I want taverns in Skyrim to become ALIVE!

Post » Sun Apr 10, 2011 7:20 pm

what i dont get is how you can say that this is the one thing lacking of A GAME THAT HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED, NOR OF WHICH ANY SUBSTANTIAL INFO HAS BEEN RELEASED.

Well if you would have continued reading the thread instead of freaking out about my post you would have seen that I already corrected myself. Either way I was speaking of past games, and what should be improved in Skyrim, though I accidentally typed "the game" instead of "the series".

Also, there was no substantial info released about Skyrim yet? Where have you been buddy?

The taverns in Morrowind and Oblivion was never really that exciting. I think this is something Bethesda should do something about. When I walk into a tavern, I want it to be alive, not just a few random boring NPC's sitting att a table talking about the weather. I want taverns to be a place where you can find all kinds of interesting peoples. Where you can talk to Mercenaries about battles and job offers. Where you can listen to drunken conversations, and sometimes pick up unique info. I want it to be music, drunken nords hitting on the waitress and getting denied and being kicked out by the owner. I want to see scary looking npc's sitting in dark corners and talk about criminal activities. If you walk into the wrong tavern(owned by evil factions or something) you have to be on guard to avoid trouble, or make trouble. Off couse this is not the case if you are a professional bar brawler ^^ But offcourse there should be nice and cozy taverns too, just make the place alive Bethesda :)

For the love of god YES.

This would be awesome. As a joke, I actually have a document containing 600 pick up lines. I'm sure some of them would be fit in the culture of Skyrim. There are thousands out there. There are enough out there that you would rarely ever hear the same one again.

PM me if you would like the word document, or I could just paste it in the PM. :D

I want to see the looks on people faces when i walk in, bloody and carrying two axes as i ask for my drink. I want the room to stop and gasp in awe of my imposing figure. Also a nice tavern wench saying "What'll it be" without skipping a beat. I want it to feel like my home away from home. They place I can go and relax while listening to the news of the day after I just slaughters hordes of goblins for the magical fork of truth, and all that fork does is sparkle opposite of where the light hits it. Damn piece of crap fork.... :banghead:

I'd like a Tavern I test my new AoE Fire spells, we silly mages are physically incapable for bar fights. :flamethrower:

I guess if I'm feeling generous I'd like the atmosphere of the tavern to feel lively. Hate to walk in to a tavern of mindless drones...that is basically asking for me to kill them, and when it comes to searching for bits of information on magical relics my patience is very limited indeed. I'd love to see how the tavern areas play out with the new conversation camera angle and Radiant Story, awesome neverending adventures await!

Not to say that I only want taverns to be lively, just want them to be as lively as the rest of the world. Which is to say, very, very, lively.

I still feel like you guys are missing the point. One person even argued that the game should NOT feel alive, but only taverns.... simply disgusting opinions.

This thread is pointless and losing steam fast. I'll say it again. The GAME needs to feel alive. Once the game feels alive, so will taverns. Because, they are part of the game, correct? Bethesda has all but confirmed that we will see more alive towns and interactions with NPC's. So the things you are asking for, have pretty much already been confirmed.

I honestly think you guys spend way to much time in taverns. Even if they felt like the most realistic place in the game, I still wouldnt spend much time there, other than to get my quest and GTF out of there. Seriously what is there to do? Get in a bar fight? RDR had this. It failed miserable. Drink? Many games have had this, and it gets old very quick. Watch other people dance and sing and drink? WTF? Does that really sound like fun? These are fun features that the first time you play through you say, oooh neat. After that, you dont even notice them.

I dont want anything to do with a tavern, not because I dont like them. Because this game isnt about taverns, its about exploring the wilderness and living the life I cant in real life. If I hung around in the tavern, I may as well shut the game off and go to the bar.

To make the taverns more realistic, you should get thrown out if you arent doing anything but hanging around like a creep.

The only disgusting thing on this thread is your attitude man, jesus chill!

Haha, I couldn't have said that any better myself. My image of taverns in a fantasy setting totally comes from a mix of Forgotten Realms books and even more so from the Prancing Pony in the Fellowship of the Ring.

Speaking of the Prancing Pony, another thing Taverns ought to be used for is to MEET someone inconspicuously, just like the Hobbits were scheduled to meet with Gandalf, and instead met with Aragorn. At some point in the main story, you should be given a letter to meet an important person in the dark corner of a tavern.

As for the people constantly saying "blah blah, screw taverns, make the game alive, blah blah," making the taverns more dynamic WILL make the game more alive. It will accomplish strengthening the overall CULTURE of the people of the game, it will make many quests more BELIEVABLE (if they're used for that), and it will make the people itself more believable.

Essentially, this argument you are all making amounts to this: "Screw graphics that make the game look real! Instead, they should just focus on everything to make the game better." As if improved graphics don't make the game better /facepalm. It would be like people arguing that if they improve graphics they won't be able to improve other areas as well. Likewise with fleshed out and revamped taverns, which have always been a STAPLE to the fantasy genre.

Drunks in taverns hitting on the waitress:

A side quest could be being a BOUNCER and dealing with a**holes who bother the waitresses. Or just a good opportunity for a fight/meeting a new character in the story.

....I know it's not the real topic, but every time I see this thread's title in the forum list, I get this picture in my head of taverns pulling themselves up off their foundations and stomping off across Skyrim. Alive.

yeah going back to Daggerfall the Taverns felt more alive, even ambient bar noises would help! From the trailer we can see a bard playing a 'lute?' so we can assume there will be at least tavern music playing! I would like them to extend this even further and maybe have some dancers or juggling acts to accompany the music, sticking to the TES lore of course :) With Daggerfall and Morrowind to an extent I actually would feel relief heading there for a drink, some entertainment and a good nights sleep after a long and dangerous journey, Oblivion not so much! Bar wenches should be included as a automatic, every warm blooded Nord needs a good bar wench to warm him up :D
