Just add a gore level slider. Everybody will be happy.

That'd make sense if the "gore" were just decals. But if you go all the way to spending lots of programming and animation time on free-form cuts & slashes, limb removal (in FO3, this took special modeling of the body & all the armors), appropriate ragdoll physics, etc..... doesn't seem like something you'd just have a toggle for.

This thread is for realistic gore. Not cheesy amounts. Too little is just as cheesy as too much.

Again, that's where the differing opinions comes into play. The stuff you're describing really seems to be cartoonish levels of unrealistic action movie excess. to me.

Yes, and everyone wants games to be more realistic.

That's not really true. Some number of people who've posted in the various "We need _______ for more realism!" threads have stated that they don't think pursuing realism for it's own sake is necessarily good. (Depends on the game, of course. )

-------

Personally (and I'm sure someone will say I'm being insulting), I find some of this "I want to see extreme gore" "I want to cut off limbs and see bleeding slashes" etc, stuff to be kind of disturbing. I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to see such disturbing & disgusting things. And the more "realistic" you make it, the less I want to see it. Seeing people mutilated, in pain, and suffering.... that's nothing I'd enjoy. And it really makes me wonder, to see people saying it would be good, or fun. I'm sorry if that offends anyone, but it's just the way I feel.

For those saying gore will not fit with the lvl1 versus lvl 50 making 300 slashes, it doesnt need to be that way. Show tiny cuts to show little damage is occurring. Wasn't that easy?

For those saying gore is stupid and would make the game unrealistic with bits of organs blowing off in everyy direction, go play Turok: Evolution. That is the gore you talk about, while I want REALISTIC gore. Your not likely to cut into someone's belly and see all the guts, more than likely you'll see a gash, blood, and if very lucky, muscles and fat. People don't have a gazillion gallons of blood, so obviously there won't be great fountains to rival the Bellagio.

For the gore I want:
Have the ability to cut through limbs, spray guts, and have exploding chunks of brain. Just make it so unbelievably hard to do so. You're not likely to cut off an arm on anyone (except tiny spiders and other arthrpods) with a dagger or even a claymore, but hitting the right angle with the right force will certainly do it. I want my foes to actually bleed. A particle effect emanating from the gash, leaving decals on the ground. Entry and exit hole when using arrows. I want the dang realistic stuff, not Turok: Evolution's level of blood and guts. It adds to many peeople's immersion, as it will be more realistic, and satisfying indeed. Maybe some people want to run around and give every random dunmer a glasgow smile.

i agree with you 90%. :hugs:

spitting out teeth would be weird. but for race spicific gore it would be awesome if the dremora race's insides turned to ash as you spill them

Really? And what have I said that seems cartoonish? If you think realistic sounds cartoonish then I think you need watch a cartoon or to.

I don't really like a lot of gore. I think some environmental gore would be okay, but nothing extreme or overly interactive. I'd rather not feel like I'm watching a snuff film while I'm playing a game.

Give the option to turn on gore or turn it off. That way, people who don't want it can turn it off and be happy and people who do want it can turn it on and be happy. Look at that, I just solved the whole issue! :) Now we just need Bethesda to implement it into the game.

The gore slider wouldnt be that hard. At 0, nothing. At 100, everything. At 25, particle effects and decals, at 50
Previous plus limb severing, 75 minor guts and stuff... If ragdoll effects are implemented for the Limbs, then it will be used when you have the slider up as far as necessary. Just determine the relative "level" of gore, and assign a value along he slider. Simple really.

We know that.

The debate is over Oblivion-style (some blood decals) vs. L4D/FO3/extreme/"realistic" style (severed everything, flying viscera, whoops - eyeball just flew by....)

The last two pages of this topic have been not so good in that there has been name calling and bickering and flaming. Thus this one is closed. You may did up the other topic on this and continue but don't make another until that one too is filled.
