Wands in Skyrim?

Post » Sun Dec 12, 2010 10:49 pm

I was thinking why not have really low powered wands that use mana so that the mage can actually use some sort of staff that can be used over and over again.
What do you think?

Why not, the more content the better. Ive never seen a harry Potter, but magic wands have been a part of fantasy since its inception, so why not.

I'm for it they could be like staff but would shoot faster but weaker.

I wouldn't mind if they include it, though it would be just like a staff.

Expelliarmus!

And of course thanks to the new combat system, they could be dual-wielded, right?

When I think of wands, I think of fanciful fairies and Harry Potter (and I don't think I'm alone). Skyrim seems to be going for a darker tone than Oblivion, so unless they miraculously find a way to make wands really bad-ass, it seems unlikely.

Ugh, I can't imagine my character doing an animation ala Harry Potter to use his wand. It would look so weird and... I won't even say because it's insulting. But, you get the point. Plus we already have dual-casting and staves, those look badass!

ROFL
Well, this is not a bad idea, but I personally do not feel like it fits in with the style of TES games. Besides, I don't feel like having to learn Latin to shoot a spark out of a thin stick. Sarcasm aside, it is obvious that many of us relate wands to Harry Potter now, however I would not be adverse to this idea if it is implemented well.

Perhaps wands (staves also) could allow spells to be cast more easily. They could possibly lower the magicka requirements for any particular spell and maybe allow for the casting of spells not quite within the skill level of the character. This way, they would be helpful for early game mages and also for late-game, powerful and difficult spells. Of course, nobody would have to use them, but the incentive might be enough to spend some hard-earned money on one.

Just a thought. I, personally, had never thought of the inclusion of wands, though I could see them working within the context of the game. I think people have this idea in their heads that wands are silly and belong to Harry Potter and the likes, when they don't necessarily have to be.

i dont want it to be harry potter like also i just think that it make being a mage so much more interesting because you choose between limited power thats slow or almost limitless weaker power that is a lot faster also like one of you said, duel wielding could add a lot to it as well. So in this case the wands should be lot slower though.
EDIT: Also I think that wands should either be extremely rare or very common.

Am I the only one that doesn't think wands=Harry Potter? Merlin wasn't in Harry Potter. lol. Neither was Hermes and his caduceus. I hear the "this isn't Harry Potter" and it reminds me of the "duel wield? this isn't Halo" sentiment.

Perhaps don't call it a wand. Harry Dresden carries a "Blasting Rod." That sounds better doesn't it?

Or, ya know, we could have staves and wands. Options are always nice.

My point is is that staffs use "souls" (if you know what I mean) and wands use mana.

If wands were just like multi-use scrolls than I'm all for it. Dual wielding wands is awesome too :gun:

This. No need to add wands to the TES universe when we can just flesh out staves. Though they need to make staves one handed so I can dual-wield them with a sword like Gandalph at Helmsdeep!
