I want to play in English and uncut. Have a German retail bo

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 2:25 pm

Hey guys,

i would really like to play this game in English and uncut. Problem is: I have a German retail box. Its an awesome game, but the crappy german localization and the fact that the violance is cut quite heavily spoils the fun.

So i want to know if anyone can do something about that / can give me a hint how to do something about that...

I dont want to buy another copy of the game and import it from Austria or the UK. I mean why cant I play the game like i want to just because my IP says i am in germany?
I would really like to see an option to get this game uncut via steam or whatever. As it is now, the best bet to an unflawed gaming experience would be to wait until the game is cracked and to illegaly leach it ... thats not what steam or bethesda wants, is it?

Sleeping

Edit:
After the game bugged out and refused to launch when setting the language to english yesterday, steam fixed the problem with disabling the language setting.
Is there any real reason to disable this option, which is clearly in the files? Heck, i even have more then 2 gigabyte on my pc that are just filled with the english voice files ...

So Steam/Bethesda, why disable language setting? Is it forbidden all of a sudden to speak english in germany? Are we going back 70 years all of a sudden?

Please, please rethink this stupid censorship ...

the game was already cracked before it was launched on steam, the installation was not a hassle as it is on stream

you cannot expect steam to circumvent german laws, they cannot do this - you can trick them while using an US account with a VPN and a US IP

Selbst schuld

Until I learn otherwise, I am of the opinion that Valve is the one keeping you German folk from using English (Valve = Steam).

I don't know that the "incomplete" reports I have seen in these cases have anything to do with no one else offering any kind of answer; I suspect that there are just too many complaints coming in for too few readers in residence. However, it can't hurt to cover all bets, so here is that part of it:

When a complete problem report, including the standard PC Gaming Computer hardware component summary, and a routine software environmental description is provided, along with full symptom details, then perhaps someone here will be able to offer a suggestion. Sorry to have nothing else for you now.

So, if you have the money - goto amazon.co.uk and buy the UK version off there - problem solved (I would think)

Hehe, i thought it would come down to this.

But nonetheless i think we, those of the community who have the cut version or ahve gone through the hassle of importing the game or proxying their ip, should still make our dissatisfaction clear.
Just saying "its your own fault" wont improve the situation one bit. Of course i will now just resort to cracks and fixes, but as a matter of fact i still think, the game itself should provide us with the means to do this.
Afterall anyone who wants to play the game in german still can just import the austrian version...

Either way: I can admit its my fault for being dumb and buying the game in germany, but the way this system works is still quite stupid, and i think something needs to be changed.

Ah, and Harakiri ... go and commit harakiri pls, because just stating that its dumb to buy any games in germany, although it is true, wont help the german gaming scene in any way :frog:

Sometimes hackers or just people who play cracked games release language packs, just the english files. There is an .esp for Fallout 3 that changes the game language from Russian to English so don't give up yet.
But really, you could sell the German one for 30 euro and buy the Amazon one for 28 and make profit even!

Indeed. Well, you can sell it, but it will be worthless to the person who buys it from you. I have made the mistake of buying a couple used games that needed Steam to activate. They are junk - can't do anything with them.

This is the world we live in today. :(

Seems like steam has now taken more drastic meassures: They disabled the option of changing the languag, atleast for the german version.
Now thats bug-fixing like it should be done ...

I would really like to play in english, so why cant i?

Thank your government (Bild/RTL/Pro7 and co.) for this problem. It has not much to do with Steam or Bethesda they have to censor the game for Germany and this makes it incompatible to the multilanguage setting.
I am an Austrian player with an UK version I bought here to play it in english and have no problems. One of the tiny things that worked with Steam.

You can't whine about German laws at your publisher. You can complain about Steam, since they don't offer uncut German versions. If you had bought a PEGI-Version from a distributor like Amazon, you would have the game German and uncut.

@sesom: you only mentioned business cooperations. They are not part of the German government. oO

Hehe, yeah i guess you are right about that.
Unfortunate for me :(

But you imported the Uk version? I thought the Austrian version was uncensored and not affected by this language preset [censored]?
Nah, anyway thanks for the reply and please pray a little for your neighbor country while playing this game

yeah, i know that its kinda useless. But if i can buy the pegi version in stores like amazon, isnt it contradicting itself?
Regardless: Now i ve bought the german version, registered it. Damage done, i admit my failure ... but isnt it dumb that i cant sell the game to get myself an import? that the PEGI versions cost nearly twice the amount of the "regular" fallout version? And what has this user done wrong:

"Like the others, I'm currently living in Germany for work, but I come from another country.

If I remember correctly - and I do - the "game censored and in german version" (or something like that) warning in the Steam Store wasn't here at the beginning of pre orders. I bought mine a mounth ago, thinking I'd end up with the english version without trouble. Two weeks after, on the same steam page, there was a warning, but I obviously couldn't know it'd be there.

Thus, is it legal, or even moral, from Steam / Bethesda to keep us from playing the version we paid / hoped for ? I'm no lawyer and I don't mean to be too "moral", but I'd answer no."

So, even though its a dumb topic, its a dumb law, and its a dumb situation, i would very well like steam or bethesda to give us atleast an option to redo what went wrong.

I know it svcks but when you are in a country as a foreign citizen, the visited country's laws apply to you. That's why you can get arrested in some middle-eastern countries for public kissing even though you are, say, an American citizen. That's how it works. Some countries allow you to smoke in public places, others will fine you. Either leave Germany or follow the rules there.

I mentioned them because they are the so called opinion leaders who have great influence with lobbying and propaganda via TV and print. In my opinion they are responsible for these strange laws not the common people or the politicians.

The Austrian version is uncensored and you can switch the languages. But I didn't want to download 2 additional GB. It was clear from the beginning that I want to buy this game in the original language. I can't play with a german speaking '?dland' it feels simply strange for me.

@sesom: Klar machen schaffen Medien Meinungen.

English version following, maybe.

Hi Wastelanders:

English:
You have to buy the Pegi or UK or US Version, they are all uncut and Multilanguage. You can get them at www.okaysoft.de or www.gameshop.at for example. You can also ask a friend outside of germany if he gifts you the game. The cut German version is only in german and cut. There are no non german languagefiles (speech, text, ect. included) For a matter of fact, even if you have the uncut mulitlanguage version steam will redownload the hole game if you switch the language, there is no on the fly switching the language like in other games (L4D2, Half-Life 2, ect.)

Greetings

Thanks for the encouragement so far <_<

So, how do i change the Language now, after i registered Fallout onto my steam account?
The last time i checked, steam doesnt allow multiple registration of one game onto one account.
And to "un-register" isnt possible either, is it?

So, whats left? Make a new steam acc, buy a new, imported, copy of the game, and register that copy onto the new acc?

If thats the way to go: No, sry. Thats dumb. I could understan the uncut, but the language of all things?
Clearly i am at fault for not realizing my mistake at the given time, but Steam/Bethasda is to blame for a total crap system.

no you are not: the release of the game in the preload phase was too ambiguos and with opposite information : hgerman low violence version only in german, but at the same time they are saying that the languages available are english, german, italian and so on. I have asked for a refund, but till now nobody answered

Think thats bad, I have the US version, and everything is in english.. except for some weird reason my game says "Mojave Odland" too. Nothing else is wrong, the rest is normal english.
