I want to end all of this ZOMG my PC owns your 360/PS3

Post » Sun Dec 20, 2009 5:55 am

Before I start I want to say i like to game on MY PC and 360 and that PC games will always look better and be better but the fact of the matter is that PC gaming is dying... Let me explain.

When i look at the steam store it says the most played game is counterstrike and this is every day the peak is about 80k. 80K for source and 80k or 1.6 or whatever so about 160k PEAK!

Then look at black ops and MW2 around 40K each on peak, now take a look at Black ops on 360 every time i play black ops on my 360 there is at least 700k player online, I went on it on Saturday last week there was 2.1 million people playing that over half of steams total players online PEAK then MW2 will have around 500k players on a day.

so my point is that even though your games ARE better, we have far more players which is why games developers are coming to xbox and ps3 because it is such a larger market.

I don't want to see anyone on here that says well actually over some many years PC gaming has been growing... because I don't care because the whole PC community is minuscule to the size of the console community, and if you added all of the player of the top 100 games played in a day MW2 on 360 alone would double that number without peak number.

Also PC piracy is a huge problem and don't say it is as bad on 360 because its not you wonna know how i know because i know someone with a flashed 360 that buys games for £3 2 weeks before they are released but ONLY plays they on an off-line account to see what they are like because if you go on xbox live with they you get banned almost instantly.

When you think about it it could even be soon when making games on PC inst even feasible because of piracy and the such lower amount of copys sold on PC compared to 360/PS3.

Also all of this my keyboard/mouse own the controller has to end here is the truth. The joystick is better than a keyboard for movement as it moves in all 360 degrees where as keyboard is only at 45 degree intervals. also joystick can move at variable speeds for example if you push the joystick a bit you move slower this makes it better for driving games and sports games.

The mouse is better than the joystick though for aiming.

PC gaming is dieing live with it (I don't want to see it die but that's the truth, im actually building a new rig now)

Please dont flame but post your opinion.

Ever heard of World of Warcraft, DotA, Starcraft 2 and League of Legends?

Well, now you have.

Also piracy being a problem is an excuse from the publishers for making bad games that do not sell. Good games sell no matter what.
Look at bad company 2 and starcraft 2. Both had almost 3 million copies of illegal downloads but both sold much more than that. Bad company 2 sold over 6 million copies (2.5 of those on PC) and Sc2 has reached 4.5 million copies and hasn't even released at china yet which is an instant 2 million more sales.

Also note that the 3 million pirated copies of bc2 are combined for all 3 platforms, so the sales on PC outperformed the downloads by far.

People that pirate games will NOT buy the games if piracy didn't exist, they would simply ignore them, they download them for the sake of a free game and nothing else. There are people like me who don't pirate games but buy them whether they are good or not. If a game is not good and sells 400k copies and the pirated downloads were 600k, it doesn't mean i didn't buy the game because it was there for me to pirate it, i simply didn't bother. Those 600k who pirated it, wouldn't get it anyhow, the problem with the game was because it was terrible and not because of piracy.

Piracy being a problem for PC sales is a myth. Pc gamers don't buy PC ported games because we get dumbed down console ports when our hardware is 6 years ahead of that of consoles thus we get boring games. When developers start caring for us and port PC games to consoles instead giving us a non-dumbed down version of the game, we will start buying their games again and do more sales than consoles do.

I'm really curious as to what makes people think that pirates would buy games if they couldn't get them for free.

Exactly my point. The funny part is that publishers and developers believe that too and make non-friendly DRM for us legit purchasers.

I understand what you are saying about piracy. But even though they sold that many copies for games look at the amount of players playing them this website shows it http://bfbcs.com/ there around 25 thousand on BFBC2 everyday for PC that more than what play on xbox and ps3 but its still la tiny amount.

Currently i see 31k players fo PC and 20k for ps3 and 24 for xbox360. Even though this was game is a complete console port it is very good, PC gamers apreciated it and bought it. I play bc2 online a lot, i have over 400 hours on it and i got vietnam too. Its simply a very good game. If all PC games were of this quality people will buy them.

fair enough but my main point was that compared to console gaming PC gaming is nothing any more.

Highest ive ever seen on steam PEAK as high 3 million there is at least. There was more people playing Black ops on the 1st day of release on xbox alone than that (5.6million) and that was a 1 time not PEAK and not total number of players in the day it was a random point i can remember it and there was probs around that amount on PS3 aswell.

Like i said on my first post look at WoW, Sc2, DotA and League of Legends.

