In general: lack of very good storylines, graphics aren't top of the line, customization isn't as massive as it was boasted to be.
On 360: bad texture loading, framerate is terrible, lag online doesn't help much.

Gameplay is nice if the game makes that its main focus.BRINK was aiming for an excellent campaign and an insane level of customization as well (and I forget what other things it was trying to emphasize). I guess people were expecting APB-level customization for the latter, but SD did claim BRINK's campaigns were very narrative-driven, and that wasn't delivered. It doesn't help that these days, we expect COD-level graphics from our FPS games.

The X360 got the worst of the bunch, not so sure about PS3. It's slightly (just slightly) negligible considering this is SD's first actual console game, but still, they didn't really put on a super-amazing show.

That's all part of the game! We have a narrative! We have
customization! And I still think graphics are just a luxury. They shouldnt be regarded when talking about the game because it doesn't affect the way a person plays.

The narrative isn't as good as it was promised to be. I remember reading that your character would be the leader in every cutscene (which I think we all assumed meant that he would have the most speech time), but speaking roles were relegated to a couple of guys who only set up the story for thirty seconds, with your character only appearing in the background.

The customization isn't that bad for an FPS, but people may have expected at least like 30+ jackets and pants, as well as 20+ masks. Sure, we do have 104 quadrillion or so customization options, but about half of that isn't really noticeable considering the pacing of the game.

As for graphics, I agree that they shouldn't be as important as the gameplay, but it's kind of distracting to be building an objective and watching as the white paint on the computer screen you're rebuilding turns out to actually be a ton of hairline fractures.

How did you not know what SMART was before you purchased the game? I'm pretty sure most if not all of us knew that all smart was was one button that make your character do certain things in certain situations. If I'm holding down the smart button, I can slide under something, hop over something, and then bounce off a wall without pressing any other button... that's all SMART is. The implications of SMART, however, is great. I honestly don't know what people complain about. SMART is only as good to a person as how innovating they are with it. Some average player will just be "Meh" about it and use it to get to certain places, while an amazing player will use it much much differently.

You are right, I would like my character to talk but at the same time I like looking for him going " Oh that's me!!"
With the customization i like it because being that we have choices for every part we have actual character customization, unlike other games. I think that sometimes it's taken for granted

I knew this was gonna happen once the game came out. The game is finished, but has bugs like all other games do. They're fixing it, if you don't want to wait then bye.

Tell me then, what makes the game unfinished? And in reality, no one cares about what the game looks like, it's all about the gameplay.

Really nobody cares? Funny cause I care and it seems like many other people who say they care....care. It's unfinished when they are scurrying trying to patch stuff still. Unfinished or Broken, doesn't matter what you wanna call it.

Well...
1. Smart is still in the game, it's a universal ladder, what other competition offers something like it?
2. I see a beginning and an end, sure it's not what you want of to be but it's there nonetheless. I like the beginning/end cutscenes and I do want more but I accept the fact that they finished it.
SMART is more than a ladder though. If you play a light body type you can do a wall run and wall jump.

They should've made more weapons unlockable via leveling instead of literally throwing them at your head for completing the kinda easy challenges.

I payed 50euros for the PC version of this game on Steam and I want my money back, this game is not even close to all that you promised to the comminity for many reason:

(1) Brink is full of technical issues (audio problems, low fps, server lag....) so it is more a beta than a retail product. I dont want to wait for a patch, I dont have to becuase you are the developers and you SHOULD release your product 100% tested. Otherwise you'd be cheating your customers. And this is exactly what you did with this game.

(2) Brink doesnt have a solid character customization, you just implemented a very rigid character templates, but you promised the opposite.

(3) Multiplayer games does not have any teamwork at all, no tactics neither player skill. Multiplayers games are just a bunch of people shooting to the opposite side at close range.

(4) The game lacks of content in solo&muliplayer modes, you can play all missions and all game modes in less than 3 hours, after that all is repetitive. I dont want to wait for DLC content, since it has the flavor of an unfinished game.

(5) The game system is clearly unbalanced and it is senseless... as an example, you get more XP giving amo or extra-health to the people in your side than killing foes.

