Wands In Skyrim

Post » Tue Aug 02, 2011 8:37 pm

Wands could be a useful addition to our arsenals in Skyrim. If they were implemented, i imagine they would essentially be staffs that dont do direct damage to the enemy; instead being used for supplemental magic like silence and paralyze, as opposed to using destruction and conjuration magic. Another advantage to carrying a wand over a staff is that they would weigh close to nothing. So, what do you guys think?

I know wands dont really fit into the rugged tone of Skyrim, but there are probably regions in the game where they could make sense contextually and be popular (like the mages guild).

This being said, there really is no indication that wands will be in the game, but this is how i imagine they would work if they were in.

I would imagine them as equal to staffs, but consumable -- no possibility of recharge.

Wands were a part of fantasy way before Harry Potter.

Edit: Staffs make wands seem a bit irrelevent, excepting a desire for different aesthetics. Perhaps in traditional high-fantasy Oblivion, but wands don't seem to fit in Skyrim as well. Even my idea for a spell consumable is just a scroll with more uses.

It's not Potter hate; I just can't take wands seriously.

you could get staffs with paralyze or silence anyway or at least paralyze and they were good, why replace them, i say just make more varieties and skins for the staffs, not replace them but thats just me

Not every mage is a wizard. A wand seems much more appropriate for a witch of which Skyrim will have an abundence I hope.

I see wands being more practical than staffs; especially for characters who aren't solely into magic. Also, you could just make them a limited number of uses then they're gone; or petty soul gems.

Well, wands could weigh much less than staffs. why would you carry a heavy staff that only silences things when you could have a light weight little wand. also, wands could be more aesthetically pleasing to some people

I agree with this, as I would take wands as one-handed staves. I wouldn't mind seeing them in-game, so I vote yes.

it would be a bit odd for a 230 pound nord to be using a twig in battle, but it would be an amazing addition to the arsenal of a wizard of witch. or perhaps even a stealth type character that doesn't necessarily have the encumbrance or magicka to wield heavy staffs or powerful spells

Wands are the Homosixual cousins of Staves. Keep Harry Potter away from My ES.
