So, do we want the Morrowind Dunmer voice back?

Post » Tue Dec 21, 2010 1:24 am

Uhhhh... I don't really see either of those guys as a Dunmer.

The gravelly voice. I was using them as an example of such a voice.

I want a new, deep, and gravelly voice for Skyrim's male Dunmer, but I don't want them to be as gravelly as they were in Morrowind. On that note, I desperately want Oblivion's male Imperial voice to return.

I hate that vid.

I agree dunmer voices were MUCH better in Morrowind. But then I always found all voices in oblivion bad. They were practically all the same for all the races and face gen also made all races look the same... Hopefully theyll have this right. Dunno if theres pics of different races in the mag, I can't wait t'ill it hits the shelves in stores.

Oh god not this video. It makes me nervous for Skyrim.

Same.. this brings back bad memories, but ya, I'd love the dunmers to actually sound like dunmers again

STOP RIGHT THERE...

Friend

The minute I hear my Imperial character let out such a weak battle cry as my Dunmer Oblivion character does is the day I... I don't what I would do. I think I would cry. It's either an Imperial or Dunmer that I must play in any Elder Scrolls game. When one fails to be cool, I need the other to be my back up. What would I do without either of them? :cold: They had better get one right.

the voices were not completely baddass because of the ash from red mountain, their voices were baddass from some curse from azura that made all of the chimer (altmer look alikes) have red eyes, horrible ashlike skin and course throats. this was because of something after the war with the dwemer that i forgot

did you guys miss this?

Methinks that particular voice is uber cheesy. I like the idea of it, but not its execution.

I hope Skyrim can pull off using a deep voice for the dark elves, without them sounding silly.

i hope everyone has different voices, too... oblivion had WAY too many shared voices...

argonians and khajiit i think both shared one... what the hell?

they're completely different species, they shouldnt sound anything like each other!

also, i hope by time skyrim comes out, we dont see more than half the stuff mentioned in the GI article, being cut out... as well as half the stuff the show off in videos.

you know, like they did with oblivion.

really hope they're going to make up for that... oblivion was just missing so much, and i hated how the outfits and armor were all done... pauldrons and the cuirass should be seperate pieces! gloves should be seperate, etc...

eh, i just hope everything works out... voices and all.

My opinions are as follows.

For the males:
-Male Breton's gotta go, or at least put some enthusiasm into his voice. I'd like to hear male Bretons with Cockney accents. Shady Sam seemed less shady and more like a [censored] nature documentary narrator.
-I personally have no real problems with Male Dunmers' voices, but I think that if any other voices were to come into play, I'd enjoy having something a bit darker sounding. Dark Elves are supposed to be known for pessimism and a dark outlook, and maybe they should take a more morose tone of voice. I'd like to hear more roguish sounding ones, too. Dunmer threats don't sound all that intimidating in the Oblivion actor's voice, honestly.
-The Redguard Male sounds fine to me.
-Nord males and Orc males shouldn't sound the same. I'd sort of like Nords to have voices like the guys in this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN-no1Ka7yU
With the exception of Antonio Banderas, of course.
-Orc males have a booming voice, much like I'd expect. I don't really see anything wrong with em.
-If the Elf male actor was kept, I'd like to hear him used for Altmer only.
-Male Bosmer should have noticeably smaller voices, maybe like hobbits in LOTR.
-Imperial males have perfect voices, I think. Very haughty and authoritative.

As for the females:
-Elf female has to go. I think elf women should be a bit more demure and softspoken, with the exception of Dunmer women, who have a reputation of being really brash and promiscuous, but that's just my opinion. Maybe Altmer women could sound haughty and stuck-up, too.
-The Redguard female was really boring. I didn't like her much. I feel like Redguard women are supposed to be hardy and strong, which this actor's voice and delivery lacked.
-Orc/Nord female was... eh. Didn't like her much. I must say that I feel like if I was a visitor to Skyrim and heard the tavern woman in the Game Informer pics speak to me in that voice, I'd be pretty weirded out.
-The Breton woman was pretty good, though I'd like to see Cockney/lower-class accents in Breton women, too. I guess she sounded good as an Imperial.

I want a lot of dunmer male voice actors, with varying degrees of raspyness. :)

Nothing like doing dungeons with Wu-Tang playing.

I can see it now:
The Blades and Mythic Dawn going at it, with the Emperor chanting "WU-TANG CLAN AIN'T NOTHIN' TO [censored] WITH!"

As for Skyrim Dunmer, yeah, I think I'd like to hear a more gravely voice, but Morrowind's did get a bit silly after a while. I'd like to see a gruff, gravely voice, but not one so ridiculous as though they smoke 10 packs a day.

It should be similar to Morrowind their voices, but not as raspy.
Mainly because they aren't breathing in all that accursed ash.

Maybe a deep, quiet kind of voice.

Heh, something I hadn't noticed before: The NPC who greets the Dunmer in that video mentions him by name. I don't think 99% of the NPCs in Oblivion recognized who they were themselves, who they were talking to, or the relation between the two.

Heck, the NPCs won't recognize their relatives and will talk about mudcrabs with their love ones. ;)
(arg, you just edited your post... thus "ninjaing" my reply while I was typing it)

I really preferred Morrowind's Dark Elves' voice. But Oblivion's did not bother me too much as well. Should the voice acting cast be larger, allowing more than one voice actor per race, having two voice styles would be great.
