I Want to Use FCOM but....

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 6:12 pm

Quite frankly, I'm a total noob at computers. I really just play games and thats where my expertice ends. I need a full, detailed walkthrough of how to install FCOM, and everything that will be nececary to play the game with this mod.

I guess it might be a bit out of your league, then. FCOM is not user-friendly, I'm told. Nor new player-friendly, nor plug-n-play style friendly. Heck, might as well just say it: It's quite evil.
It's one of those things that requires you to understand load orders and what mods do, and failing to do so can often result in you either crashing the game faster then you can open it, or having strange issues that defy what is known to happen.

If you can't understand half of the jargon used in FCOM installation guides, then you're likely to either go crazy trying to get it to work, or simply rage quit the mod. Or, if you somehow have a jolt of understanding, you might very well get the mod running flawlessly.
It's not something I would recommend for anyone who can't be bothered to ready huge walls of text, or those who can't read walls of text and get what is being said.

If you're as new to all this as you say, then my best advice is
  • Don't start with FCOM.
  • Start with OOO by itself. It is relatively easy to install and is the central component of FCOM, so you'll get a lot of what must have appealed to you about FCOM.
  • Also, with OOO only, you won't need to learn and install Wrye Bash right away, which can be daunting in its own right.

FCOM is acompilation of a number of big overhaul mods, Frans, Oblivion Warcry, Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, and Martigen's Monster Mod. Lots of further information if you search the forum.

And, to the OP, install OOO by itself to start with. A massive mod in its own right, and with very user friendly installation instructions.

Francesco's WarCry OOO and MMM.

FCOM is a series of plugins that allow the above major overhauls (as well as a few others) to play well together, along with the use of Wrye Bash's bashed patch. Without FCOM, you cannot successfully use the big overhauls together.

I followed the first time installation guide carefully and everything works and pretty much no CTD's, it's a pretty useful guide and you don't need much technical knowledge. So it is possible on your first go!

If your unable to understand the guidelines laid down in the http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1079991 then I suggest gaining a little more experience installing and troubleshooting mods before making the attempt.

Best advice I can give is, don't skip any part of the instructions. Because yeah, they do work. Follow them, to the letter, and it's unlikely you'll go wrong.

Plus, if you go about things that way, it's very easy for others to help you (just tell them what part of it you're up to, and they'll probably know what's up.) Otherwise, who knows what's really happened...

This website has the easiest FCOM install I've ever seen. I took me litterally 10 minutes to install it.
They also plan on releasing packs of mods that balance the game even more and go good with FCOM.

And it looks like they are uploading mods without asking for permission to use.. Cobl, WarCry, MMM, and much more Etc..

I understand the principle behind what they are doing

but I doubt they asked for permission once again for mods .

And they have 3 large download that is most likely Frans, OOO, MMM. Avoid has your never know what it could be in those files..

And well it will be outdated withing a few weeks anyways with New Cobl, MMM coming out..

How big is the file you installed? OOO should be about 400MB if I recall correctly.

If you have a smaller file than that, you might have an update package instead of a full install.

I actually wouldn't agree with start with OOO, mainly because MMM has too many nice things for me to miss out on.

Here's a simple way to do it:

1. Install Shivering Isles and DLCs
2. Install UOP, UOP fix, UOMP and USIP first (basicly all the unofficial patches)
3. Install the USIP MOBS version: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17621 (I just use USIP_MOBS_FCOM_1_4)
4. Install OOO 133 using the: OOO_133_Complete.7z which can be installed with Oblivion Mod Manager (by creating an OMOD) and then install the OOO_134_Beta_5 patch.
5. Install Franseco's, follow the FCOM Quick install guide: http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/fcominstall.html
6. Install Oblivion WarCry and Bob's Armory using that guide aswell. Fairly simple stuff.
7. Download the MMM OMOD installer: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24646
8. Follow the instructions on there to install MMM using Oblivion Mod Manager (by creating an OMOD).
9. Download the FCOM OMOD installer: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24647
10. Follow the instructions on there to install FCOM (make sure you get ufcom aswell).
11. Install Wrye Bash
12. Activate all your plugins.
13. Copy Bashed Patch, 0.esp from Mopy/Data into your Oblivion/Data folder.
14. Highlight all your plugins, right click -> Mark Mergable.
15. Right click on Bashed Patch and click Rebuilt Patch.
16. Tick Leveled lists, then click Ok.
17. Activate Bashed Patch.
18. Run BOSS (read through the log, take not of !! FCOM INSTALLATION ERRORS and remove the according esps).

Tada, FCOM installed!

With the OMOD installers for OOO, MMM and FCOM. It makes it easy. But make sure to follow that order exactly, or MMM will have issues.
BOSS makes it super easy these days, the rest is just simple use of Bashed Patch.
