1 mighty paudron on your front arm would be cool or a single enchanted gauntlet for magic, but I don't see it happening.

I want pauldrons, but did anyone said that layers are out?

So far, all I know about slots / layers / equipment is mostly speculation on vague info.

I was seriously disappointed with the lack of pauldrons (and gauntlets, left & right) in oblivion

edit:
also regular clothes are pointless without layers

Being able to have one spiky glass pauldron in Morrowind if I wanted was awesome. It might not seem like a big deal, but it made me happy. :D

still, with the new dual-weilding system, the one-handed/shouldered armor use could be revived. A heavily armored sword-arm and an unarmored mage-arm...

I will be severely disapointed if there are no shoulders and/or clothing slots

Leather boots, pants, gauntlets, and the meanest left pauldron in game = most badass Mage ever.

More spell effectiveness on the unarmored spell-arm? That would be a nice feature.

Well I'm all for the return of pauldrons and layers but the layers can't be enchantable or they don't need to return. I don't like the idea of sacrificing balance for vanity.

This has always been the only valid point I saw raised against layers. Maybe simply having only the outer most layers enchantment work or something? *shrug* I'm sure they'd be able to figure it out, I just feel oblivions level of customization was really poor too often would two npcs look alike (or look exactly like me) because the amount of gear customization was so low (and because of the badly done level-scaling)

doesn't it seem like people get upset for the stupidest things? like missing pauldrens that is so insignificant to the game, I mean yeh it adds more customization a little bit and that is is. Plus modders can make whatever they want. and the reasons that there were less armor slots is because there was a drastic change in the system for clothes and armor, instead of having both an armor and a clipped area Oblivion just had armor

no just the implementation of pauldrens, I mean this whole thread is about pauldrens
and Bethesda already gave PC users the ultimate customization (CS)

Why comment on a thread you clearly do not understand ?

Back on topic:

I was looking at the game informer pics and I'm pretty sure we'll be getting the (whackness) oblivion armor slots, IE no pauldrens. Just a cuirass with pauldrons attached.
If you look at the viking enemies you can see that they are both wearing the same armor/pauldrens even though they are wearing different helms and are in different areas.

Well the lesser amount of gear slots were just a hasty way of fixing the exploitation of enchanting in Morrowind. With 9 years to fix the problem I think all the armor slots will return.

@N.H Christ He has a point. There is no reason for people to be outraged by losing extra slots of armor that didn't impact gameplay except positively. Enchanting made you a god in Morrowind. I really think that's why most people like Morrowind more than Oblivion. In Morrowind, it was hard for the first few hours and then you started to get strong enough to just blow through all the content. I just think most people liked Morrowind better because you would be unstoppable by anything once you got to certain level with all the exploitations like enchanting extra layers, spears and levitation while Oblivion is always about the same difficulty all the way through because of the level-scaling. I'm not saying you liking is Morrowind for that is a bad thing, it just isn't fair for people to denounce Oblivion as a bad game because they weren't god's at the end of the game, facerolling through content when you get high enough.

Why don't we just go make our own games then ? What's the point in playing if we can just make our own games?
PLAYING the game isn't fun at all. Finding an item you like is inferior then WORKING on one for hours.
Besided the fact that is PC only. And the other fact that they already had a working/superior system in place in morrowind.

sorry I coulddn't understand the sophisticated statement "i want mah pauldrons"

also I think they already added pauldren slots, look at page 50-51
the guy on the upperright is obviously only wearing one pauldren
also the guy being slain is wearing 2 different pauldrens, 1 goes longer than the other

Somehow I doubt it.
It wasn't just a quick fix on the enchanting problem. I think it was a way to streamline the experience for casuals/consoles.
I have a strong feeling the series is headed in a more casual direction. We MAY get pauldrons back someday but I doubt we'll ever get the left/right genious of morrowind.
It's just to complicated for new players to wrap their heads around.

This could just be asymetrical chest pieces, as seen in the fallout games

Yep, your right, it was working and superior. Superior because it made you unstoppable and took any challenge out of the game when you enchanted every layer. This is why they removed it, they didn't remove the extra slots just to make you sad so they could lap up your tears for sustenance, they removed it to balance the game.

Somehow I doubt it.

Wait, making the game not broken is pandering to casuals? Wow, so many game developers have been pandering to casuals....
