I want to buy new vegas BUT... can any one answer my questio

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 11:35 pm

I like skyrim its fun BUT the one thing missing from skyrim for me is the fact of exploration and item hunting/treasure hunting. Many will even agree in skyrim there really isnt that much great loot and you really cant make a treasure hunter that just explores to collect loot/artifacts, even if you make a blacksmith/enchanter you can make stuff way better than you can find.

Now in New Vegas how is the exploration? Is it useful making a treasure hunter type character that you can find rare stuff and collect and put up in your home etc.

New Vegas in exploration is...

Well, cut down the dungeons from Skyrim about 90%.
The dungeons in FNV are small, some caves are even just two rooms.
The gameworld is also filled with invisible walls to guide you on the path for the main quest.

New Vegas isn't a exploration game. It's a roleplaying game. It's about dialogue, character interaction, questing, choices, AnC but not about exploration.
So if you want a sigh-seeing game for your sandbox needs then get Fallout 3 or Oblivion, but New Vegas is not like them. It's an RPG.

If that's your ideal game, try FO3. It's a fun park of exploration.

Hmmm, exploration isint the *main focus of NV.
IMO, it's more story driven, yet it has ALOT of areas to explore and discover. Actually, there's many locations that the game will never tell you about, meaning you have to discover them on your own.

Yes, Skyrims loot is less than appealing. NV does intact have a fairly comprehensive list of loot/ special items that make exploring very rewarding.
Example: there is a cave(won't say which one) where, after fighting off several Death Claws, you find a body which has a very powerful/ cool lookn grenade launcher called Mercy.
No one in game will mention this weapon or the location, so your rewarded for exploring. There's alot of situations like this one.

I say buy the game(not ultimate), it's under $20 at most game shops. Then if you enjoy it, get the DLC.

New Vegas does have a lot of exploration in it but unlike Skyrim it's not scaled. Head north from the starting area and you'll encounter enemies that will kill you in 2-3 hits maybe even less if it's a Deathclaw. The 1st 10 hours or so will be kinda linear in nature due to the game not being scaled although you still can do whatever you want, after that it kinda opens up a bit and gets better. Fallout 3 has better exploration and a better openworld but New Vegas is probably the better game overall. New Vegas does have some unique locations that are awesome to explore though.

There are rare and unique items in New Vegas, but they aren't all hidden away in some dungeon protected by a bunch of baddies. You have to go out and talk to people, do quests and earn the items.

There is alot to explore, in New Vegas. Just that the game isn't based around it. You can even explore underwater in New Vegas.

New Vegas settings/weapons in Fallout 3 would be the greatest game ever.

New Vegas is about story, not entering 200,000 dungeons to find the same old [censored] there.

I uninstalled Skyrim today, it was boring once I beat all main quest lines and it took up a huge amount of memory.

I'm getting NVUE in a few days.

U can accumulate tons o' loot in both Fallout 3 & New Vegas. That doesn't mean the loot is worth much though. I enjoy gathering junk & making weapons. I made tons of Dart Guns & Railroad Rifles, just because I could. If you like to collect loot then both of these games are great. Heck the original 2 Fallout games were great for collecting stuff too.

Fallout 3 has much better exploration, and New Vegas has a much better story.

Just depends on what you want.

New Vegas can be very rewarding at times but exploration aint its best feature. If you are in the mood to do some scavenging(campfires, reloading benches work benches) though it can be a good game.
Fallout 3 is focused on exploration though and it, unlike every other considered fallout game, has a bad story and forgettable characters.

Am I the only one who noticed that Skyrim had like no voice actors whatsoever?

I swear. Ralof's voice actor probably voiced 75% of the nords in the game.

Yeah, they had like five all together.

Only unique voices I remember were Three Dog's (not the actual Three Dog, his voice actor for a Dark Brotherhood member) and the Night Mother's.

I bought the UE yesterday. So I know my New Vegas will be rich in quests. I'm about exploration too.

I got to tell you if exploration is your thing you'd be better off with Fallout 3. The engine is the same as New Vegas and its got a lot of its own type of dungeons with the metro system and abandoned buildings.

Well thats how Bethesda makes sure they get the max amount of money out of a game.

A ) They get really cheap writers, or no writers at all. Then I am guessing don't pay them much or tell them to jus write as little as possible.

B ) They hire as little voice actors as possible.

I am kinda hoping New Vegas make Bethesda change all that. Their fan base has been exposed to a get RPG, and now know what one is supposed to be like. They might not be happy to have Fallout go back to half assed writing like Fallout 3.

New Vegas is very rich in story telling and quests. The characters have a lot of depth. While this game isn't all about exploring compared to FO3, there are still some good areas to explore.

Its not really going back to half assed writing. F1 & 2 had good writing (maybe not revelutionary, but at least not copied).. F3 was the bad egg. Suprised Bethesda devaloped it? Nah.
