I walk and move WAY too fast

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:29 am

Hey,

I'm playing Daggerfall with DOSBox and it's working well, so far, with one exception: my character walks and moves way too fast. It seems almost to get worse as the game goes on. Is there any setting on DOSBox I might be able to use to slow him down just a bit?

Did you pressed 1 by accident perhaps?

I think it has something to do with cheats.

At least i noticed, that pressing 1 make me move like Flash.
Pressing again return speed to normal.

Or you may have cycles set to max and max equalling a very high number. Check your daggerfall.conf file

Humorguy:

Core dynamic, cycle up=1000 cycledown = 1000, in the daggerfall.conf file, is that what you mean, and if so, are the cycles too high? What should I set them at instead?

What exactly do you mean by too fast? When I first started playing I noticed it was faster than MW and OB, so it just may be a natural thing.

I hate to admit it, but you might be right. I just watch the latest DaggerXL movie, and he was moving real fast too. About as fast as I do. Maybe I'm just too used to trudging through Morrowind.

Yeah, it looks like you are moving rather fast when you are inside dungeons and whatnot, but outside I don't think is too bad.

I keep bumping into walls, and having trouble negotiating doors. In buildings I have to be careful not to just run past the person I want to talk to -- innkeeper or whatnot.

If you have the game in VIEW (if not ESCAPE then MOUSE then click in VIEW then click FULL SCREEN then check the new controls as you now have WASD movement and mouse look), then hit SHIFT to walk/sneak in VIEW Mode walk/sneak is 40% of 'normal; walking.

As to the cycles, you should have a CPU=Max or CPU=30000 or something under [CPU]. If it says MAX change it to 30000 and see if that helps. If it's not there at all then type it in

Also make the end of the conf like like below after your mount commands:

[autoexec]
mount (your current dagger path)
mount (your current cd path)
C:
cd/
cd dagger
FALL.EXE Z.cfg
exit

If you didn't have the game in VIEW mode, then open Z.cfg with notepad, and where it says 'Control' change what's there to viewplyr.dat

Correct, if you have cheats enabled, pressing 1 toggles super speed mode. Just beware that it affects enemies, too!
