So, do we want the Morrowind Dunmer voice back?

Post » Tue Dec 21, 2010 11:25 am

No as that voice was intended to convey the hoarseness of the throat that had to deal with the winds and dust of Morrowind exclusively I always thought.

Actually, the AI was supposed to be like that. They had to pull the plug though after some problems arose and not enough time to fix 'em.

Yeah that makes sense, because if you watch all of those videos, they ended up still changing a lot after that.

I remember them saying something along the lines of "a farmer needed a rake and the only one nearby was at another farm. That character would go over to get the rake, the other farmer would attack him for stealing the rake, the guards would come to attack the farmers for attacking each other and chaos ensues."
Final Oblivion? Rakes for all!

well, that voice sounded more like he had laryngitis, but something along the lines of jiub's tone would be great. they actually used the female dunmer voice for all female elves in oblivion, was really weird to me.

Those changes were a quicker and simpler fix than spending another half a year on trying to get NPCs from murdering each other and robbing each other and getting killed by guards.

In Morrowind their voices were that way from the dust storms, right? I wouldn't expect any dark elves to talk that way anymore.

You know why the tradition Dunmer voice wasn't in Oblivion?
The dust from teh red mountain and all teh sand/dust storms coated their throats and gave them a hoarser sounding voice.

As Skyrim is taking Dunmer refugees from Morrowind however ... *Is hopeful*

maybe, but it would be good if they had a 'characteristically' deeper voice than other elves imo.

Oh god not this video. It makes me nervous for Skyrim.

it doesn't for me they made phenomenal strides in the AI, it just wasn't implemented as much and because the AI probably wont improve that much we will probably see a lot more of it, just look at Fallout Radient AI was used way more than it was in Oblivion

the voices were not completely baddass because of the ash from red mountain, their voices were baddass from some curse from azura that made all of the chimer (altmer look alikes) have red eyes, horrible ashlike skin and course throats. this was because of something after the war with the dwemer that i forgot

I liked Morrowind's raspy Dunmer voices, too, but wouldn't they not make sense in Skyrim? I was always under the impression that the Dunmer had raspy voices from all the ash and harsh climates of Vvardenfell. And yes, I know the Dunmer in Almalexia had raspy voices, too, but I attribute that more to Bethesda not wanting to get a new voice actor.

In any case, raspy or not, we need a new voice actor. Oblivion's Dunmer were terrible.

No, I don't want the Morrowind dunmer voice back.

Nor do I want the Oblivion elf voice back.

MW's sounded like they were all on the verge of hacking up a tobacco tar-laden lung.

OB's sounded... well, let's just say "flamboyant".

Something gravelly, like Bruce Boxleitner or Edward James Olmos, would suffice.

I think elves should sound almost like they are singing but not quite as that would get annoying soon, but light and lyrical

I think that's what they were going for in Oblivion. I'd rather they not try it again.

Uhhhh... I don't really see either of those guys as a Dunmer.

Assuming everything is voiced, I just want more voice actors in general, with better lines. And if that means having different accents and dialects, I'm all for it.

And I hope dragons sound like dragons, not people trying to sound like dragons.

I've only heard people trying to sound like dragons before, what do they really sound like?
