Wands in Skyrim?

Post » Mon Dec 13, 2010 2:45 am

Yeah I've thought about this also, but I'd rather it not be using magicka (that's what spells are for)

A wand would just be like a staff that you can use in one hand, so you can use a weapon, shield, or spell in the other hand.

It would be good to require a certain level of a magic school though so you don't have warriors equipping awesome wands in their off hand.

we can also have flying brooms in skyrim too! seriously nothing harry potter related...

They wear clothes in harry potter, better get rid of those also!

I think that wands using mana would differ from staves by 1: being able to use over and over again. 2. having unique factors like push enemy back ect (insert imagination here) and 3. You can dual wield.

When I hear wands I think wizards of waverly place. Hell yeah.

Don't blame us haters just blame Harry Potter, it is not our faults.

This is exactly what I am talking about. Now I'm going to help with the defensive. I know it is easy to think of wands as a little effeminate, but I am trying to keep an open mind here. I very much like to have options, and although I rarely play as a mage, I am starting to think this might be a good idea. Come on people, think of a bad a$$ wand made of a Splintered Dragon Tooth, or even Dragon Bone. If crafting is a part of TES:V then I think this would be a great candidate for a craftable/enchantable item!

I don't know exactly what you're talking about but I'm sure they will let you quit the game.

I think that the people that equate wands=Harry Potter, don't remember a time before Harry Potter.

Well this idea is obviously doomed. Every other post is just someone with a very unclever Harry Potter reference.

I'm sure if they were put into Skyrim they wouldn't be anything like Harry Potter, but it is hard to think of something when wand are brought up. If they were put in Skyrim maybe they could be used like they are in World of Warcraft where they cast spells faster...i don't know though.

I really don't see a point of wands. The reason I don't want wands in the game isn't because it is in Harry Potter (seeing as how they have been in games such as Diablo since before Harry Potter) but because they don't fit in TES. We have staves, that since Oblivion, shoot their own spells and why not make them even more useful than they were in Oblivion instead of trying to make something completely new to replace them.

We're not replacing them, we just want more items/weapon types etc.

Did anyone say anything about replacing them? With my idea, they would simply be a tool to aid spell casting (lower spell magicka/requirements mainly).

Also a really good idea was raised. Maybe they could speed up or enhance or even add on an effect to spells.

I was thinking why not have really low powered wands that use mana so that the mage can actually use some sort of staff that can be used over and over again.
What do you think?

i dont agree with wands but i do believe in scepters, like diablo 2

The game already has staffs. Probably there is going to be some variety in staff design. I′m not a big lore buff and I don′t really see a big difference between staffs and wands.

edit: If you can create your own staff and enchant it, you can call it a wand?

You can call them what you like. They serve the same purpose, so they're basically the same thing.

With that logic you could say:

The Elder Scrolls have short swords, I dont see any point of having daggers.

Wands just don't match the non-childish attitude of TES.

Well I'm not one of the crowd that hears something is removed/replaced and goes berserk screaming how the game has been ruined. I really don't think they should add them into the game unless they make them actually look cool and call them by a different name like scepter or something. Putting wands in the game will make those that try to accuse games of trying to be like WoW go into a frenzy and start saying the TES series has become a ripoff of WoW when there is no factual basis in the statement. I just don't see the reason to add an item in the game that will flood these forums with those sorts of people.

Edit: See Lich Freak and I are on the same page about Scepters hehe.

i guess wands can be faster casting/weaker damage versions of staves...
