I Want To Literally Fight Alduin

Post » Sun May 15, 2011 11:52 am

I do NOT want to just stand back on the side lines and watch someone kill/banish Alduin for me. It was like this in OB and while it looked cool, it wasn't that fun.

I want to literally jump on Alduin's back God of War style and just stab his back multiple times. I want to get thrown off and have to dodge his flame attacks. I want him to roar out of frustration, stunning me and taking flight again. I want to do some ranged attacks on him (Bows, Magic) until he comes back down. Maybe run away a little bit because he's about to crush me. Most importantly, I want to do some dragonshouts on him. Do you see my point? I WANT to actually participate in this fight with some epic music in the background. Thoughts/Opinions?

I'm getting the feeling he's going to be massive, like Mehrunes Dagon. In order to fight something like that, something is going to have to happen that will even allow you to have a fighting chance.

So, basically you want God of War: Skyrim or Ninja Gaiden: Skyrim? Personally I don't think it'd mesh well with typical Elder Scrolls gameplay, ramping it up all of a sudden like that.

I Completly 100% Agree with this

I played who knows how many Hours in Oblivion Leveling my Character, just to watch Marting jump infront of me and Save the Day in 20 Seconds flat.

Next thing i know, Im the Champion of Cyrodill for doing absolutly NOTHING.

That sounds like too much work.

I plan to simply launch hundreds of Choke berries towards him via catapult and hope he swallows a few.

for real bro. i got this mental image of Shadow of the Colossus [censored] in my head and it won't go away ;_;

honestly i don't think they'd spend the entire game throwing dragons at you and making you some beastly dragon-killing [censored] if they weren't going to flip everything you know upside down in some crazy fight at the end. it's such a perfect setup.

Well in Morrowind you fought and slaughtered all the "Main" Villains yourself, I was actually rather surprised by the whole Akatosh thing in Oblivion, but since you were the Emperor's Champion and not the World's Hero in Oblivion, being on the sidelines at the end made sense to me. Assuming Skyrim is purely about the Dragonborn returning and you being said Dragonborn, then yeah you'll definitely be the one to save the world, with your own hands.

Its an interesting situation that we're put in front of in Skyrim. The god of Time is coming full circle. He helped start the world, and now he's coming to end it. Possibly the other lesser spirits who want out of Mundas fight under him, taking his avatar that is a dragon to fight. As dragonborn, we're given the same power as dragons. But with that...comes a question. We're more than lesser mer and men. The spirits simply want out of Mundas. And look at the men and mer, we're fighting a civil war for crying out loud. Brother's killing each other for nothing more than power. If I was imprissoned, and the people keeping me there were acting like spoiled children fighting over something so petty...I'd be pretty pissed off too. So...who's in the right here? The dragons that simply wish to go home...or the men and mer, who don't want their world to end?

Another thing that's intersting...Red Mountain has blown up. Will Lorkhan's heart...the thing that suposidly made red mountain...be involved with Skyrim as well? The only things mentioned on Alduins wall is what has happened in the games. Could the mastermind behind Mundas play a part as well?

At any rate...you're asking to fight the god of time. Even as a Dragonborn, that's no simple task. We'd probably need help from another spirit, one that wishes for men and mer to stay dispite their imperfections. At any rate, I picture Alduin as a larger pich black dragon we'll get to fight. We'll stay the same size, but a spirit may give us some of their energy to pump up our dragonshouts to give us a fighting chance. I'm looking forward to it, we'll see how Bethesda plays.

However, I dont' see them spending so much time on dragons only for them to be a sideshow. I'm sure our final boss will be a dragon as well.

The Dragons want to go home, and the Men & Mer want to live.
No one is technically "right"; it's a game of survival.

I'd rather see the thing to be waaaaaaaaay too HUGE to be tackled head on, but yes, I agree that it is time for our main protagonist to be on the center stage this time. Though I'd prefer some method that is very, very challenging (which really involves your character's and your playing skills this time, whatever their specialization was) and yet unconventional/original enough to shut down the menace.

But srsly I just want to see Alduin as this gargantuan mass of a pitch black apparition with a noticeable features of a wyvern/dragon that literally filled up the sky and disintegrates everything unlucky enough to be on its path, really.

edit: more or less like a very thick black sludge on top of your favorite painting, endlessly dripping downward. So after you done put an end to the world eating (erasing?) business, you got to find a way to reversing the effect.

The Dragons want to go home, and the Men & Mer want to live.

Well I thought that the super duper ultra fundamentalists among the Altmer folk actually share the same interest with the dragons.

I agree, and I'm certain a confrontation with Alduin will be included, because this is the purpose of Dovahkiin, to turn back the dragons, SPOILER ALERT, in Oblivion your role was to find the heir and help him, in Skyrim you're the hero that needs to lead the charge.

Exactly what I was thinking. If we had the power to kill him why not just fight him straight away. Beside I don't fancy my chances against something that eats world s

As stated many times in Oblivion you attempted to stall the mythic dawn so that you could re light the dragon fires I feel that Beth will take a similar approach. As Dragonbone says it would be lame to have it end that way but it is a possibility.

except Alduin isn't a daedric prince, and enough people were angry that they didn't get to actually fight Dagon themselves that Bethesda wouldn't make the same mistake twice.

I've a feeling the fight is going to be all about evading/dodging him while you're preparing some kind of portal to svck him in it. Maybe you can distract him with dragon shouts, dunno.

I dont know, no one does but I dont' see em spending so much time on dragons only for us to seal away Alduin with no big final fight. We'll see.

The Dragons want to go home, and the Men & Mer want to live.
No one is technically "right"; it's a game of survival.

Well, men and mer are currently in a civil war of all things. The world has gone to hell in a hand basket. The dragons/spirits or whatever they are probably could have survived just sitting on the sidelines like they have been. Seeing the men and mer squander their gift of life and freedom by fighting each other over something so petty probably is the last straw in the line of things. Some of the spirits may have even helped us when Alduin attacked, but seeing us throwing away the gifts we've been given probably was the last straw for a lot of them.

Technicaly men and mer are in the wrong for not using the gifts they were given, instead throwing them away by fighting and killing their fellow brothers over power. But if the warring factions can unite under the dragonborn as a form of redemption then some of the spirits may change from Alduin's side and come back to our own. With the help of some of the lesser spirits, the dragonborn could in theory fight toe to toe with Alduin. He is the god of time...but faith holds a considerable amount of power in Mundas. With the faith of men and mer, and the help of a lot of spirits, a dragonborn possibly could force the god of time back.

Who knows though. It is a fight for survival for men and mer, and that might be enough to halt the fight over power and combine forces to fight a common enemy. For the dragons, its less of a fight for servival...and more of a fight to go home cause their pissed off that these lowly lifeforms which they helped give life to not only get the freedom they wish for but are not even using it.

I'm not so sure it would be a mistake. I feel like fighting Alduin would either be way to easy for fighting a god dragon. Or make the game feel like some sort of linear action game (god of war, ninja gaiden, or even mass effect 2)

Dovakiin is dragonborn so why couldn't he do the equivalent of lighting the fires in Oblivion? He could still kill dragons and will do so but he also stops Alduin from coming.

We could just kill some dragons, get some dragon shouts and kill Alduin OR we could you know, have some depth in the storyline...

I agree with this whole heartedly. I personally liked Oblivions ending and morrowinds and I would be disappointed if Skyrim doesn't have a good end to the story.
