Walk, don't run

Post » Sun Mar 23, 2014 7:05 am

Will you be setting a walk/run toggle in controls (CapsLock works well for me)? Will you spend time strolling along the roads and through the countryside in Tamriel like me, or will you spend your time running from one quest to another? Will you move slowly and stealthily through dungeons, cognizant that there might be a surprise waiting around each curve, behind each door, or will you race to get to the boss fight first? Will you stop and plan each attack with your group after scouting the situation, or will you all simply rush in and attack, hoping to overwhelm the enemy? If you see a stealthed player stalking a mob, will you watch and move on, or will you fire off a ranged attack to claim the kill as your own?

Please understand that I am not dissing anyone's playstyle; I am simply hoping to learn that there will be others who share mine. I understand that the kind of deliberate play found in the pencil and paper games would be possible only if your group has exclusive ownership of any given instance, and perhaps not even then, but I will be in the game for the long haul and my mindset will take that into account. I hope that there will be others who share my viewpoint, and I hope to find a way to meet them ingame. Any suggestions will be welcome.

be prepared to be sneaking "slowly and stealthily through dungeons, cognizant that there might be a ..blah blah blah" while others are barging past you aggroing all the mobs and stealing "your" treasure.

The very first thing I did with every beta character was keybind a walk/run toggle.

I'll walk while I'm hanging out in taverns, bars or crafting in town, but otherwise I'll either be on horseback or running.

This. I usually RP characters who have a good reason for hurrying where ever they go, if nowhere else than in their own mind. ;)

It's even better on horseback. Try it once you get a horse!

Quite relaxing to trot through the streets, while everyone else is just rushing by.

Also, if you play an Altmer, walking is a role-play must.

walk/run is the first thing i keybind in all games to the < key as i use walk in Taverns/Inn's/bars and a lot in towns too and even out in the world depending on what i do.
Also i use it in playermade rp events.
all in all i switch from walk and run a lot =)

Altmer can't run?

I agree with the horse walking, it's rather good; though I love do kicking my horse with a "Yeaah!" as I gallop off at speed.

Nope, i just don't find the game very immersive in a "i'm there" kind of way.

Though i noticed your character starts walking if you tap W in a certain rythm, which was kinda cool.

Phynaster, Hero-god of the Summerset Isles, who taught the Altmer how to naturally live another hundred years by using a shorter walking stride.

They can run and jump and everything, but will most likely not do it in a town and so because of the knowledge from phynaster.

If you see a stealthed player stalking a mob, will you watch and move on, or will you fire off a ranged attack to claim the kill as your own?

i will be going slow and doing everything i can to enjoy every second of eso

I saw an Altmer guard running in town, and he wasn't struck down by lightning.

I'm a fierce roleplayer and take it quite seriously; which is why I like to put myself in the shoes of my character and make them as unique as possible; and not running because you'll live longer sounds ridiculous, and like something not many would take seriously.

Yeah ofcourse.

Sounds ridiculous but is true in lore that they know this. Not saying anything on how to roleplay:) altmer train to become stronger and faster like everyone else.

Ill be running and sprinting. Wont read quest text, will level when in pve-land as fast as possible. Not interested in rp in the smallest amount, thats how the game is fun for me.

..and we roleplayers respect your wrong opinion.

I'm only kidding. To each their own; it's all about having fun.

Don't walk and don't run. Flee!

Seriously, I walk in towns but run in the wild.

I will do whatever I feel like, bro. I feel like walking, I will. I wanna run, I will run. I feel like crafting or questing, I will do one of those. I am gonna enjoy the ride.

I'm not hardcoe enough to walk, but I will be keeping my horse on the roads, and not barreling into the crafting tents and trampling everyone.

Interesting concept ralph - I surely will bind walk. Use it occasionally for sure

there is no true difference in calming the mind: You can look at a picture, stand in actual nature or enjoy a 3D scenary. I did this the first time in Azshara in WoW back in Vanilla and it was such a pleasant experience: The cliffs, the sunset, the autumn-like theme.. the wind.. truly beautiful and I can relate to why you would want to walk.

This comes from an individual meditating, contemplating about life and living on countryside since birth :)
