I wanted to play oblivion

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 10:34 pm

So hey guys i got pretty tired of skyrim so i picked up oblivion goty off steam.

So, I'm running a pretty decent rig, I can max out games like Crysis, Skyrim, Assassins Creed ETC.

However, when I hit "default" under options, so it picks a video quality, it automatically sets mine to VERY LOW.

So I don't think anything of it and set it to ultra high and go in, and the menu and mouse is lagging like HELL

is there a fix?

Specs:

intel core i7 2.93GHZ 2934MHZ Quad Core
8GB RAM
HD Radeon 5700 series

Your question has been moved to the Hardware and Software forum. I would say that is the best place to start. Move up one level to the forum main menu and then do a search for words or phrases like 'Frame Rate', 'Slow' or something specific such as your operating system 'Windows 7' or your graphics board model.

The 5770 and other 57xx series cards were released after Oblivion and therefore the game autodetect does not recognize them BUT unfortunately there was an existing Nvidia FX57xx series card that had Shader problems that BETH added the Ultra Low setting for (disabling several of the shaders and other things) and since that was the only card with a 57xx series naming the games autodetect mistakes the ATI 57xx series for these old Nvidia cards and sets the game to Ultra low as a result ( and uses some Nvidia card settings that mess up the game for ATI cards) --- Does your Launcher have the presets for selecting the detail level ? If yes then just press the Ultra High setting which will reset the settings and then adjust your resolution etc. and launch the game and it will be fine -- If not you'll need a copy of the launcher that has the presets (since some of the things it shuts off do not have in game adjustments and the game can not be adjusted correctly without the preset ) -- http://www.4shared.com/file/0DM-Kr8s/oblivionlauncher.html- Just replace your launcher with this copy and use it to launch the game and select Ultra high and it will reset things properly.

Be sure to keep a copy of this launcher as each time you update the video card drivers the autodetect will run again and mess things up again !!!
