Walmart gipped me?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:48 pm

By definition: pre-order is an order placed for an item which has not yet been released. The idea for pre-orders came when people found it hard to get popular items in stores due to their popularity. Companies were then given the idea to allow people to reserve their own personal copy, before the release, which has been a huge success. Pre-orders allow consumers to guarantee prompt delivery on release, manufacturers can gauge how much demand there will be and hence how large initial production runs should be, and sellers can be assured of minimum sales. Additionally, high pre-order rates can be used to generate publicity to further increase sales.

They just can't cancel it. If you bring this up to the store manager, and they still refuse you a copy call the Headquarters and cite this, and if they still refuse to give you the preorder? You'd have a grounded base for a civil courts claim, because YOU did pay already for it with either YOUR, or YOUR parents money, and they cannot just say "thanks for the money! *YOINK*"

Well he hasn't quite paid for it yet, they actually charge you AFTER the game ships. (I am assuming that this is an online transaction) If he pre-ordered in store, then he would have paid about 5 or so dollars to reserve, and once the game comes out he can pay the rest of it. For some reason it sounds like the pre-order was canceled, so for one, he won't be charged on the credit card, and second, he can go get the reserve money back if he did it in-store. But most likely the canceled pre-order is caused by a now unusable credit card. I don't think Walmart is out trying to "gip" him.

I contacted Walmart after seeing this thread, and this is what i was told
As specified on the Walmart.com item page, Brink w/ Exclusive The Spec Ops Pack (PC) is being sold as a preorder. The release date for this item is May 17, 2011. We will ship the item to you promptly after it has been released. Your credit card will not be billed until the item is shipped.

They apparently haven't been informed of the new release date yet.

but how could it be an issue with credit card if they only bill on the 10th? further more it was labeled a "supply issue" so that still doesn't make sense , a supply issue is running out of the supply right? so how do you run out of a pre-ordered item that was reserved 3 months ago? thnx again for all the concern and help.

yes it was online with credit -360- in February for my birthday :( it said it was already reserved and everything was good :user: , now on the last month they're saying they've a supply issue. :brokencomputer:

As you can see from http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1179171-brink-release-date-moved-up/page__view__findpost__p__17457343, they know. Their Brink page is updated to the correct date also.

EDIT:

Call customer support, cancel your order, then re-order. They obviously haven't run out since I ordered six days ago with no issues, so that's probably your best option.

is this possible? says they don't have enough in supply that there's a supply issue, how is it possible too run outta supply with a game i pre-ordered and hasn't even been released?
so my question is mainly this, should i just go somewhere else or is it just gonna delay my pre-order bonus,i mean am i gonna lose my bonus entirely or, what?

if this is locked for some reason and your reading this pls IM me with answer, if there isn't one already.

That's why I get everything from Gamestop! ^^ (I only get my games from them because they're close, and they're HQ is like an hour away from me! =D, I go local lol!)

Wal-mart, it's cheap because they jip you at every turn. Seriously, they tried to tell me a 3 year old game was brand new and that "I was missing out". It's like legal theft. Forget about wal-mart and buy from Steam, Amazon, or Gamestop.

And Gamestop doesn't? Their employees would tell you that the tooth fairy exists if it would convince to buy a game used.

I'll even give you an example: I bought Bad Company 2 two months after it came out. I knew about the VIP code all new copies came with (and I just feel safer buying my games new), but I asked the clerk whether the code would still come with a new copy two months after the game's release just to see what he would say. Generally I expect Gamestop's employees to used games, as that's how they make their money, but I didn't think they would outright lie to me. However, when I asked, the clerk plainly told me "no." Not "I doubt it" or "I've heard they don't" but a decisive "NO." I even asked him if he was completely sure, and he replied that there wasn't a doubt in his mind. When I told him I still wanted to buy new, he made me listen to preach about how important it was that I save $5 buying used not once, not twice, but three times before actually going to get the damn game from the back. And guess what? The VIP code was still included, as it claimed on the box (something I had pointed out to the clerk, and yet he still claimed to be completely sure).

That was the last game I bought from Gamestop.

As for what happened to you, Walmart isn't completely focused on games like Gamestop is. It's likely that the clerk you spoke with was simply misinformed, or that by "brand new" he meant unused.

EDIT:

Also, on a completely unrelated note,

...they jip you...

1. The game was 3 years old and he was trying to tell me it was new and tried to sell it for 60$
2. I usually read the most recent post only.

1. Then he probably was either misinformed, or it was a pretty popular game (such as Call of Duty 4). Pretty sure that game stayed $60 until (hell, maybe even a little after) the release of Modern Warfare 2, two years later.

Meh, now it just sounds like I'm a Walmart really devoted really devoted fan or something (I use Amazon.com WAY more, just they don't have Release Date delivery for Brink... yet). Maybe I am wrong (which would mean the clerk would have to manually enter a price for the game if he was seriously trying to screw you, so if anything it's probably that their prices hadn't adjusted for a price drop yet, which happens in retail), but I still feel Gamestop is by far the greater evil.

Also, out of curiosity - What game was it?

2. Tsk tsk, knowledge is power!

1. I'm not familiar enough with Tribes (read: I've maybe heard the name twice) to be able to say anything aside from Walmart probably missed the SRP drop on it, possibly more than once. Such is retail, especially with items that aren't your primary focus. After all, Walmart only recently started the whole Gamecenter thing.

All I know is the whole Gamestop ordeal wasn't simply a mix-up, it was a deliberate attempt to misinform for profit. And it wasn't the first issue I had with Gamestop. Because of that, I actually support EA's decision to include the codes for additional content with new copies simply because it hurts Gamestop.

2. But then you miss out on learning stuff like the origin (and proper spelling of) gyp! >.>

EDIT: Also, in my previous post I tried to edit "really devoted fan" to say "really devoted really devoted fan" and instead ended up with "really devoted really devoted fan." I'm just awesome like that.

EDIT 2: Wow, I did it again. I meant to say "really devoted really devoted fan." I'm even more awesome than I thought.

EDIT 3: Now I understand... the forum autocorrects f-a-n-b-o-y to say really devoted fan... I was worried there for a second... >.>

Personally, i think that Walmart is the devil, along with Dell and any credit card company, but i wanted a physical copy of the game, and the only way to get spec ops was steam or Walmart.

How's your pre-order going? I hope everything gets fixed up for you. :( Got any recent news from Wally?

In terms of my own Wal-Mart pre-order, I recently got an email from them saying that the release date was pushed up to May 10th
and my game won't be delivered until the 17th (the next Tuesday), lol. Well, it's better than the 26 or 28th which was my original delivery date, lol....?

I still don't see the problem - like I've said before, I just pre-ordered less than a week ago with no issues. I doubt you would have any idea if you opened a new order.

You said 1 or 2 weeks right? That should be enough time. After all:

Video Games - Preorder Promise
Our Preorder Promise offers release date delivery of preordered video games at no additional cost.

Restrictions:

* Only pay 97-cent Shipping
* Must have an official street date that falls on a week day.
* Offer not valid if order is placed within 3 business days of game release date.
* Excludes APO/FPO, PO Boxes, Puerto Rico, and remote destinations.
* Excludes nationwide manufacturer delays and weather delays.

So as long as you pre-order by May 6, you should be fine.

By the way, I just registered, and the verification word that you type in (so they know you're not a robot) had "é" in it. Never seen it ask for an accent before... huh.