(6) Brink doesnt have any inovation in the control system, SMART is the same thing as climbing a ladder in other FPS games

(7) Maps are quiet simple and boring, there's always one main corridor in the middle of the map and two flanks on sides....you did really bad with the level desing

I have to congratule Brink's marketing departement, they did a great job selling this game. They caught my attention with videos, intervies, features, etc and I weekly followed your website and preordered Brink on Steam, but the real game experience is really really really poor, nothing related to what you promised. I want my 50€ back.

Although I truly feel your pain at least be sure that me and a bunch of others surely thank you for coming upfront to debunk the BRINK scam. At least, your comments and those of many others that even have like the game but recognize that it doesn't cost $50r allowed me to get the money back from my Steam pre-order.

As I have seen in the comments from PC gamers (I don't give importance to console users opinions) BRINK turned out what I expected, a toned down console port. However, I might consider to get this game in 2 month when it goes to the garbage bin and they sell it for $15-20 bucks. I think that price should be fair considering that by then the bugs should be ironed out.

Shhhh...! :celebration:

Beside that, it's motivation. What's the point in unlocking 10% of the content every 5 minutes?

Yes the game has bugs. But what game does not. they have put a lot of thoughts in this game they made the game able for type of people . of course there's gonna be people who don't like the games but there in 1 out 10. They are fixing the bugs. I love this game and that it all team work. If you don't like to work with others than go back to halo or cod. and this game make you think.

In all honesty I was dissapointed with the customization. Its a solid game but I expected about twenty different options for each slot.
But other than that it's just what I imagined it would be.

BUT WAIT! There is more. The first DLC they are releasing is a free DLC which is suppose to have more costume options.

People being misinformed about the game isn't their fault, it's the fault of the people that misled them with false information.

Brink is a lot closer to what I'd expect from an xbox live arcade game than a full priced game.

I bought into the hype, but as far as maps brink has about 3 hours of content to offer. In addition to that you'll unlock just about everything there is to unlock in a few days. How can that be excusable when the campaign and the multiplayer experience are exactly the same thing?

I swear some of you people need to take a step back and look at things objectively. I can tell who has been spending all of their time playing Brink and hopping on these boards to defend it over and over as people point out the reality of the game.

I mean, compare what you get in Brink to almost any other FPS on the market and you quickly realize Brink has about 25% of the content they have. Maybe if the gameplay was sharpened to perfection that would've gone unnoticed, but the reality is that it isn't. Lag that makes the game completely unplayable is fairly common.

Aside from the ability the light body type has to hop off walls, everything SMART does you can do in Crysis 2. Crysis 2 also shipped with at least an 8 hour campaign in addition to multiplayer. (Although it was a disgustingly obvious COD ripoff, not the point).

Also I see a lot of people acting like an objective based FPS game with different classes is such a revolutionary idea and a breath of fresh air in a sea of COD clones, but Valve already made TF2. A fully multiplayer experience with a lot of gameplay elements you see overlapping in Brink. TF2 came included in the "Orange Box" which included Half Life 2 (Game of the year, still critically acclaimed to this day), Half-Life 2 Episode 1 + 2, and Portal. THAT could easily be considered one of the best values money can buy for a gamer. This was all for $59.99.

Brink is basically the equivalent of selling TF2 for $59.99, giving the option to play with all bots and calling it a campaign.

Misinform? I wasn't misinformed. I think you were just expecting more than what was said. I knew exactly what this game was going to be. An online based, objective, FPS with elements of parkour. I wanted this game because I was tired of FPS that put boxes in your way, or make it so you can't climb something you totally should be able to climb. Well that and parkour gunplay is awesome. I don't know how you see Xbox Arcade game out of this, this is a full game. Sure you can maybe beat it in 3 hours, just like you can beat Black Ops in 2 hours (EAT THAT). And I don't know where you're getting this whole 25% of the content that other FPS have? I could maybe see you say 50% because the single player and the multiplayer is the same game.

Really? We're compare it to Crysis 2? Does Crysis 2 let you do a slide tackle while shooting your SMG into the opposition? Does Crysis 2 let you do a wall climb to get that extra foot to reach the ledge to pull yourself up? does Crysis 2 let you do a wall run (Light body only)?

