So, do we want the Morrowind Dunmer voice back?

Post » Tue Dec 21, 2010 4:21 am

I would love to have the Morrowind voices if possible, they really helped to make the Dunmer unique in that game. I'll be happy as long as they don't use the voices from Oblivion.

Bretons are meant to be French aristocat type people.. not cockney lol.

Personally i hope my favourite race, the Dunmer are given a lot of attention, that race has been through so much [censored]. They don't even have a genuine homeland anymore, they deserve the old style dunmer type voice at least

I'd prefer a whole new voice for the Dunmer, the Morrowind voice reminded me too much of the ghouls in Fallout and the Oblivion didn't have a specific Dunmer voice.

I loved Morrowind's raspy Dark Elf voices. Those, with greater variation among different Dunmer, would be perfect.

Mostly, I just hope they don't bring back whichever voice actor did most of the male elves in Oblivion; those voices turned a great number of NPCs into cringe-worthy comedy acts. On the other hand, I'd prefer text without any voice acting, so maybe I'm not a good judge.

They should get Tom Waits to do the Dunmer voices.

I just hope the guy who voiced them in Oblivion doesn't make a return. The Dunmer sounded badass in Morrowind, but in Oblivion they sounded way too upper class: "I don't care for your tone, you ruffian! I ought to give you a jolly good bashing!"

A little off-topic here: Do we know if the NPCs are going to be fully voiced like in Oblivion, or is it going to be Morrowind-style?

Here are my voice selections for the male races.

Bosmer should be acted by Matt Smith

Altmer by Colin Firth

Dark Elves by Toby Jones

Imperials by Patrick Warburton

Nords by Michael Gambon.

Bretons by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Redguards by Denzel Washington

Orcs by Christopher Lee

Argonians and Khajiits by Andy Serkis

They did confirm more voice actors than Oblivion. So surely we'll have our classic Dunmer voices back.

They already explained why they didn't sound like the Morrowind Dunmer in Oblivion.
I'd like them to stick with the lore.

That said different voice actors for the Dunmer are a must.

Somebody a while back suggested a scripted tavern sequence for TES V in which you find a group of eastern, raspy-voiced Dunmer picking on one of the Oblivion ones for how high his voice is.

YES! That would be hilarious. Honestly, I want both. Although any raspy Dunmer would have to be older. Since the game is set 200 years after Morrowind gets blown up and invaded. (The infernal city) If they do have multiple voices I hope we get to pick which of the voices are character uses.

And before anyone starts I only meant for when you are going "Hee yah!" "Die you swit!" etc while in combat. I don't want the PC to be fully voiced.

In Morrowind their voices were that way from the dust storms, right? I wouldn't expect any dark elves to talk that way anymore.

You know why the tradition Dunmer voice wasn't in Oblivion?
The dust from teh red mountain and all teh sand/dust storms coated their throats and gave them a hoarser sounding voice.

As Skyrim is taking Dunmer refugees from Morrowind however ... *Is hopeful*

I liked Morrowind's raspy Dunmer voices, too, but wouldn't they not make sense in Skyrim? I was always under the impression that the Dunmer had raspy voices from all the ash and harsh climates of Vvardenfell. And yes, I know the Dunmer in Almalexia had raspy voices, too, but I attribute that more to Bethesda not wanting to get a new voice actor.

In any case, raspy or not, we need a new voice actor. Oblivion's Dunmer were terrible.

Whoever made that one up ( I hope for the sake of the series it wasn't Bethesda ) needs to be sat down and quietly shouted at.

If they have raspy voices because of the ash clouds, then why did the female Dunmer have the same voice in Oblivion?

Do Bosmer have a cheerful lilt because they were all individually booted in the groin?

It's a video game, and the general consensus is that the old voice was better. :foodndrink:

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Morrowind only have one liners, and Oblivion full 'conversations'? The raspy voice might not be very pleasant to do for long dialogue sequences. :P

Sounds like he should voice act some Ghouls in the Fallout universe otherwise if his voice was less like a ghoul just a tad it would be a nice addition otherwise i'm not to keen

Indeed. In FO3's DLC "Point Lookout", Jeff Baker brings the 'ten packs a day' voice back for Desmond, and you can tell a few times that he's straining with that.

I personally don't want that, as I said earlier in the topic. It's gross-sounding. Fitting for a ghoul, but not for an entire race.

My opinions are:

Bretons: Give them a light, lyrical voice and a faint accent. I liked the voice in MW for female Bretons, but I don't know whom to suggest for the males.

Imperials: The Oblivion voice for male Imperials was fine, in my opinion - proud and alert without being too overbearing. I liked Morrowind's too though. LET'S SEE WHAT YOU'RE MADE OF!

Nords: Oh my god, this is where we need the biggest improvement. The males need to have a strong, badass accent like Morrowind's did, as opposed to sounding like Fred Flinstone with laryngitis. Can the extroverted Wonder Woman female voice altogether, and get something more like the voice actresses used in Beowulf.

Redguards: Always loved the voice actors for the Redguards. Michael Mack in particular has been doing them ever since Cyrus from, well, Redguard. Definitely keep.

Altmer: For the Altmer, I think the inflection of voice matters far more than the actual sound. The ones in Morrowind always had this vain, smarmy way of speaking that absolutely has to return.

Bosmer: Ugh, they all svck. I think that the male elf voice in Oblivion would fit quite nicely with some of them, however.

Dunmer: I'm a bit torn here. I do want a nice raspy voice for the males again, but after seeing how awkward it was in the Oblivion E3 demo I'm not sure how well it would work out. Jiub sounded pretty good, but personally I would be content with voices that are simply low and brooding. Regardless of the lore explanation, I've always felt the male Dunmer to possess a lot of machismo, and they would try to make their voice sound imposing just for the hell of it. For females, just use Morrowind's again. So hot.

Orcs: Like the Altmer, the Orcs' means of speaking should be the most prominent contrast amongst their voice actors. Do you remember the crude, slow, barbaric way they spoke in Morrowind? Something like that. No flowy well-spoken Orcs, please.

Don't know what to say about the beast races. I just hope they actually sound as if English (or rather, Tamrielic lolol) isn't their first language. They should have some very thick dialects.

The only voice actor from Oblivion that should be allowed back is Wes Johnson.

Yes. It may not even be necessary to find a VA who can manage to make his voice that raspy; should be possible to do it with some sound postprocessing effects (the Drell voices in Mass Effect 2 were made to sound that way using postprocessing, and I'd imagine some derivative of the postprocessing used there could make a Dunmeri-sounding voice).

I think the elvish voices need changing completely in my opinion. I sort of imagined the Bosmer to be fairly viscious little beings, with their totally black eyes, sharp teeth etc. their use of the bow and hunting. The voice they had in Oblivion, the same darned voice that all the blasted male elves had in Oblivion should definately be changed. I didn't mind the Altmer voice but would just like something new for Skyrim really. The subject of the thread, the Dunmer. Whether we get the raspy voice back or not I'm not to fussed. I liked the voice in Morrowind, but wouldn't mind if they went with a voice different all together as long as they don't use that aweful Oblivion voice (apologies to the voice actor but it's a matter of personal taste and to be honest I wasn't a fan, sorry mate).

How can we be sure that Bethesda will include Radiant AI now?

They wanted it for Oblivion but it didn't happen (because of time issues?)

This makes me worry. Maybe we will see the same AI in Skyrim as there were in oblivion. :cryvaultboy:
