Wands In Skyrim

Post » Wed Aug 03, 2011 1:53 am

i always didn't like wands it just the way they are that bothers me, and because we have one handed staffs two handed staffs i don't feel they need another one. but if they add it i wouldn't care. and the vampires in twilight are dumb, when in the sun they don't burn or get weak they just sparkle.

It's fine if you don't like wands. Personally I don't care for Oblivion style staffs.

...And yeah the Vampires in Twilight were weak, that's what makes my point.

And I hate when people dis a great and popular series like Harry Potter just to "be above the crowd".

Read the book man. So much better than the movies. Even if your guy friends make fun of you.

I'll admit though that the movies svck. Especially the first one, and even the books aren't everybody's cup of tea.

YEah there should totally be wands and I really wondered that in Oblivion cuz there weren't any. But I guess maybe there not in the game cuz it would be to much like Harry Potter and so maybe people think it's to dorky or something but I think It could be cool.

Why waste time reading the Twilight book when you can read an actually good book, like Catch-22?

You're never too old to enjoy Harry Potter.

And reading any book isn't really a waste of time. There's no reason I couldn't read both.

And once again, don't bash something just to be "above the crowd". While Twilight isn't for everybody, I've read the first few books, and for the target audience they're fine.

i tried to enjoy them but i feel like the movies have a childish undertone to them so when i saw the third it seemed mediocre and four was better then i couldn't like them any more

I get you with the first few movies feeling childish. My personal favorite is "The Prisoner of Askaban". For me that's when they started to look up. They get more and more mature as they go on.

Hm...Off topic :/

The films are also fine for the target audience. How would they have such a success otherwise? That's not a good point to read it.

they would be nothing more than a visual feature since the lore of how Magicka works does not require speacial objects to channel the magick. sounds like a great mod for some people though.

The films are not fine for the target audience. They're not well made, and the first one has horrible production values.

The books are just fine. Not great, but they don't deserve the type of "Oh man Twilight svcks" that it gets from the teenage males.

It's not Potter hate; I just can't take wands seriously.

This. Wands are for fairies. Do you want to be powerless if someone takes your wand or it gets knocked out of your hand or broken? I like how the power is inside the person, not affiliated with a stupid little stick. Besides it isn't going to happen its not in the LORE that I've ever seen.

Wand... no. I would prefer a stone as a focus for magic and if my energy and concentration fail me I can always smack things with it or chuck it at my enemy.

Yes if it allowed more variation than just staffs for magical weapons;
Wands, septers, talismans, gems and other artifacts could all be light weight one handed casting weapons.
I think it would suit certain character builds and bring interest to magical items. Wouldn't you carry something small yet powerfull and highly characterful, example: dwemer pocket watch that could also let off a blast of light to illuminate the darkness and turn away undead.
Won't be trouble to implement as most most small objects could use the same held forward animation.

Personaly I'm not a fan of the traditional style wand but I could be persuaded as I've never liked carrying staffs as the are large and I normally only like to carry limited gear so a bundle of wands would take up less space than a staff and give lots of variation on spells.

While I'm inclined to say no (because I don't really like wands), perhaps if there were wands that were pretty much the same as magic staves. That way, people who want their wands can have their wands, and vice-versa.

But comeon...really? Who can argue that shooting lightning from your hands is more BA than using a little stick any day?

I would prefer a book over a wand myself. It just seem cooler to seem to read book while my PC burned a small group of goblin alive. In fact I can see Wand=dagger faster spell but weaker, Stave=longsword good all around and book=claymore slower attack but stronger. And they should verisons made to be like guns(Oblivion types verison) and verison made to help you cast spell.

This would make you able to have more unique's mages without mods.

Hey hey folks... the subject was wands - like 'em, don't like 'em, think they would work in ES, or not... and although references to wands lately do seem to bring up Harry Potter, this is not a thread to discuss the books or movie. You could always jump to CD and do a Harry Potter thread (if there isn't one already).

Let's wander back on topic, okay?

This is not Hogwarts... So I vote nay... I'm perfectly content with my elemental digits or my staves.... :foodndrink:

The Skyrim team clearly already took some pointers from Harry Potter. The protection spell and the wand/staff that casts light both manifest in ways very similar to spells seen in the Potter films.

That said, wand, staff. . . more or less the same, except a staff can also be used to bash someone over the head. Actually, a staff can be a wand and vice versa. By the old definitions, any staff with magical properties IS a wand, and a wand can be staff length. In The Hobbit, Gandalf's staff is alternately reffered to as a staff and a wand.

I think staffs are much more cooler, but if people want wands, I don't see why not. Afterall, it wouldn't be the first or worst time Beth strayed from the set lore.
