I want a sit feature

Post » Fri Oct 07, 2011 8:18 pm

Wouldn't it be cool to just sit down on the grass in the pine forest, and look at the stars? Nearly all MMOs allow you to sit, I don't see why single player games don't do it. seems easy enough to implement.

MMOs are about being social, so sitting would make sense. Elder Scrolls is more about doing things.

We have been able to sit on furniture since Morrowind but I wouldn't mind being able to sit anywhere though how that would be accomplished is beyond me since Beth's engines use activators.

If it was in the game it would probably be a feature I would never use. I would think it would be quite difficult to implement especially when the character is sitting on slanted or bumpy textures.

I wouldn't really see the benefit in it anyways, unless there was something you could only do while sitting.

Oblivion had a nice mod that allowed you to put a small cushion anywhere, and it would act like a chair.

It wouldn't allow you to sit on the grass, but a nearby rock of the right height would work.

One difficulty might be the shortage of controls. I can't see them putting a whole "emote" menu option on a console controller button. (Plus, having to do it through menus would be pretty awkward).

Yeah, you can sit on chairs & benches.... but that's just "activating" the furniture object with the Use command. Not really something you can target at any random patch of ground.

Yeah, that would be one way to do it. Drop an object that you could then Use.

This.

But yeah, it'd be interesting to be able to sit in the grass or just lay down in it and look up at the sky.

It would be nice, but not something I'd prioritize. We can already sit on chairs and benches.

Kind of a useless feature in my opinion, I see no need for sitting in the middle of the forest doing nothing. It would be kinda neat if it was included, but very unlikely.

This is what mods are for. So people can customize the game to their own liking.

Since when do features introduced in MMOs have to be exclusive to MMOs?

A simple solution would be to have any downed log or stump in the forest be able to act as a seat. Wouldn't allow you to sit everywhere, but you could "pop a squat" in many places that way. Besides, in Fallout 3 and/or NV there were trees and stumps you could sit on.

Animation emotes via the console would be nice. There are a lot of people who use pose mods for taking screenshots of their characters and whatnot, and Im sure the devs have a similar tool that they use for some of their screens.

Though Id probably never use them myself, /shrug

Does sitting need to be in? To me it's quite a useless feature, I doubt that Bethesda would even think to add this in.

I would love this. I'm with the OP, I've wanted it since Morrowind. Does it really not bother any of you that you can't stop in the middle of a long journey and make a proper camp? Lay out a bedroll to rest, or sit next to a fire and cook?

I've wanted to do this since I started playing TES. I've always been a slow, close-to-real-time role player, and a long hike through the woods deserves a rest now and then. I've never been a fan of the fact that we can jog all the way across the province without stopping for so much as a drink.

So, little things like this matter to me, a lot. And for those of you searching for a way to implement it, I would propose just making it some sort of SHIFT+Jump. Sitting is more like jumping in that it is a brief character animation, then the camera POV just moves. That's all it needs.

I agree wholeheartedly.

No, that feature was introduced in Oblivion.

If you want to be in the forest looking up at the night sky, then stand there and look up. It might be nice if some campfires had rocks or stumps to sit on, but I don't need a chair activator underneath every blade of grass.

This^

I see we have the usual "it's a useless feature"; so is armor and weapons visuals since you only need the stats for them, but you lot would be the first to complain if they removed the visuals.
