Wait, this game won't have immersion-breaking achievements w

Are there going to be little Steam notifications that pop up in the corner?

That's going to be really annoying.

How do acheivements break Immersion? It's not like there's an over-excited American man yelling "YOU JUST KILLED YOUR FIRST DRAAAGOOON!!" with flashy lights and confetti appearing on the screen. =D

I hope they have a wide range of achievements in Skyrim such as accumulating a certain amount of gold. Unlike in Oblivion where your only achievements came from quests.

Of course achievements will be in but I don't think it breaks immersion IMO.

im not a big achievement person. theres just no reward for them other than a computer telling you "good job!" i can tell myself that if i wanted to and i know when i've achieved something i want to achieve. don't need something tell me i did it.

Huh, I thought there was a way to disable the Steam interface, which would remove all Steam pop-ups, but I don't see this option in the Settings.

Are "acheivements" some kind of console thing?

Xbox started it, followed by 'Trophies' for PS3, now Steam has them.

Joy.

These horrible and pointless things seem to be a requirement for any game released these days.
I dont like em, I dont want them in my game and I agree they break immersion.

But what can you do?
Sigh.

Nope. It's spread onto the master race gaming system: PC.
Near the end of 2012 your PC's will be complete replicas of consoles.

Anyway, breaks immersion?
Really?
I absolutely loathe that word... "immersion"...
It's being thrown around way too much and people seem to want realistic simulations more than they want games. :sadvaultboy:

The pop-ups don't bother me and I don't think I ever get so immersed in a game that something like that would ruin the experience. If anything, achievements help me to stick with a game longer than normal because it inevitably becomes a challenge to me.

How come you have to turn things OFF in Steam? It's an annoying f****g 3rd party programme, and you should never have to turn things OFF. Only ON if you really wanted them. It's like spam mail, you have to unsubscribe even tho you never wanted to subscribe in the first place. Hate that piece of s**t!

(Feel slightly better now, thanks).

Well it is used too much here, but in this case its certainly apt.
Yes, it breaks immersion when I am happily roleplaying along all excited and proud about something..
and up pops a message with a little jingle telling me what I already know and patting me on the back.
Totally taking me out of my role by crashing me right back into a 'gamey' feel.

As annoying as any machine that beeps at you to tell you what you already know really.
That is a big pet peeve of mine, machines that beep at you. Bane of the modern age.
But thats another story.

If it's anything like Xbox you can turn your notifications off which will stop all pop ups.

I don't really get them at all in single-player games. Sure, it's fun to get an achievment for a 30 minute killing spree in an online shooter to hold as proof, but for killing a dragon in skyrim? Who gives a [censored]?

Hmm, get as many achievements as possible and then roleplay on the 2nd playthrough? (No pop-ups if you got them all the first time around.)

Achievements are a way of recording progress through a game. They can provide challenges and act as 'medals', I mean who wouldn't want a medal saying 'I killed a dragon with my bare fists!'

Either go Steam > Settings > In-Game, and untick Enable Steam Community In-Game for all your games. Or you can Right Click a specific game go to Properties and untick Steam Community for games individually.
