No, I don't want fallout turning into a complete series with...

Novels, Movies, T.V. Shows, spin-off games pre-war, Or anything like that.

It'd ruin fallout for me and alot of people.. :sadvaultboy:

At first I really wanted Fallout novels... Then however World of Warcraft came out with a set of books... Then soon pivotal events are not shown in World of Warcraft because they are in a book they want you to buy. That made me sad, and made me rethink about wanting novels.

I would like to see books on the events that happen in any game that has already been released, and not currently recieving DLCs. It would finaly give us lore folks information as to how the game actually ends. I love all the different endings, but when Fallout 4 rolls around I don't want to be argueing about which faction won the war of the Dam...

I could also see books that take place before the events of Fallout. It could show us whats going on, on the other side of the planet also...

The only down side I see is that it could slip into what WoW's books have... just another way to get money out of people who want to know what the heck is going on.

It depends on who writes them. Judgeing by FO3 Beth has trouble writing a good fallout story. I also don't want people that know even less then them writing it. Its not like Beth has the time to do it, they make games not books. I would be happy with short comic books like the one that came with New Vegas collectors edition by Chris Avellone.

Fallout novels would be fine as long as the novels arent given license to change the events thus changing the story, read the halo novels they were fine till they released reach and had to rewrite the novel to fit the game story since they'd already release the novel and it was different to the game. So novels would be great as long as they stick to the storyline and novelists arent given free reign to have elves and gnomes appear with some lame excuse that they were transformed by the FEV, well you know what i mean anyways.

Well you can always read the Armageddon Rag newsletters from the Fallout Online game, some of the stories are really fun to read.

Still, doesn't tell you a damn about the supposedly upcoming mmorpg.

We can't talk about that on the forum. Mods might not like the links.

I would be interested in side stories that take place in the Wasteland -- so, in a way, published, "well written" fanfiction -- to flesh out a bit more what it's truly like to live there...what it smells like to walk past a Super Mutant camp, to live day to day in a depressed, oppressed place, etc.

Basically, if someone paid me to publish my fanfic, haha ;)

Yes, I would love some novels. I just like reading and there aren't that many post apocalyptic books out there they deal with nuclear warfare and the aftermath. It doesn't necessarily have to deal with any storyline, but if it did it would be nice if it was on track. Though I wouldn't really care that much if it was well written. And the people who don't want novels, don't have to read them. My view.

Its a bit ridiculous to say novels would ruin Fallout

There just isnt enough time and or resources in OUR lives to ever put all the content into Fallout games that we would ever wish to know about...They have the entire WORLD to write about...theres unlimited things to do.

Mass Effect books do this perfectly...While they are not related to the games what so ever...they provide a deeper view into the universe for those who want it, while making it non essential to enjoying the games. every single RPG genre should do this sort of thign.

I'd definately read books set in the Fallout universe. It would be a great way to expand on some of the more interesting NPC's from the games. Who wouldn't want to find out how Tenpenny got to America from England and set himself up in the tower? Could explain why Burke is so loyal too. Or bring in totaly new characters. Perhaps explore how other countries are faring. And to paraphrase Yttrium, for those of you who don't want books, don't try to ruin it for those of us that do, just don't read them.

Well, the Mass Effect books were written by Drew Karpyshyn, who is a person that works for Bioware since Baldur's Gate II, he's also the one that had a big influence in the creation of the Mass Effect Universe.

I think the only way to make good fallout novels would if one of the people who deeply participated in the Fallout games decided to start making novels.
That's why those Armageddon rags I posted above are the closet thing to a Fallout novel, they were written by Chris Taylor.

Only for events that have been reference too and will likely never have a game based around it. For example, there could be a book about the first siege of Hoover Damn and the becoming of the 'Burning man'. There could also be one based upon the formation of the BoS and Maxson and Mariposa. We know the basic story of these events, yet they could be expanded upon in more detail. So long as they stay true to the lore.

All depends on what the novel is about.
But I'd rather have a monthly comic which focuses on a story for at most 10 chapters then switches to another story for a couple of chapter and then another etc etc.
Which would then help increase the lore and give background to certain characters, factions, animals, cults and locations.

I would love Fallout novels, just as I've always wanted TES-novels. I've always been slightly envious of Star Wars fan who have tons of canon books they can read as well as games/movies/series.

Id like a Fallout novel but only if it was a) well written by someone who has a clue about the universe and B) written so that the main storyline of the novels does not interfere with the games.

Personally I'd prefer a Fallout game that was as text intensive as Planescape: Torment. Ive played the setting in my younger days as a pen and paper with an insane GM and PST was right up that ally. It got the "essence" of the setting. Something thats extremely hard to do in a morally ambigous setting such as Planescape. A game where I basically didn't have to resort to violence more than a handfull of times.

Bar the above Id like to see more fanfiction.

Not to shamelessly self-promote, but you do realize that this site has a fallout fan-fiction section with several novel length stories.

There's:

The Anamoly of Regahn, Queen of the Pitt, The Crusader, Of Your Shadows, and A Ghoul's Life in the Wasteland among others. :)

Fanon =/= Canon.
I want Fallout novels which expand on lore, true lore.
Fanon can be a good read but is in no way important what so ever to the real lore.
