Walled Off Cities

Post » Fri Mar 25, 2011 6:09 am

This was one thing I didn't like about Oblivion, the walled off cities. They might have to do this again for technical reasons though. Here's hoping, however. :intergalactic:

I think the cities were described as huge and open
so I'd assume that means no walls

Most likely not interior cells.

Maybe some big cities.

Maybe all of the big ones.

but most likely none.

I'd love it if there were both walled off cities, AND cities out in the open. Also, it'd be absolutely amazing if entering a city didn't require a loading screen (which resulted in making it seperate from the outside world, lowering immersion). If you could actually watch the gates open when entering a city, and then walk in without it needing a load screen, that would be absolutely amazing.

However, I imagine it would be VERY hard on your computer/console if the game had to account for the entire huge outside world, AND all of the complexities going on in a city, all at the same time! But if it can be done, it would be an amazing feat.

They'll most likely be walled but open.

I mean, who builds a city without walls?

No Mysticism...
Unless they make it Alteration, but why not make on giant school of magic with a few small ones surrounding that.

But back on topic, I hope they have open cities, and Im pretty sure they will.

Didn't mind loading to enter a city, the constant ' loading area' walking around them was the real problem for me. But open would be cool. Who builds a city without walls? Guys at the top of a frozen mountain, if anyone.

I don't think so, if you look at that pic of the city in todays hub update, it just looks to big to be waled off, in Oblivion the height of cities varied by only a small bit because they didn't want you to see over the wall, that one looks like you'll be able to see for miles out.

With all the talk of their technology, I sincerely believe that cities will be open. I think they've got it down properly enough that they can have cities be open and not cause the game to slow down (whether you be inside the city or outside of it).

Hopefully that, and the mention of valleys and mountains, means that we got levitation back. I would very much like that.

Yes, if they were walled off like they were in daggerfall and you could climb/levitate over the walls. And if the gates were closed at night. That would be cool. I loved coming to a closed up city in Daggerfall at night and scaling the wall or levitating over it and sneaking into the city.

Levitation was an Alteration Spell

and to my knowledge all Mysticism spells are still there but they'll be put into the other five schools now

I think it was acceptable that the Imperial City was walled. However, for most of the other cities the walls limited the view too much and made all the towns look the same and generic. Espcially Bravil, where there is such a collosal wall and fort, yet most of the houses are squalid.
