I want taverns in Skyrim to become ALIVE!

Daaaaaamn ! *bookmarks*

And since I'm lazy :
I think this is something Bethesda should do something about. When I walk into a tavern, I want it to be alive, not just a few random boring NPC's sitting att a table talking about the weather. I want taverns to be a place where you can find all kinds of interesting peoples. Where you can talk to Mercenaries about battles and job offers. Where you can listen to drunken conversations, and sometimes pick up unique info. I want it to be music, drunken nords hitting on the waitress and getting denied and being kicked out by the owner. I want to see scary looking npc's sitting in dark corners and talk about criminal activities. If you walk into the wrong tavern(owned by evil factions or something) you have to be on guard to avoid trouble, or make trouble. Off couse this is not the case if you are a professional bar brawler ^^ But offcourse there should be nice and cozy taverns too, just make the place alive Bethesda

... Better worded than I would have anyway.

Taverns and Inns are a MAJOR part of ES games. Bring them to life as much as possible! Add music, shady NPCs, drunks, fights, etc....

I was thinking, maybe for the more quiet taverns (still alive though) making a point out of having a large fireplace where people might gather up and share stories? (I'm such a svcker for coziness)

I agree on that , we need both types of taverns :) another cool thing(talking about fireplace) would have been random encounters in the wild, stumbling upon a camp with adventures and treasure hunters sitting around a fire talking.

You know, when I go to a bar or anything like that which would be similar to a tavern in TES, there's always at least half a dozen people standing on the outside smoking. That's when I think "Yes, this is a place with a liquor licence". :P

(Not implying they should implement that in the game though, it'd look kind of ridiculous. Realistic, but ridiculous.)

You're saying that there is a smoking ban in taverns in Tamriel? Talk about being ahead of their time! :P

I'd rather have towns in general be 'alive'.

Developing on the idea's that people inputted for bar fights, you can have at certain pubs in the cellar or if its big enough in the main room, pub fights where they bet on eachother and you could earn fame/infamy (if they keep that) and some coin. Drunken pub fights would be hilarious! We should be allowed to get drunk like in Red Dead Redemption and also have pub games like Blackjack or something simmiliar to five finger fillet. For thief/assassin/shady characters in general, you could say buy drinks for that rich noble, and take his coin whilst he's bladdered in a heap on the floor :)

Actually it doesn't even seem like they've invented smoking yet, despite having tobacco leaves in the game. It's weird, because if there's one thing we humans have been good at since the dawn of civilization, it's finding new ways to intoxicate ourselves.

Hopefully the new engine will be able to run a lot more NPCs on screen at the same time than in Oblivion, this would improve the tavern atmosphere A LOT! The more the merrier!

I'd actually like having generic NPCs in the game, at least out on the city streets and in taverns - it'd be so atmospheric, stepping into a dark tavern and pushing through crowds of strangers to find an informant for a quest.

Basically, we want Taverns to be like they are in every Fantasy novel but in virtually no videogame.

Initially I hated that idea, but now, having seen it work in Daggerfall and Fallout, I think it wouldn't be a bad idea.

Your standards are too low, my friend. Look at Assassin's Creed. Bethesda must do what Ubisoft did. Learn from the masters, Bethesda. Join the dark side. :starwars:

Skyrim should begin with your character being thrown out of a bar and face-first into the snow after a brawl. :hubbahubba:

Read that in Sean Connery's voice. Well done.

aproved
not enough rough humor in the game.

but to improve on this i think each race should have a choice of where they start based on the class they choose.
so if your a bard, or a warrior, or a barbarian, of orcish or nord decent than you start in the bar getting your ass kicked.

Then you come back later in the game, find the people who kicked your ass, and shove a claymore through their ribcages, right?

Well if it were a real tavern thats what they'll probably talk about 'the weather' or whatever news passed into town.

Patrons getting into smalls squabbles about how an old story went or how that one girl smacked that one guy the night before.

Regular stuff mostly.