Im going to state some numbers here. Active WoW subscribers are 11.9 (these are active players, not subscribers that have the game on the shelf).
We all know how addicted WoW players are so at peak hours should i estimate that at least 6 or 7 million players worldwide are playing? (imo they are more but you would disagree so i leave it there). Sc2 on release (1.8 million copies sold if im not mistaken by that time) had 1 million players online for about 2 weeks and now the game has reached 4.5 millions. I will estimate that over 600k people play online since the hype has gone off even though sales are over double since release.

League of legends is also a free to play game that with EU and US servers combined has well over 1 million players at the weekends.

We both know that the most played online games on xbox360 are halo and the yearly CoD 4 expansions that come out and people move on the latest expansion pack.

Don't base your facts on steam and certainly not on the cod black ops pc player count stated on steam....

You compare Steam, an extremely minor fragment of the PC multiplayer population, to the entirety of Xbox live? Lol.

God I hate the consoleros who say that PC gaming is dying when the truth is that it only keeps rising. I'm sorry that a decent gaming PC owns your 6 year old consoles, that's just a sad fact. PC gaming is not dying even though some people would like to belive it is. PC Community has a smaller popularity but it's growing quite fast.

Please.. You are an Xbawks player who has a lame family computer with intergrated graphics that people use for facebook.

so my point is that even though your games ARE better, we have far more players

Why would a PC gamer address console players as "we" and PC gamers as "you"?

The PC requires a bit more dedication to download, install, get drivers, upgrade your hardware, etc.

In the end, though, it's worth it. Although a lot of games are ports, many are very entertaining (Bad Company 2, Assassin's Creed II, etc.).

The PC spectrum has a lot more shooters and MMOs than the consoles, for obvious reasons. Personally, I think the mouse and keyboard plus amazing graphics beat some bizarre buttons and anolog sticks, with graphics from 2005.

PC gaming is not dying. It is growing, and growing fast - consoles are becoming outdated, and PCs offer much more power to apply to your games. Steam is not a small fragment (you're going to argue it's a minor fragment with a community of 10 million?!), but it is becoming the Xbox live of PCs. Consoles, if anything, are running out of options: the new products are handhelds, and the Xbox and PS3 are becoming obsolete. The annoying thing is that the lack of options for consoles utterly devastates the PC's capabilities, since more companies market the console world.

Currently leading the gaming revolution is Battlefield 3, which promises much, much higher performance on PC than console. Crysis 2 should have been in the same category, but I have doubts after seeing the demo and some more recent news...

And just to start a flame war (you know, for fun, right?) I'm going to argue that WoW is not in line with other PC games. World of Warcraft has a lot of players, for sure, but few have the same passion for gaming you see on the Steam community. They're just *sniff* WoW junkies looking for their next fix. Paying $15 a month to repeatedly perform mundane tasks so that you can call people n00bs... sounds like fun...

It is true there are much more console gamers out there. But think about this. How many kids under the age of 12 actually own a gaming rig? Not many. The majority of people that play console are the little kids who can't afford a gaming rig or are to lazy and/or ignorant of the power of pc's. Correct me if I'm wrong but when playing on pc, isn't there a far more mature gaming community. I have call of duty black ops on ps3 (I had a crap computer back then) and the amount of pre pubascent kids who rage on their mics are quite large. Also the amount of players having rather unique emblems (one of the worst I saw was a gorilla butt f***ing a horse) is enormous. On pc these problems are significantly less.

So even though there are less gamers on pc, the experience is much better because you get better graphics and a better community

I hear this "PC gaming is dying" BS since the PS1 days.
I'm still waiting to see any sign of decay.

i love you, i cant wait till PC gaming finally dies hopefully the next gen consoles we smash the PC nerds once and for all

Sergeant, PC will always be faster than consoles... always for the enthusiast. Why? Consoles must be affordable, and can only emulate PC hardware that already exists... if the Xbox 360 had the hardware of a modern gaming PC, would you pay $700-1,000 for it?

I feel like one of the reasons it's dying is due to the fact that today, most people are looking for stuff that won't have to have them shell out the extra money. To have a decent rig is much more expensive than a pre-built Xbox or PS3. Even with that said, there are a lot of advantages that PC has over the consoles.

Yeah PC gaming is happily dying since 1991..

So much "real" and market - near experts have forecast that Pc gaming will die in the near future...( im talkin about developers and famous CEOs and not some noobish internet nerdy boy- wannabe`s) and yet we are still playing games on Pcs and still we spent a **** of money on high end systems and yeah Pc gaming is very famous in europe ( especially in germany ;-) ) and in most parts of Asia of course.
Maybe Pc gaming is not a big thing in the USA... but dont think the USA represents the whole world.

No matter what you do, or in this case which platform you prefer, there will always be elitist ****. Best you can do is ignore them, because you'll never get them to suddenly change their mind and agree with you just because you're person number 999,999,999 to try and convince them otherwise.
