So, do we want the Morrowind Dunmer voice back?

Post » Tue Dec 21, 2010 1:42 pm

Only if the Dark Elves look like ripped psychopaths as they did in morrowind. Hearing that raspy voice on a poncy-looking dark elf would just look awkward.

I think the ruffian-looking dark elves from morrowind wouldn't have fit in too well with the idyllic world of cyrodil, but skyrim sounds a bit more harsh.

Well if you've played fallout 3, then you may have noticed that the male ghouls sound just like the dude who did the
dark elf voices in morrowind.. Im not sure if it even is the same voice actor, but they do sound pretty close to the same.

I say bring the Dunmer voice from Morrowind back! Both male and female! That would be awesome as long as they make sure to vary the voice actors a bit more, which they seem to do for Skyrim :foodndrink: I think that 3-4 actors per race would be perfect, if they can afford that, etc.

I was watching an Oblivion video and I noticed that the Dunmer voice from Morrowind was once used for the game. I'm not sure what the reason for removing it was, maybe the actor ripped up his throat.

Anyway, here's the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjbx6-KQoRg&feature=related at 0:48

Would you guys get annoyed with that, or do you think it's awesome?

We certainly do, and the red eyes, long ears and slender features!

That's kind of the point. I mean when you look at the lore as a whole, all of the races on Tamriel are pretty big [censored]s. It's part of what makes the series so endearing to me - but with Oblivion, there were no such fine distinctions, at least no appreciable ones. Everybody just seemed excessively happy and got along too well.

Yes, I absolutely love the female Dunmer voice in Morrowind. It sounded very intense and provided a superstitious and spiteful undertone for the average Dunmer woman. Some of my favourite voice-overs are:

"I curse you vampire. Away!"
"You will suffer greatly!"
"Now you die!"

The Oblivion female Dunmer voice, on the other hand, sounded like that of an immature girl.

The Dunmer in Morrowind sounded the way they did for a reason - they were choking on ash all the time. It's like being a chain smoker. It's not the same for Dunmer raised in other provinces.

The Oblivion male elf voice should be kept for Bosmers.

Wes Johnson needs to return, as well as the guy who did Nord/Orc/Argonian/Khajiit males. I'd actually be really sad if I didn't hear that awesome lizard voice again.

Redguard male is awesome. Female, not so much.

Other than that I don't particularly have a preference.

Which is funny, since the female Dunmer has same actress in both Morrowind and Oblivion.

The reason you likely hear a difference is because she also had to do the Altmer and Bosmer female voices too.. she had to be less Dunmer-like so the lines could still fit with the others (and vice versa).

Ah, but the big question is, will Lynda Carter be doing any of the voices this time?

Oh, and to answer the first question, yes. I loved the way they sounded like the voices of someone who had been inhaling volcanic dust for their whole lives.

+1

Oblivion's male elf voice just works with the annoyance that Bosmer typically give off. Wes Johnson did an exquisite job with the Imperial males and the Dremora. Jonathan Bryce just defines the male Argonian and Nord roles (though I miss the accent he had pre-Oblivion). Additionally, I'd be kinda sad if Elisabeth Noone doesn't come back for some female Argonian voices.

I don't care much for either of the Redguard VAs, though, but I understand Michael Mack has been a staple since.. Redguard, or whenever they started getting voiced. I wouldn't be upset if he returned.

Bretons are meant to be French aristocat type people.. not cockney lol.

Personally i hope my favourite race, the Dunmer are given a lot of attention, that race has been through so much [censored]. They don't even have a genuine homeland anymore, they deserve the old style dunmer type voice at least

They all sounded British to me. I say that a Cockney Breton accent would be pretty awesome.

Michael Wincott for Dunmer voice. He's the guy with the rough, gravelly voice. And he can actually have different tones in his voice, instead of monotone.

absoluteley, pitty it sounded bad in oblivion so that they scraqed it and gave him the elf voice

but aparently he did the realy bad voice acting in oblivion for some males (forgot if this was nords or imperials)

The voice actors name is Jeff Baker. He did most of the male voices in Oblivion, Nords, Imperials, Orcs etc.
He is good voice actor, but too much is too much.

Johnny Depp is great actor, but if he was in a movie that took itself seriously where he plays about half of the characters it would be too much.

The unfulfilling reason behind the voice was that the dark elves of Cyrodil didn't have the voice because they weren't breathing int he ash from Red Mountain all the time. Of course, all the other characters in MW spoke normally... Maybe the Nords will all have the gravel voice in Skyrim because they all have colds.

You are forgetting the fact that Morrowind wasn't the first game to feature Jeff Bakers raspy dunmer voice. Much farther from Red Mountain, in Hammerfell in the game Redguard the dunmer had that "Morrowind voice".

But yes, I hope to see the Dunmer voice from past games return.

Jeff Baker only did the voice of Haskill in Shivering Isle. He wasn't in the main game. Male Imperials were done by Wes Johnson, and male Nords/Orcs shared a voice and were done by Jonathan Bryce.

Here are my voice selections for the male races.

Bosmer should be acted by Morgan Freeman

Altmer by Morgan Freeman

Dark Elves by Morgan Freeman

Imperials by Morgan Freeman

Nords by Morgan Freeman

Bretons by Morgan Freeman

Redguards byMorgan Freeman

Orcs by Morgan Freeman

Argonians and Khajiits by Morgan Freeman

:P

FIXED.

With this setup game will be the most epic game ever made.

Not just the dunmer voice, but the things that were said..."Bothersome creature", and the likes. One of the best ways I've seen to bring you deeper to the feel of the game.

As long as TESV is as moddable as Oblivion... I personally guarantee, with "Diverse Voices" behind me ( ;) ), that if Bethesda doesn't make the Dunmer sound right then someone will try to improve it. Whether it's me again or someone else, and whether it's just a pitch-shift again or something better (I have some ideas I didn't get to try with DV... :D).

I understand that Dunmer outside of Morrowind were meant to be different - generally happier and friendlier - but the OB Dunmer voice was just unfitting. One of the things that characterized the Dunmer most were their cold, gravelly voices, and to give them the voice they were given in OB destroyed everything that was built in MW. I certainly couldn't imagine these Dunmer being from the place we grew to love in MW.

For the love of god, Bethesda, bring back the Dunmer's real voice.

Yes I understand their integration more into Imperial culture but they are their own people with their own voice and customs they should be treated as such also, even more so since alot of us TES fans played Morrowind and traveled Vvardenfell island and know how they are in their own land.
