I wanna hit "M" and a map instantly shows up

Post » Thu Aug 26, 2010 9:00 pm

I want to press M and see a map come out instantaneously. Like other RPGS. - Not some fancy animation first (FO3/Oblivion)

Same goes for all other things like Journal, Char Sheet, and Inventory. Let me bind all of these, and let them come up fast.

Todd, please :(

I don't care about moving when it's out, but at least give us customizable hotkeys ("m" for map, "j" for journal, ect...)

Meh. Doesn't matter to me . I guess it would be cool, but that's not really something that's on my wishlist, and I doubt we'll see it.

Sorry for the negativity.............

Edit: Damn it did I post in right thread or did someone redo their post?

You mean the pop up geck or the journal function?
A maps a map, for style I'd like a folding out map UI.

I think you can do that - in Oblivion anyway. Fit F7 or something?

having to watch the tabs slide from side to side was so annoying, i just wanted to press M or I or C to get what I needed to see instantly.

it wasn't as bad in Fallout3, but still inferior to other games were you can access any of this info much faster. (On PC atleast)

F4 would bring up the journal, then if you had set it to local or world map before hand that page would pop up automatically.

However yes you're right it was a bit fiddly at times.
A M for world map and L for local would work ( or any other keys. )
The Pc is said to be getting a seperate UI for Skyrim so maybe better key bindings are standard.. fingers crossed.

Makes no difference to me, but I'm sure PC users would appreciate it.

I think the UI on the PC should just allow for full customizable menu shortcuts. If I want to press Numpad 5 for inventory then I should be able to. I don't see a solid reason for it to be bound permanently to one of the F# buttons.

In case you haven't been paying attention to what's been said on the subject:

Tap the menu button, and a four point, compass-style overlay will appear before your eyes... press down on the menu, and it's as if your character is looking down to the ground, As he looks earthward, the first=person view begins to pan far back. Skyrim's map appears as a huge topographical display viewed from an improbable height.

So that's what you're gonna get.

Personally I wouldn't haven't minded something similar to http://thelure.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/far-cry-2.jpg

Hmmm... not really a fan of that. A bit immersion breaking...

Bindable keys for Map, journal, etc... would be nice. Couldn't you do that in Morrowind, but lost it in Oblivion?

As long there's a "turn off time wasting animations" switch, I don't care.

We PC users really should be able to bind every menu function - this was often done back in the days of games like Quake 2 even if nobody really used it to its full extent.

Thank god

A M for world map and L for local would work ( or any other keys. )

L is usually for the quest log though

I wouldn't mind having to press M then select local map.
