So there is no idea raging over that yet, imho.

Hopefully they don't do this. Oblivion and Fallout 3 both upset me due to the lack of diverse towns. I don't mind if some are smaller and less fleshed out, but I still want a lot. Something more like Morrowind or Fallout New Vegas (I thought new vegas did a great job of having lots of towns but still making them interesting).

If there's anything people can agree on about Bethesda, it's that they make some of the best sandbox games out there. I really, really doubt Bethesda would ruin the quality of their sandbox by not giving us the cities-and-ruins-and-dungeons-packed Skyrim we've seen in lore.

Not to mention the Labyrinthian. One wonders if it's going to be present.

I REALLY can't think of a way to justify that. In Morrowind there at least was a geographical boundary that always was there, not made for the purposes of the game. In Skyrim? There really isn't any large sort of isolated areas.

I would not want to see another Arefu

Where there's like four houses and a few people then they call it a town and give it a map marker like it's a major location or something.

But at the same time I would like to see more towns with more people.

A new engine means new possibilities, so there really is no way to guess at the power of this new tech until we've seen it in action. I'm sure they'll figure it out one way or another. :)

I'm not even sure what you're talking about. Skyrim only has 6 notable "cities". At least that's what I've read.

Let's remember, they removed Sutch from Oblivion. Whats to say they won't make cutbacks in this?

Its difficult for that to bother me, since the only reason that it may happen like that is because there may to much content. Its Bethesda, give them some credit.

http://www.imperial-library.info/content/skyrim-map

According to this 'official' map of Skyrim, there would be a decent amount of "major" cities, and likely many smaller towns and villages in between. Remember, because of the use of the new engine, cities could very well be seamlessly integrated into the landscape like Morrowind, which would make for an overall different feel to cities, no matter how many of them there turn out to be.

Even If they do implement all of the cities and towns, I have a gut feeling that many resources will be recycled and reused.

Im crossing my fingers here.

On the other hand, I hope to see MANY NPCs out on the streets. Oblivion and Morrowind were all mostly ghost towns.

Take cities from Assassin's creed for example.

Seeing as how the general trend of BGS is to shrink the game world as time progresses, I doubt the number of towns, or even the map size for that matter, will be overwhelming.

While I agree with you on Bethesda making wonderful sandbox games, correct me if I'm wrong, but according to lore, shouldn't Cyrodiil have been a dense jungle-like area?

there will have to be some sort of balance, I hope it doesn't come down to like some major cities and a hundred copypasta Arefu all over the place.

No, your inkling doesn't bother me.

I understand we are just one day into the announcement so we'll have much too panic over the next 11 months as to what Bethesda will do to butcher our expectations.

Oblivion was bigger than Morrowind, but it didn't feel like it. Mostly because Cyrodiil was bowl-shaped and incredibly easy to travel through. I have a good feeling that mountainous Skyrim will remedy that.

I'd like to see a bit more settlements and farming communities scattered across the landscape, as opposed to just a few large towns. Sure nice wide open spaces are fun to look at, but adding smaller communities would definitely add to the feel of the region as a populated land.