Who was misled? What false information?

Seriously, this game is pretty much what I expected and so far I am not at all disappointed. Every game is being hyped and the trick is to 'read between the lines' of all the hype to see what will be presented when the game is released. I understood the limitations of the customization early on, the use of bots to create a singleplayer/multiplayer hybrid and its implications for leveling, just as I understand the long term potential of the multiplayer.
Sure, I think the number of maps is a bit limited and am slightly disappointed with the texture pop-in and lag problems people are facing. At the same time, those issues are being addressed and I think Splash Damage made it clear enough that they have put part of their resources into post-launch support.

Some people think emphasising the good points while glossing over the bits that aren't possible to have perfect until you can test them "in the wild" (so to speak) is misleading.

I believe the correct term is "advertising" personally. That's what people do when they want you to buy their product - they talk about what their product is GOOD at.

And from what I've seen, the game lives up to all expectations I've had.

Should have done better research.

Or the very least gone to Voodoo Extreme every time they posted something about it.

The only thing I'm disappointed in is the AI being too stupid, and they kind cheat (I've had them snap turn towards me and head shot me while I'm running at them from behind), and that they use Peer-to-Peer hosting rather than dedicated servers (I think Peer-to-Peer is dumb and I believe it might be the cause of all of the lag).

It does actually make me laugh a little inside to see someone complain about getting more points for assisting your team compared to killing enemies.

Read a little of the background to the game and you'll understand that this is a team-oriented game; by healing, buffing and supplying your team mates you are able to vastly improve your chance of winning the match as your team becomes more powerful and more cohesive; more able to reach the current objective.

1) A boohoo...lag...get over yourself.

2) The opposition has no character customization.

3) Stop playing with the AI. They're stupid.

4) Poor baby...you get sick of the eight maps...get over yourself.

5) Yes, you get more points for TEAM WORK. That's the point.

6) Stop thinking two dimension and think three dimension, moron. Such as jumping over the gap, grabbing the edge, and pulling yourself on the other side in order to out flank the enemy. Also, PLAY A LIGHT. I've gotten to weird places.

7) I've found more than three ways into an area. You just think to linear.

Wow, congrats, you managed to make yourself look even more foolish than the OP.

Although I don't agree with all the OP's complaints, I do agree with a few.

Can someone please show me the advertising that made Brink sound like it was going to be any different to what it is?
Everything I read and watched made me think it looked a lot like Quake Wars with an interesting movement system. And that's pretty much what I got. Classes and objectives work the same as Quake Wars. I got 100% what I expected to get.
I'm not too sure where all this misinformation is. Could someone please provide me a link?

Watch the myriad of interview vids on youtube. And provide us with a link that shows this game was touted as being QW with just an interesting movement system.

1/ you havent posted you pc specs, so i cant comment on your fps issues or the pc version of the game in general. But the amount of server lag is quite unaccaptable (xbox 360) for me, the texture poin is a minor thing for me.

2/its has the largest customization in terms of fps games on the market, so i dont know what youre smoking boy, but ill have some.

3/ use voice chat and try to cummincate with your teammates if the teamwork is bad. you cant expect everyone to be psychic and read other peoples mind. As far as skill goes, it the same as other fps′s point and shoot.

4/jupp 8 maps is pretty low on content, but repetive? "modern" fps′s have like 8-12 maps (exculding post release map packs), so brink isnt more repetive in that regard. and we are getting free maps down the road.

5/jupp they want to promote teamwork, so medics heal, engins bugg and deploy mines, soldier hands out ammo etc etc, its funny you complained about lack of teamwork, but you dislike gameplay systems taht encourges it.

6/ what did you expect it to be? flying, wall hack? SMART system is a a button that simplifies movent through terrain, like wall jumping, vaulting, ledge grabbing all done with a press of a button. Its does what it was advertised, albeit not allways where you would think and its not 100% flawless in its exicution, but it does give a grate sense of moving

7/ level design is better then most other multiplayer fps′s. but i guess thats a personal oppinion
