So, do we want the Morrowind Dunmer voice back?

Post » Tue Dec 21, 2010 12:58 pm

I was watching an Oblivion video and I noticed that the Dunmer voice from Morrowind was once used for the game. I'm not sure what the reason for removing it was, maybe the actor ripped up his throat.

Anyway, here's the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjbx6-KQoRg&feature=related at 0:48

Would you guys get annoyed with that, or do you think it's awesome?

Well, in Morrowind, the Dunmer had their vocal chords scorched by the volcano on Vvardenfell. Dunmer from the mainland don't sound like that. That's how the locals knew you were an outlander even if you played as a Dunmer.

Yeah, I want the true dunmer voices back.
And I don't care about, "they are far from red mountain, no volcanic ash" arguement. Their voice is a racial trait, not a provincial one...

Yes, we do! It fitted the character so much better. The moment I heard Valen Dreth in Oblivion's starting dungeon... It fitted his character. But not the rest of them.

Somebody a while back suggested a scripted tavern sequence for TES V in which you find a group of eastern, raspy-voiced Dunmer picking on one of the Oblivion ones for how high his voice is.

I like that idea.

I remember someone saying a while back that it made sense for eastern Dunmer to have raspy voices because they lived in such close proximity to Red Mountain, which was constantly spewing ash. I've used that as my reasoning for it ever since. Though I think a voice that combined the two would be a bit more fitting. The OB voice was just a bit too different.

I preferred Morrowind's Dunmer voice, but I thought it kind of felt out of place in Oblivion when I saw that gameplay trailer, which is my best guess as to why it was changed. However, I'd rather they gave them a unique voice (maybe a voice that's deep, but less raspy than Morrowind's voice would work) rather than recycling the same voice as Wood Elves and High Elves (which DEFINITELY feels out of place).

From the few screens I've seen of Skyrim so far though, it seems that Morrowind's voice would fit in better with Skyrim's art style.

Also, bring back the Dunmer swearwords please. :whistling:

-Orc/Nord female was... eh. Didn't like her much. I must say that I feel like if I was a visitor to Skyrim and heard the tavern woman in the Game Informer pics speak to me in that voice, I'd be pretty weirded out.

You know what voives were the most annoying? Female Nords. Or at least I think it was them. Can't remember. That annoying nasaly drone. Blegh.

Lynda Carter, aka Wonder Woman. She's apparently married to one of the members of the Zenimax board of directors, so you can expect to keep hearing her dulcet tones (*snrk*) for as long as she can't find a better role.

Bretons are meant to be French aristocat type people.. not cockney lol.

Actually, depends on where in High Rock they're from, since it's basically medieval Europe. Wayrest region is more French, Daggerfall region more English, etc.

Our Dunmer voice should only come back if we are just as rough as we were in Morrowind (gaunt faces, tattoos, etc.) Watching the video in the original post, I didn't think the voice suited the character...

I'd like to see the Morrowind Dunmer (and Argonian and Khajiit) voice set return along other voices for the race.

The old Dunmer voice just sounded weird coming from the new Dunmer character model in Oblivion. I'd like the Dunmer to look more "ethnic" as they did in Morrowind (in fact, I'd like all the races to be more "ethnic" looking and diverse) as well as the old Dunmer voice.
